I think it will be FF/FG again with god knows who. Hopefully a left wing party
It will be November 15th
The same surge for SF aint happening though, like last time. They will get approx 20% of the vote and will finish well behind FF in terms of overall TD's.
What is emerging here if these numbers happen is a watershed moment for FF - continue to enthrone a declining FG or strike out on their own and set a defining political identity for themselves.
Why does it matter. Do you actually think the Taoiseach makes decisions in isolation. The exact same things would have happened over the last few years regardless of which party had the title of leader.
What goodies will FG promise this week to improve their bad opinion poll result?
By that you mean, asking SF to form a government along with some other party?
Would you be happy with SF going in as a junior partner?
The idea that FF or FG can take no credit for any of the good things about Ireland (the jobs, economy, budget surplus, stable government, high quality of living, life expectancy, etc..) but yet remain on the hook for all and everything wrong with Ireland, takes a very special type of thinking
Have said it many times before, I want to see SF in a coalition first and that it all comes down to the programme for government. I want to see a proper coalition with the wants of the junior partner properly addressed and included. Compromise is inevitable even if they were equal partners.
I have zero fear of the above happens. Edit _ I should also say I don' think SF will go in if a PFG is wrong and they'd be right to do that, regardless of the jibes.
Why don't you calm yourself and let the poster answer the question which you also ignored.
FF bankrupted us in 2008 by the way. We are still suffering the consequences.
Not at all, because your question is flawed and dishonest.
FF and FG cannot take any credit for anything…. but will be blamed for all and sundry in return. That is your level of analysis and thinking of the situation, which comes across as a bit naive and immature. Surely you can see that?
Let me ask you, has FF and FG ever done good in your eyes?
Not alot of objectivity going on there! Jesus, if spoofing is a political crime, your mates in FF wrote the book on that over a century!
Hutch isn't even in the frame, the last seat in DC is between Hourigan, tDaly and possibly FF.
What are your and SF's red lines when negotiating a PFG?
There are big differences in policy in some key areas, like Ukraine, immigration, and housing for example.
FF and FG of today cannot take credit for things done before their time.
Irelands CT policy and the aggressive targeting of FDI did not begin with any of the current crops time in government.
Similarly SF could not lay claim to it as their success if they got into government and CT kept rising.
Hutch very much is in the frame.
Look into the recent past about this, from say the last 5-10 years and you will see it differently.
SF and others on the left were talking about 'Burning Bondholders' and going all Greece on us, remember that?
Remember Pearce Doherty marching hand in hand with Syriza? Never forget that SF are our version of UKIP.
If we went down that road, and the instability that would have created, we would not be in this position now.
How is the Q flawed? Do you know what the question is? Nice try at a tangent though.
We'll see...
Can i ask what it is what you find so appealing about PBP? Genuine question, because it's the likes of Paul Murphy who for me is only a charlatan and not to be taken seriously.
I'll give Joan Collins some credit is that i know she has done some good for her local area but besides that, what is it about them?
Why do you think Hutch is a good choice over PBP so?
I don't think either is a good choice. IF i had to pick one over the other, it would be Hutch.
I'd rather Neasa got in although it seems unlikely at this stage. 3 seats are pretty much wrapped up. Leaves 1
The numbers just arent there for SF, I cant see anything but the current government been returned. The only hope is FG refuse to be a minority coalition partner to FF.
Its looking like most constituencies are copping onto the need for an independent.
Which will make them less effective.
When there was only a few they could always negotiate "treats" for their own patch in return for supporting the government
So in a choice between somebody you disagree with politically and a LITERAL CRIMINAL you choose the criminal? Okay…
What is the underlying need for an independent though? Apart from getting local, parish-pump style goodies, I don't get it. When voting for a national parliament I simply do not understand why an indepdendent makes sense.
Harris tying himself in knots over McGahon on Claire Bryne
You preferring Hutch and Hutch being "very much in the frame" are two totally different things.
Even better if Daly & Hourigan won and Gannon lost out.
He is in the frame and "preferring" would be an incorrect term to use. It's hypothetical anyway, more only to make a point of my disdain for Daly.
Unless SF can somehow manage to get that second seat, it's between Daly/Hutch and the Indo
Yes it shouldn't make sense.
But they were useful as a bargaining chip to get some treats for your county.
But now with so many the concept has been watered down.
I think a lot of that was based on a very small number of high profile ones. Even then outside of Gregory who had quite tangible things to point to it's questionable how much some of them actually got for their constituencies.
That is what I am hearing on the ground as well.
