I think it will be FF/FG again with god knows who. Hopefully a left wing party
It will be November 15th
Didn't they do far better than the polls suggested last GE? That could happen? I think they would ruin the country but many don't
Yeah, they also made (Pat Leahy did anyway) of them being the first of the campaign and I suspect this will be the last one, so that might have been in their thinking too.
I’ve brought ID but never ever was asked for it. I always brought the polling card. The locals last year was the first time ever in over 20 years being able to vote.
Would have been up against the Indo's one and got less media coverage as a result.
Yeah but I don't think I have ever brought them to a polling station. I just show ID.
Okay. I am going to assume that ours arrive tomorrow. Normally here in cork we get them pretty quickly.
The minister for justice does not get involved in internal garda matters. It is not her remit. AGS are independent of political interference. All morale issues in AGS are purely down to garda management.
As for illegal immigrants, I feel you might be a bit mistaken there, asylum seekers and refugees are not illegal immigrants. I wouldn't suggest that you're labelling people as criminals when they are not.
Also you might try to learnt he difference in refugees and asylum seekers.
I was a tad surprised there wasn't a poll in the IT this weekend but it seems it's dropping 1st thing tomorrow morning.
Yep, middle of last week
Has anyone got polling cards yet ?
If you follow the chain of command you'll soon learn that the book stops with the Minister for Justice - our current minister is one of the most clueless, incompetent, hopeless way out of her dept minister we had for years. Even if FF FG return to power you can bet your house she (if elected) will not be in that department ever again. Harris came under severe pressure to have a mini cabinet re shuffle to get her out of Justice but he lacked the guts although he was well aware of her total incompetence.
Regarding illegal immigrants - it is a serious problem and will get worse if serious steps are not taken asap - Currently our only policy on illegal migrants is that we don't have one. Of course these illegals come in many guises, some destroy all their ID documents before turning up at Dublin airport's immigration desk and claim they are refugees, asylum seekers or whatever suits. Others cross from UK to the North and on to Dublin - the dogs in the street know that less than 5% are genuine refugees / asylum seekers yet all are here to stay with no way or means of doing even a background check.
The gormless Roderick O Gorman has a lot to answer - check out his video on youtube which is available in 13 different languages - he's basically inviting ''refugees'' from around the world to Ireland and guaranteeing them their own home within 4 months of arriving. You just could not make it up. But hopefully the greens will be consigned to history after next Friday's election.
Will you stop dreaming. I put our economic success solely down to the lower corp tax rate, FDI and hard working Irish people. FFG have just rode the wave and wasted the windfall.
The tax haven status was established decades ago. What did FFG do in the last 5 years to help? Name a single policy or legislation.
They have done the opposite. They have created the conditions for the FDI to leave ( no housing/rental, traffic chaos, electricity grid struggling, poor public services etc).
We should have 3 hospitals built by now for all the money and time spent on the Children's hospital.
Well said.
I don't believe that Sinn Fein are actually left wing or socialist but they never indicated at a national level that they were anti immigration.
That came from Sun newspaper reading, Celtic jersey wearing, "up da RA" despite not being able to pick out Belfast on a map type people spreading this Sinn Fein fantasy amongst their little bubbles.
It's totally at odds with their meme friendly "houses for all" youth vote which is why I don't vote Sinn Fein. They are essentially Brexit where totally disconnected groups have totally different ideas about what a Sinn Fein victory world be.
Very true.
Especially the anti immigration crowd, who for some bizarre reason thought SF would be anti asylum seekers, despite them being a left wing socialist party..
I'd say having one of the strongest economies in the world for the past 2 decades, full employment, and some of the best career opportunities on earth, coupled with a 25 billion budget surplus is not bad preparation.
SF, on the other hand, intend to blow the surplus on building houses the banks probably wont lend on, whilst chasing out FDI from the country, despite relying on the very same FDI revenue to make SF's sums add up!
All at a time when the very real risk of Trump's reshoring of IP and Corporation Taxes could batter our economy for decades to come.
We need safe, experienced hands & FDI friendly politics from here on out.
FFG are the only choice, in reality.
SF were always gonna find it hard once the spotlight was on them. The "wave" was based on various disparate groups pinning all their hopes and dreams on them including a load of stuff Sinn Fein never stood for.
As soon as they were in a position where they were being pestered to get of fences SF were fuked.
I wouldn't bet on FFG just yet. I also think the next election may not come with the same FDI tax windfall as we have now so the next government will have its hands full. There are dark clouds forming and FFG haven't prepared us very well for economic growth or shocks (poor housing supply, poor healthcare, poor grid, traffic gridlock, poor public transport, poor construction industry and inflation etc).
I think they just did an interview with the top 3 party leaders who could be Taoiseach
I think Aontu will do well in this GE
Of course we know it is FFG back in again in some form
SF really dropped the ball
Virgin are not holding a debate, sort of claiming poor mouth as the reason.
Or whatever they are called. Virgin Media folks.
TV3?
I saw Harris interviewed this morning on Trevor Philips show. He was interviewed by David Blevins. Are the 3 interviewed separately by DB?
That’s a random combination
Sky News/TodayFM
It’s Aine who should be moderating that debate on Tuesday night, is respectful yet assertive, unlike them show ponies O Callaghan and McCullagh
you know it’s going to be a bad election for FG when you even overhear people on public transport talking about the Harris video and FG being a shower of ****
Who is running tonights debate ?
He talked over him a number of times. Disgusting human. I thought Áine Lawlor did a good job but I’d have liked Her to push Harrigan more on the problems in Drogheda inhibiting the construction industry.
Very interesting thanks for posting. Will have a listen later on.
Looks like a good race for that 4th seat. Still think Donnelly will just about pinch it, but obviously Yates more qualified than I to comment!
Just starting to picture FF generally doing better than expected across the country. Suspect they’ll be strong beneficiaries of the multiple FG PR disasters.
