Ken has been weirdly reluctant to give Slot any credit. His view before the season was that Liverpool were screwed without Klopp and he doesn’t seem to want to accept that he has been wrong, at least to date. In fairness, most Liverpool fans thought the team would struggle so I dont think anyone would criticise Ken if he mended his hand at this stage - it certainly wasn’t as bad a take as saying last season that Newcastle would win the league after one game.
As for Fanning, he’s a professional curmudgeon whose schtick has worn out
Season ends in may not November.
Dion needs the audio equivalent of whatever the Brits did to the 1916 leaders with how badly his Slot takes have aged
Ken wasn’t far off him but Dion provided a lot of covering fire by never backing down
Cool story bro.
I must start a "podcasts I don't listen to" thread along with the "TV programmes I don't watch" and "hobbies I don't partake in", will be riveting.
I stopped listening to this a few years ago. I used to like it in parts but too much filler and drawn out discussion wore me out. I prefer podcasts that are more direct and get straight to the point.
Can't buy a win 🤣
If Ken is on holiday on Monday, I'll lose my ****.
City running out of petrol
Did they do a new one!?!?! I missed it. What day was it
What is 'the fairview'? was it the episode where it sounded like Ken was doing a scripted monologue?
I know very little about the Stakeknife story and Scappaticci. The first episode was very intriguing and thrilling. Are they going down the route of revealing where he was living when he left Northern Ireland and who was responsible for keeping his whereabouts unknown? I'm looking forward to the next episode anyway
Was great to hear the Fairview again this week, nearly forgot how funny they were.
The Hancox book on crowds got a fairly scathing review in the New Yorker this week
I’m sorry but anyone who knows their football knows Fenton is probably the best pure midfielder of the last thirty plus years. Size, skill and speed. Kilkenny is not in the same postcode of importance.
It’s hard to imagine a more important single player in the six-in-a-row team.
The opening episode of Cover is excellent. Mark's narration style is a small bit annoying but it's not as grating as I thought it would be
Some hype over Brian Fenton retiring... God help us if Ciarán Kilkenny hangs up his boots.
I find it hard to tell some of the soccer writers they have on apart, don't get the hate for Miguel either.
Racist against Dublin people
Which is fair enough really
I thought Miguel was great on that today, and his book sounds like a great read. I don't get the agenda against him
I haven't listened yet, but I fully intend to get Miguel's book over the next few weeks. Along with the Joe Canning and Richie Hogan ones.
His book "Two Brothers" about Bobby and Jack Charlton was excellent too
I mean it clearly is longer than the average episode, so
I think Miguel’s predictions about soccer are usually comically wrong but some in this thread would need to wind their neck in if they think soccer sport-washing doesn’t deserve its own book at a time when the Saudis are about to get the 2034 World Cup and City and their roster of lawyers are desperately trying to prevent their petro-club from being relegated to the National League and Jose becoming a Premier League winner with United. There is a total absurdity about this moment in time that separates it from everything that has came before it.
When I first saw what today's episode was about, I was thinking "hard skip". But I decided I'd give the first few mins a listen and ended up listening to about 10 mins of the interview with Miguel, and then I just couldn't take any more. As was said above, I just don't get who (apart from football bores maybe) would be interested in it.
Then I just saw his post claiming it was an "extended" episode of Second Captains to preview his book. Which seems a bit of a stretch to me.
Books that don’t have audiobook versions don’t exist to me
Thankfully Miguel’s does so I may spend a free Audible credit on it
Jonathan Wilson's books are excellent. Inverting the Pyramid and Angels with Dirty Faces are two of the best football books around. Behind the Curtain is a little outdated now but it's still a great read. Some of them are a little obscure particularly The Names Heard Long Ago but they're excellent reads and I'd definitely recommend them.
Ah, to be fair to Jonathan he did write Inverting The Pyramid - which is one of the most important and influential books about football ever.
He was on a phone in a gym and not in the studio as usual ffs. The first thing you can hear him saying is telling Paddy to do a long warm up, some people really want to find shadows in every corner.
I don’t know if you’ve heard but Miguel has a book coming out
I really don't know who would be interested in reading a book like Miguel's. Just seems so incredibly dull. Jonathon Wilson's books always sound like a cure for insomnia too. Did people actually go out and buy them for themselves, or is it generally Christmas gifts for someone who likes football?
Pass the prozac - its a super special Miguel pod today
