Monday in that weather too. And they're not the most uplifting of acts. Vicar St very ambitious for them.

Ibibio Sound Machine in Whelans last Saturday was immense. 8 people on the Whelans stage and a sweaty energetic crowd lapping it all up. Great atmosphere throughout and you could see ISM were really enjoying themselves too. I'm only familiar with last 2 albums and I think they played a fair bit from rest of their back catalogue. Would definitely go see them again

Circle row A is right at the front. Stalls are the gods
Was in Circle Row B for Steven Wilson, cracking view of the stage. Only thing more cracking was my knees after being squashed in for the duration
Great view of the stage but you cant see the standing crowd. Lacks atmos.
The stalls is downstairs seating which are generally the best seats. If it's a standing gig, that's where the standing area is.
The circle is the balcony. The front few rows are very good. Row A is front row of the balcony so you'll have a great seat.
The upper circle is the gods.
Apologies, the stalls are seats on ground. I haven't been at a gig where the standing section is seated in years.
the stalls in olympia are atrocious and only fit for children going to see a panto. Any adult will suffer cramps/dead legs in them.
They're better than they used to be. Once they reconfigured the floor and got rid of the central aisle, there's more leg room. The Circle is the real problem. Depending on what seat you get, the curve of the row may mean you literally cannot fit.
That's just not true. I've been to plenty of seated gigs recently and they've been fine. There a couple of dodgy rows in the circle (think C and D are the worst) that are bad but the seating in the Stalls is absolutely fine these days (since they refurbed many years ago).
The fancy looking boxes at the side in The Olympia - are they available to buy generally or are they a guest list only thing?
Generally a guest list only but also used by The Olympia to re-seat people.
Case in point I was at a comedy gig in Row C of the circle and my legs literally couldn't fit without my knees pressing up against the chairs in front (and I'm only 5'9). Asked staff if there were any free seats and they moved me into the box.
The caveat is that the boxes were empty. Probably wouldn't have been moved there if it had been a more popular show.
Funny, I just checked after Idles and yeah, theyre for artist and sponsor guests.
Pals went on Wed night, said they were sensational, in great form too and doing the Mariah Carey Xmas song amngst other covers. You enjoy it?
I was in a box for a play years ago, the view is fantastic, they're right over the stage.
There was a Sinead O'Connor, Cranberries, Mariah Carey medley which was great.
Loved it. In the Gods because I had my 15 year old with me but we had a blast. They get a lot of grief, really not sure why. They were brilliant. And getting better as they go.
I think that currently they're as good as it gets. Seen them three times at festivals and each set excellent. Indoors must be even better, especially with a longer set and a partisan crowd. Wish I could have gone during the week, but I'll live vicariously through you and others @Stillill42.
Saw her doing Edith Piaf Christmas 22 (? ) in the Gate .

Thought so too until she started talking and kept talking. Her poor band just standing there looking round themselves while she wittered on about shite.
When she did sing she was really good but then you knew she was going to start talking again when she finished the song. Escaped during the intermission.
Been to Interpol, Nick Cave, Peter Hook and Idles in the last 2 weeks.
Interpol were note perfect as always, and their Antics album proved itself to be the classic we all know it to be.
On Nick Cave's new album he sounds excited and inspired, the show was a quasi-religious experience.
Peter Hook was a revelation, covering so many genres: pop rock (Monaco's What do you Want from Me), 80s disco/pop (most New Order material), club dance (Blue Monday), indie rock (Love will Tear Us Apart), doom/gothic minimalist musique concrete (most Joy Division material). All really well played, and Hook kinda sounds like Bernard now.
Idles was my second time seeing them this year, as they also supported LCD at Malahide. They play with astonishing levels of energy, their singer manages to be very shouty and dangerous looking but a lovely charismatic bloke at the same time. A 23-song set left us soaked, bruised, exhausted and happy.
Really looking forward to Fontaines in 2 weeks. Should be a banger, their new record is like the Joshua Tree but way better.

Not a gig as such but good to see it back.
Aren't there usually a couple of up and coming bands also playing at this event? Some good ones too from what I recall but names escape me.
