Fine Gael ran the worst campaign by far. Their mistakes took up most of the headlines. Defeat from jaws of victory. I did enjoy the election campaign but I feel people are disgusted with our politicians and political systems. We shall see what happens. Fun fun!

Was having a moment there, and thought - if FG don't do well and IF they went into opposition instead of coalescing as less than full partner with FF, then that would surely put it up to MM to form a Government with SF. Wouldn't it?

Multilevel regression with post-stratification - basically uses known factors in voting patterns to do a model off the polling data.
Has been more accurate (a lot more accurate, but going from 'basically guessing' to 'maybe 60%') in the UK than traditional polling at giving specific seats; not sure if that will work as much on STV where first preference isn't that useful in determining the last seats.
There was one UK election where Yougov got an exceptionally accurate MRP, but it wasn't that accurate this year.
Initially a cert for many but then the news was poor. She didn't canvass well in that she was perceived as being aloof and she made a few mistakes. The cancer services "mistake" might work in her favour though. Did well in the Galway Bay FM debate but she is a presenter and questions were easy. Bad TG4 poll but I think that was mainly done in the city.
If I were a betting man (and I am!), I would say she won't get a seat. If she does, then I give up. The people deserve what they get...and she will rarely be seen around Galway again.

In any other country a party that has been in Government for 14 years would get the boot but in little old Ireland you can’t be sure.

They were booted out last time. They sought a mandate and finished 3rd. You have FF to thank and again if the polls turn into actual votes.
