Yep. What @ILikeBoats said Quilty has very little material he can work with compared to all the other evening shows.
what a short sighted way to think - there are literally 1000s of well known soundtrack songs to choose from films, tv series, musicals, theatre shows and advertisements !!
I listened to a small bit of the Paul Mescal interview, wasnt as awful as i thought it would be. I wonder did he enjoy doing it, he does seem fairly sound
Going to give this new Saturday night show a listen. I like Barry Dunne, use to listen to him a good bit on 98FM around the time Dermot & Dave were on there. The tunes won't be as good as Claire Beck's for my taste, but it might be a bit of fun.
How dumb was it to change the name of the classic 9 at 11 to "yesterday FM" , the classic 9 at 11 was apart of the stations heritage but yesterday FM sounds like a name you'd use in a comedy sketch.
It's also recorded. Again, a bit depressing.
Wasn’t Claire Beck recorded too?
The new Thu 90s show is yeah. Her old Saturday Soundsystem show from 9 to 12 on Saturday nights was live.
Ian Dempsey playing Christmas songs this morning
Expect any year now Today FM to go 100% xmas music from mid November until December 26th, it's already the norm on Bauer stations around Europe
Another reason to switch off TodayFM.
Didn't they go 100% Christmas songs last year for the 2 weeks beforehand?
That's not the same as November though.
True
Switched on Dave Moore this morning. First song: Springsteen's 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town'. 13th November, ffs! Immediately switched to Nova.
Until Christmas is over, Today FM will now be switched on for Dec Pierce and the occasional Last Word. And a very rare Claire Beck of a Sunday morning, but that's my lie-in day.
they played christmas songs last week to plug their christmas fm online station. they started this last year first week of november as well, **** any tradition its all about advertising the online product. I see that as anticipated the 10pm shows are all VT. So there is no live presentation from 10pm to 6am on a national radio station. (the news has been going off air at 10pm for years)
Christmas FM is an entirely unrelated station to Today FM, which, as well as running online for much of the year, has had a few live broadcasts online already and will be on FM from the end of November on its annual temporary license. I believe the station you are referring to is GoLoud Christmas Hits, which is an online station under the Bauer Media umbrella.
yes, that's why i said "their" christmas FM online station. A figuuure of speech, caller.
Raging, they've removed all Claire Beck's Saturday Soundsystem from the listen back. I was throwing them on a bit since the news it was finishing.
God I'll miss that show. Anyone know of any similar shows on Irish or World radio?
Best of luck to Clodagh Lawlor on her new show, keep her country :)
can i also say that it is poor form by Bauer in a small country to have a christmas station that clashes with the only one we have which is a charity one. I dont recall it being hosted by any presenters last year but I'm probably wrong.
BBC Radio 1 follows a similar pattern of most programming between 10pm to 5am all being pre-recorded shows. Makes sense, as they are easily repeatable, and are listenable at any time of the day if catching up over the following days (no clock / time mentions, no news updates). Sometimes easier listening to these type of specialist music shows without mundane shout-outs as well.
Heard "Driving Home for Christmas" about 20 minutes ago. Maybe it's me, but it just seems too early for Christmas songs on the radio. Even up to a few years ago, they tended to hold off until the last week of November at least.
But if they've been told to promote the online station, I guess that's it.
Not that I plan to listen to the Christmas station, but I assume you need a Go Live account for that? I used to enjoy the online 90s station, but haven't bothered since they required an account (yes, I know I could just use a burner account but I just can't be bothered.)
Any station playing Xmas songs in middle of November would be a definite turn off for me.
But then again, TodayFM is more or less that already.
Since when is Breffni Clack an newsreader on Today Fm ? I thought it was pretty anoraky when i heard her reading the 11am news this morning, because she was a DJ there 20/25 years ago, hosting shows such as Friday night 80s and Late Night Love.
She's there over a month at least. I think she was/is on sister channel Newstalk too.
I remember her presenting a show called Late Night Love. I think that was the name of it anyway.
I have heard her on various radio stations over the last few years reading news. East Coast would have been the most recent. I'm sure I heard her on Q102 at some point.
That advert for Louise Cantillon's show. Holy good jaysus.
Is that the one with the guy saying he dreams about her? "Hey Louise, ticéad más é do thoil é" - it actually makes my stomach turn.
I was hoping to like Louise. I like the cupla focal but her show is wishy washy at best.
