I'll arbitrarily throw in Rob Beckett playing the Olympia on the 26th September 2025 which went on sale today.
€65 when TM fee is added in. €75 for basement jaxx including TM fee
Seems a mad price for Mary Wallopers for that size venue
Outdoor tents are mad expensive to operate, don’t see it selling quickly
Even so is price not spread out over the gigs they have there? Maybe not the best act for there given price and frequency they gig

yeah when it is spread out across 5 or 7 shows erecting the tent, operating it etc incurs a high cost and means at least €10 or €15 price higher than a show in a building

€39.50 at Galway Big Top, likely to be €43 with fees as minimal for the Arts Fest. If they're €65 with fees at Fairview there shouldn't be a disparity of circa €22 from west to east coast, though this could be partially accounted for if they've 3/4 support acts. There'll only be 1/2 in Galway.

The Arts Fest owns the tent which also helps reduce the fee. The clear point though is that they're not gouging when they could.

and the arts festival gets millions in governments grants/sponsors through arts council, failte ireland etc. the arts council grant every year is nearly a million. So it’s not a like for like comparison when one venue has a ton of sponsorships/grants versus a commercial operation.
The Arts festival, as a two week programme across dozens of galleries, lecture halls, music venues etc., gets significant funding, but this funding doesn't subsidise the Big Top events. The Big Top events are all expected to generate cash to cross subsidise more artsy, less popular elements of the programme.
As Seathrun66 pointed out above, they already own the tent, so that gives them a bit of an advantage over events that have to rent a tent. But it's open to any event or venue to seek beer company sponsorship, and the GIAF has the same staffing and other overhead costs as other events, so it still seems like remarkably good value.

Galway’s Arts Festival sponsorship and grant money is split across hundreds of events. The GIAF promoter has assured me that they get sod all for music simply because it’s profitable. The cash instead goes on street theatre, parades, acrobats in Eyre Square, instillations and exhibitions, all of which are free. Many feature artistic troupes from Canada, France, Croatia, etc. That’s a hell of a lot of expense.
Fairview fits 8,000 people. The Big Top in Galway fits 3,500. The band will charge the same fee for both. Thus Galway should be charging a hell of a lot more than Dublin. Instead it’s circa €22 extra in the capital.
If both events sell out then tickets in Galway will net €150,500 and Dublin €520,000. Explain again how there’s no gouging by MCD.
