Is this in conflict with the Kingston Park plans? Looks like the same area.
And it's closed down now. They had a closing down Sale the other week …
And Elftown opens Friday the 22nd of November!
Yes it was a Joyce’s for years but sale to Tesco was blocked with there already being a Tesco in Oranmore. Big renovations going on in the store at the minute so will be interesting to see how it turns out.
It's now Fay's Supervalu
The Competition Authority ruled that Tesco could take over all the Joyce's supermarkets except the one in Oranmore as there was already a Tesco there and it would have created a monopoly situation if they operated both.
Did that not become a Joyces, or has it reverted back since they sold all the other stores to Tesco
Nestor's went into receivership. Joyces bought the supermarkets from the receiver.
Nestors were the franchise holders that sold to Joyces who sold to Tesco
It wasn't they who withdrew as such. Supervalu operate most of their stores on a franchise basis. The franchisee for the city stores also owned the property and opted to, or needed to, sell up. They were up for sale and I assume Joyce's offered the best price.
Ah lads, sorry I forgot about ye. This used to be the city forum. I meant the city where most of them were bought out by Joyce's and are now Tescos. Like I said, I often go to the one in Barna.
There's one in Claregalway and another in Lackagh..
And there's only room for one supermarket in the growing moycullen?
And moycullen.... Won't be there much longer though..lidl or Aldi being built
There’s a SuperValu in Oranmore.
I wonder why SuperValu pulled out of Galway. Did the Joyce's make them an offer they couldn't refuse? They're often the main choice in rural towns but just checking Limerick/Cork/Dublin they have plenty of them so that kills me theory. I often take a spin out to Barna which seems like the best offie near Knocknacarra. That said, the Salthill Centra had a decent selection as well.
SuperValu aren't known for competing though
No SuperValu in Galway since Joyce's took over years ago. No real harm having competition in the area either.

Forbait Snamh Thiar has purchased a two-acre site opposite the Lidl & Aldi stores in Knocknacarra, to build a Regional Aquatic Centre — the land is owned by Musgraves, which is reportedly planning to build a Supervalu supermarket on an adjoining site.
So that WDR section will be the west equivalent of the Headford Road retail strip, along with a bus terminus. Wonderful, wonderful
Excellent.
Nope, loads of great local traders at Tiny Traders. Far superior to the Xmas Market.
Pile of smaller shìte?
Galway's real market continues beside St Nicholas, every weekend.
Pile of sh1te.
In better news Tiny Traders will be opening in the former Next unit in Edward Square from around the 6th December until Xmas Eve.
Christmas market opening today apparently.

You are right. Has been moved. I for one welcome this. Makes sense to me as location over Cappagh or Leisureland. far more people living in the area and its on the Primary BusConnects Galway Corridor
A new shop on Abbeygate street opened recently - plumes.ie . For the stoner in your life
I thought that was for retail only
SuperValu is owner of the 14 acres of land. Part of that site was previously the subject of a proposal for a €30m shopping complex which was turned down by planners – the ‘Kingston Cross’ scheme was to be anchored by Tesco and sports retail giant Decathlon. The Musgrave Group is expected to draw up plans for a major development on the site.
All will be revealed on Mon 11th Nov"
The open evening to showcase the plans will be held in the Clybaun hotel on Monday 11th November from 6pm to 9pm.
"
Don't believe it will have the Swimming Pool though? I thought that was been earmarked for Cappagh Park?
