Do you remember any ?
Summer 2005. Still a great bop.
Charlotte Church - Crazy Chick
OK Go - Here It Goes Again. (Although this might have gained more notoriety for the video)
Orson - No Tomorrow
I have to say I like all three songs. I don't believe I heard Charlotte's song before and I'm not sure if I heard OK Go's one previously. I genuinely had forgotten Orson's song until playing it now!
If only there was a station that played these tunes all day every day ???
From 2006/2007 or so, Ross Copperman.
Another one from around 9/11.
Used to regularly hear this out around town but it took another decade before I found out the artist and title.
Backyard Dog "Baddest Ruffest" (2001)
With all these boyband documentaries suddenly all appearing at once across the Beeb and Paramount Plus this weekend, we can assume that Reel won’t get a mention.
Their singles rinsed by Larry Gogan.
Gadjo & Alexandra Prince "So Many Times" (2005)
became a hit in 2005 but was originally released in 2003.
A magnificent record from ‘The Welsh Dido’ - it says here…
I had completely memory holed that Jem song, bit of a classical influence, she also had one called 'Just a Ride' coming up on 20 years since those songs were released 😲
Another from the same era, I remember this getting played A LOT.
Suddenly I see is on the radio a lot still.
I'll take your word for it, haven't heard it in a long time.
Summer 2008
LOL, I bought the album.
That track got hammered on Kerrang right up til the end. Pretty much impossible to not see it once a weekend if not more of even casually having it on.
Fairly ubiquitous around late 2003.
Was originally written for Britney Spears to sing, as a clap back to Justin Timberlake's 'Cry me a River'.
Two from Jason Nevins that could not be more different.
This from 2003:
And this from the following year, used in a Coors Light ad:
I enjoyed both of those tunes. Both include clever sampling.
Played by Huey just now on 6Music!
Absolute classic 🙂
This one was great.
They also had 'You Know It' which was played a lot around Christmas 2005.
The next album got a small bit of traction, then they fell off the radar, Mik Pyro was doing folky country stuff on Tommy Tiernan's show earlier this year.
I think they disbanded around 2014 or so. Rejjie Snow's song "Charlie Brown" is basically an update of "The Steady Song".
Another from around Christmas 2005
Massive when it came out and you never hear it anymore.
The last time I heard it played on FM radio was about 9 or 10 years ago on Will Leahy's 2fm weekend teatime show which he hosted for a time In-between the axing of the more music drive and his move to Breakfast on RTE Gold
Every morning for what seemed like months during the early 2000s, this was on autorepeat at Pearse Station. Given the context it was hard to make out anything but the vocal which quickly outlived its welcome. Only heard it this evening for the first time since and could finally make out enough words to identify it.
