I think it will be FF/FG again with god knows who. Hopefully a left wing party
It will be November 15th
All of them, if SF were rounding up the Jews to put them in concentration camps, Francie would be telling us how aligned it was to their core principles. That is just the way he thinks.
Back on topic, it is not a surprise but it is shocking to see Sinn Fein pivot to an anti-immigration stance.
I haven't said they haven't changed. There isn't a political party in the country that hasn't tweaked and altered policy in line with public opinion.
Politicians can take steps to speed up court cases by increasing the number of judges, prison places etc.
Law and order is a matter for the government. This includes convictions.
How much move away from previous policies are you going to hand-wave away as if the party position hasn't changed?
I assumed the same as you being from the area but Paddy Power has Donnelly favourite to take the 4th seat at c.60% chance.
Timmins & Matthew’s the only ones who can challenge him it seems. Timmins (FG) seen as twice as likely Matthew’s. Simon Harris is going to have a crazy amount of transfers to give…but then PP will know that and price it in!
If that is a move to the 'far-right' I now realise how desperate you people are tbh.
That's a positive, i'd vote for the Greens myself over that fella. Fingers crossed the good people of Wicklow does the nation a favour!
I'm local to the area and I can assure you he is loathed!!
I'd say Harris, Whitmore and Brady are bankers.
Last seat would between Donnelly and Matthews (Green)
I'd favour Matthews, and think most others would too.
Donnelly will suffer most from any anti-incumbent vote or abstention I think
The real question is, if there's a housing crash coming, I'm not for a moment suggesting that there is, do we want a completely inexperienced party in power that will destroy the economy, increase emigration and cause huge unemployment through naive misguided policies or one that has a track record of managing us through the Covid crisis and the Ukraine-led economic crisis?
No brainer Red, cut them fcukers on the welfare, have it easy they do 🤣
The real question is, if there's a housing crash coming, I'm not for a moment suggesting that there is, do we want a party in power that will keep the country running by raising taxes from the high income earners or one that will try to save money by taxing the minimum wagers, cutting welfare, raiding pensions, and cutting the public workforce?
Unfortunately as much as i'd love him to miss out, i'm not sure FG will take 2 seats there in that cons. Although , i don't know how popular or unpopular he is amongst that area
Always expected. Wonder will @FrancieBrady move his vote elsewhere as promised.
We are in an election situation. It doesn't matter whether a fall in house prices affects me in reality or not, what matters if whether falling house prices influences votes. I think it does, others think it will be put that aside out of concern for future generations.
Gavan Reilly reporting that Stephen Donnelly is hoping to continue as Health Minister "if FF returns to government"
A little presumptious in my opinion, as Stephen Donnelly is unlikely to return as a TD, irrespective of whether or not FF return to government.
Ye , it doesn't make sense Breezy. These can be built in and close to our major Cities that would allow people to walk to work or a relatively short commute
Do you not know all Irish people hate apartments and are only happy in houses with 2 gardens.
Or so we are told by people who bought their property 40 years when houses were cheap and traffic non existent.
What specifically has changed in the 1-2 years that make it feasible now please?
I know you won't insult our intelligence by referring to the new planning laws passed only last month that will take years to impact supply. Some specific answers would be great thanks.
Nice Francie, Nice. Quite the philosophical anecdote that hasn't crossed my path before
Planning permission has been granted for the guts of 250k houses since 2016, significantly outpacing commencements. And every year there are less houses built than there are active planning permissions granted.
Speeding up planning decisions is simply going to add to the ever increasing backlog in the pipeline.
It is unlikely to suddenly unleash significant extra development.
Sinn Fein going far right. What a surprise.

Of course they did. But if you were still able to afford your home (or if your mortgage was already paid off) - did it really affect you?
Homeowners will largely vote for the governing parties, so as a result the governing parties will look after them (same reason that OAPs are looked after to a higher degree than other sectors).
I'm just pointing out that if policies are retained that ensure/help house prices stay high, this helps people who own homes, it does nothing to help people who want to buy a home. I think that FF & FG recognise this, but also recognise that they get a large chunk of their votes from the people who own homes, so they are okay with this. Is this all for the greater good? Probably not.
That govt got a hammering because of the way they reacted to the 2008 housing crash, not because if the crash itself. Raising taxes and cutting welfare on the same day banks were to give bonuses to their top dogs was not a good look.
The effects of the public sector recruitment freeze are still being felt today
When you only have eyes for one dancer you will no doubt miss the rest of the ballet going on around them.
Amazing the number of so-called seasoned observers who don't understand the difference between manifestos and programmes for government.
Somehow they don't understand that FF, FG and the Greens have different priorities which will be reflected in different manifestos and disagreements during the campaign. It is like they expected to be arguing against a monolith.
Quite bizarre. I suppose they are the same cohort who last time out thought topping the poll was of some differential importance.
He came across well actually
On the PFG he was trying to distance himself from? Whatever you say.
"Any change to regulatory environment will see housing completions drop off a cliff"
<Proceeds to ignore FFG making the biggest change to planning process in this country in over a decade>

He came across well actually,I can see why you'd be angry though, best thing to do imo if politicians get under your skin like that is to think of the difference between manifesto’s and programme’s for government, the former is just a pitch isn’t it
Did you listen to Harris last night trying to blame 'other parties' for government failures and outlining how he'd 'pirouette'? Exceptionalism hard at work again.
The Land development Agency was another FFG failure.
