Feels like the right time to start a new thread for next year's gigs.
John Mayer playing the 3Arena on 29 March 2024.
When in the band his voice was a mess so they either stopped him or he didn't volunteer. The voice-coaching was circa 6/7 years. In the early days of the Light it was a mess and someone or other pushed him to sort it out. Apparently very successfully and he sounds good from the live footage I've seen.
If better than NO live then that's very good indeed. I've seen them be messy but Brixton two decades ago, EP sets and Trinity 2019 were all excellent. Particularly the last, as good as I've ever seen them.
Anyone going to Nick Cave tonight is in for an absolute treat. But you probably knew that already.
Anyone looking for tickets to the sold out Fionn Regan gig in Cleeres Kilkenny tomorrow night (14.11). There's 2 just gone up on their (Cleeres) site. I got caught for work tomorrow night, so am offloading them.
New Order at Trinity was a nice gig. I remember they played a lot of Joy Division tunes too.
Going to Hooky's Dublin gig on Friday myself.
8pm start: New Order Substance in full then the Joy Division compilation of the same name, which for me, was the first thing I owned by either band so should be an enjoyable night and good value at 30 songs.
Thanks Seathrún.
Yes I am particularly looking forward to the JD stuff.
I love New Order and would reckon his dislike of their stuff is because of continuing bad feelings between them all .
I hope it doesn't affect it on the night because it is 50% of the show !
Looking forward to it
Will report back 😁.
Thought Bernards voice was a bit dodgy on some songs at the last gig but thought " 3 arena echoeyness " ?
Loved the Trinity gig 22, sorry 2019, so relaxed .
We went to Limerick to see him two years ago and the programme for the night was a short New Order set followed by the two Joy Division studio albums in full, and an encore of Joy Division non-album tracks (gotta have some logical basis for slotting in Love Will Tear Us Apart 😉). Looking at the setlists for that tour at the time he was playing a completely different 6-7 song New Order set each night and pulled from a list of 20 or so songs. He didn't seem unhappy performing them that night so I hope it will be the same this weekend. Looking forward to Saturday night in Galway.
First time seeing him ...with the Light .Had to persuade my very loyal New Order buddy that it would be worth it but if he plays 15 out of JD songs I will be happy .
If he only plays 6 / 7 NO I am in big trouble !
But I see from recent setlists it's 50 / 50 and finishing with Love will tear us apart ..
Enjoy Galway .
Going to Vampire Weekend in a couple of weeks. Anyone seen them lately, dont really know what to expect
Also going. Saw them in trinity 2019 were really enjoyable
Have a look at last few gigs here..
Thanks, they seem to do a heap of covers
Looks to be an encore of covers which looks like good fun.
yeah could be great
Could one of the RDS halls be adapted into a ~5k venue? There used to be a lot of indoor gigs there. Wasn't there some massive clubbing event there earlier this year?
I always thought if they did some work on simmonscourt you'd have at least a 5k venue, not too far from the city centre. Went to paramore and razorlight back in 07/08/09????
Was at Interpol in the main hall in 2007.
Saw Interpol there in 2007 and was at them the other night. How time flies but good music never dies
Saw them at Trinity - excellent live but was probably worst concert experience I've ever had. Putrid crowd at it. It put me off picking up tickets for upcoming show but still very tempted to pick up a resale
Agree crowd was poor except for two or three songs but thought they were very good
I would 100% agree. I actually thought they were very good indeed. Enjoyed the gig.
Been checking the setlists, consistently 30 tracks, 15 by each band. Alas no Decades nor New Dawn Fades but pretty much everything else you'd want to hear is there. Enjoy.
Apologies, I mightn't have communicated it properly. I don't know Hook's feelings on playing the NO stuff, I was talking about his band. After a gig last year they told my pal that they didn't enjoy it but knew it was expected of them and were fully aware that they wouldn't be selling the tickets without the NO material. Enjoy the gig.
I have a ticket for Peter Hook but am in hospital so if anyone wants one, please let me know - i am too late to put it back onto the TM site
Hope you get sorted and get well soon J
Was anyone at Hook last night? Looking at set list, seems like show would be quite long with numbersl of songs covered.
I'm in severe need of a gig fix and trying to see what I can attend before Xmas. Limited to Galway and Castlebar options, so maybe do Hooky tonight
Considering the timeframe and circumstances, that's a fairly solid replacement.
Gama Bomb announced as main support for Alien Ant Farm
I hope you have your dates wrong - playing the Olympia tonight.
Doh! Thanks, we'll that's out the window so!
