I traded my 2021 ID3 for a Cupra Born in 2023 and got a a trade in value of almost 33k. So depreciation was 4k in 2 years or less than 10%.

Very true. EVS are on a steep development curve meaning that pricing will continue to be unpredictable. Also EU regulations demand an increasing ratio of EVs to ICE sold with big fines for manufacturers who don't comply - I think this in particular is continuing to drive EV prices lower. For the record an equivalent ICE vehicle to the Born would be a fast high specced automatic golf which costs over 45k new. Could be wrong but when you compare with ICE pricing I can't see the Born getting any cheaper again in the future.

I don’t follow. I told you what I paid, that’s not disproven. Some people lost lots on BEVs during a period because of price reductions and a cooling of sentiment. It’s unlikely people buying new or second hand BEVs now will get hammered as bad, and I’d suspect something like an EQE would be an decent buy.
I also looked at changing my 232 Camry last week for a pre reg 242 ES 300h f sport and they wanted 30k with it. No thanks to that.
Both the rav4 and Audi are modest dull cars for ordinary people. Bentleys or G wagens they are not. Audi costs more, is a bit more “premium” has a nicer interior, rav has a ic engine and probably will live longer; you pay you money and take your choice.

To suggest a car that starts retail at 90 odd k new is a modest car for ordinary people is a bit weird, to suggest that a new rav 4 is that is a bit of a stretch, to suggest they are similar cars is a bit silly as well, i doubt anyone cross shops them. Last bit of learning for you today, the Etron and the Bentley Bentayga are both built on the MLB evo platform, id wager they have a lot more in common than you think.
Thanks for your kind comments but it really is a combination of luck and the fact that I am in a financial position that I don't have to rely on getting high interest loans to finance my car purchases. I am an OAP and hence for me it's carpe diem rather than wait for x years until the market settles and reveals itself. (delayed gratification if you will). I have a big interest in cars but definitely not a petrol head - very interested in EVs/energy efficiency/battery technical advances etc. etc
Doing my homework before going to the dealer I figured that my 2 Yr old Born was valued at around 25k/26k. In reality I didn't negotiate hard because I knew the new fully loaded (3k extras) Born was coming in at a keen price- 36.5k. I got 23k for mine without haggling- in hindsight I may have left 1k on the table. I also got a 3yr HP loan to largely cover the capital balance due at 0%.
Where did you find that price for your Born? Just by looking at Donedeal?
I lost track of the Audi nomenclature years ago, but if you google q5 with a electric motor I’d say you will find it. Babywagon, SUV, Crossover, all names for appliances that convey children safely.
The etron is a grand car no doubt, I never said it wasn’t. The range might put some off, but horses for courses. I stand by my view that it’s a very modest car… it’s 20k more than a RAV new and is the same size, and puts it in the same category in my book. I just wouldn’t be sitting back and thinking I’m doing well with either a RAV or etron!

Yes. It's tricky because you're trying to figure a ballpark average figure based on dealer asking prices. Also you have to price it for January when it will be 2 yrs old. Current 231 Borns are about 29k asking; a lot with low mileage. I would be thinking that in January asking prices will drop to 27k/28k and allowing for dealer margins etc reflecting real values at 25k/26k. For reference MY 22 cars which are technically 2 years old are averaging 26k asking.
