Had a small sample tonight of the Full Irish blended whiskey from Blackwater Distillery. Delighted with my purchase. Must have a larger drop over the weekend!
Do you know if it's sourced or their own distilate?
I think it's a mix of both. 90% that they distilled themselves and 10% a grain sourced elsewhere, if I remember correctly.
That ardfallen 10 is a revelation for me. I bought it last weekend after reading this comment, had 2 fingers tonight, just a taste, but wow. 40% but drinks stronger, which I like. Non Chill Filtered. I think it's the Moscatel finish that's blowing me away. Very early tasting but it reminds me of the greenspot wine finishes or even that first teeling brabazon.
If this is west cork I have to rethink my position on them big time. Also, maybe I'm just jumping the gun
Where is the ardfallen being sold? Also price??
Ardfallen 10yo is €30 in ALDI. A special in for the run up to Christmas. Comes in a giftbox.
Is it definitely West Cork?
The original/cheapest Ardfallen is West Cork. But the more recent €25 Triple Cask is Old Carrick Mill.
Dunno for sure. Just heard ardfallen was west cork on here. I'd be guessing west cork cause it's a blend so would be a big portion of grain and that it's 10 years old limits the distilleries
Just sitting down to have a proper taste of the ardfallen 10. The nose is the champion of it. Delicate, sweet, peach, floral honey, vanilla, butterscotch. Nothing bad. Tasting it you get loads of all that good stuff, starts light and soft, then there's a bit of a sting and there's a bit of a bitter aftertaste that reminds of what I didn't like about west cork (and makes me fairly certain this is west cork) but it's so light it's more an interesting note than off putting. I've never drank muscatel but I'd be guessing its doing a lot of lifting in the blend with a good grain whiskey, then it's the malt that was in bourbon that gives me the west cork note.
Still a big fan for 30 euro.
The Two Stacks/Dot imperial stout and whiskey taster pack.
I absolutely loved the whiskey. Felt really luscious and creamy - everso slightly smokey and very soft at 43%. The little can is gorgeous, too.
Wasn't crazy about the stout, though.
I'm a fan of the Two Stacks stuff, I picked up their First Cut on offer in ALDI for €30 while back.
I've a collection of 'drams in a can' I'm building up and I'll open for a side by side tasting.
There's supposed to be a Christmas dram in a can but shows out of stock.
If anyone sees it on shelves please shout!

I liked the stout, better than a lot I've had though not exceptional. The whiskey was creamy and the smoke not overpowering. I'd gone off smoky whiskey and sometimes even a hint of smoke will put me off but this one is not too bad. Not very clear though, it has a slight haze
The haziness is totally normal, not to worry.
I wonder if that why it was in a can?? 🤔
I didn't notice a haze and it wouldn't bother me anyway. Beer casked whisky can be problematic as regards haze, and this one isn't chill filtered.
Yeah, the first thing I thought was that I don't think Two Stacks chill-filter their whiskey, could be as simple as that.
The second thing is that it's been a cold few days, and we know haziness is amplified when the whiskey is cooled down… Whether that's by a splash of cold water, ice or being stored in a colder environment.
I read your comments on the whiskey, and they made me somewhat revisit my own. I said it was a normal triple distilled Irish whiskey, nothing remarkable. Maybe I was a bit harsh, I do think it was paired well with the beer.
Spare a brief thought for the PR team at Promixo Spirits before continuing on with your day.

Several retailers have announced they're taking it off the shelves and I can't see how they will turn it around.
Does his whiskey sell well in the States do you know? They'll probably continue the brand there if it does.
Somebody sat in a room with that scumbag and left with the idea that using him for PR was a good idea. I'm all out of sympathy.
The US doesn't have legal reporting restrictions like we do, so Proximo knew what happened in December 2018 when they bought the brand in 2021. I've heard that the target audience in the States is huge and doesn't care.
That aldi 2 stacks can whiskey is tasty, smells like a new zealand Sav blanc blasted up to 11
Does anyone else think that in recent light of the Conor McGregor decision and the backlash against his branded whiskey that the price of a bottle of 'Proper 12' is going to surge?
Could this be a better investment than Bitcoin? (I don't know what emojis to use here).
In the days pre MUP I was wondering if there would be a fire sale of whats on the shelves at giveaway prices. Not sure what happens de-listed stock like this.
They'll just sell it on in America, if they can't shift it here. Don't think it's ever been a big seller here, but it's huge in the US. Not sure where it sits now, but it was the second most sold Irish whiskey, after Jameson.
It has 6% of American market, tullamore dew is higher than it and then Jameson has the massive majority
Well that's what I read somewhere
Waterford Whisky are winding up the business. Sad to hear this.
Not sure the having 10,000 different products thing was really a great idea, to me they have no coherent product line or taste I can identify as "being Waterford"
The secret is now out.
What's the price?
I think I liked everything from waterford I drank and loved some of it. Business model was never conducive to maximum profit. Wonder who buys all the stock. All of it sloshed together, brought down to 40%, coloured and Banged out to recoup as much as possible
Had it this evening, the whiskey was nice but wasn't a fan of the stout (I love Lough Gill imperial stout) - thought it was watery and even though I enjoyed the whiskey, the stout took from it; looked brutally flat also
