The Hyundai INSTER sub-compact EV with 355km range will be officially released later this month. It was teased today and based on the CASPER ICE model available in some markets. Thoughts?
I'd say it'll be 3.9% because of the lower purchase price. Wonder when the dealers are expecting demo models.
I'm guessing 1.9% like their other BEVs.
Itll be very interesting to see what sort of PCP deals are available on this. Should be very affordable with a small deposit.
"Clever move, and Renault must be quite annoyed by now."
Why?
It looks much better in the metal.
Its s great little car and for the price they will be charging for it it should fly out of the showrooms.
That's the 49kWh version for €19,995.
Edit: See it's down as "from €19,995" in the description.
It is an interesting model alright, looks a similar shape, and practicality, as the incoming Renault 4 EV.
The larger 49 kWh battery will be closer to around 24k, once delivery and metallic are added, and around 21k for the smaller 42kWh battery version, with metallic. Still seems like good value though
Dealer has some pricing up, but fails to mention metallic paint cost.

Thought Hyundai had brought back the 8 track for a second…
My 1st look at the Inster from Hyundai Ireland and with a starting price of €18,995, things in the EV space are going to get very interesting in 2025!
Why dors it have to look so crap?
Don't forget the Ioniq 5 when it launched here had a very attractive initial price as a market disrupter, before moving the price upwards steadily. A low launch price for the Inster will move new business to the brand without damaging existing Hyundai customers.
Clever move, and Renault must be quite annoyed by now.
The 40kWh Leaf is €23,495. Range of 270km. So the Inster wins there anyway. Even in the base spec.
Would this be better value than a new Leaf?
The Leaf has been around a bit now and while still a fine EV, might be getting a bit 'old'.
You're quite correct. That is strange.
Edit: Read the asterisked small print:
Still cheaper than the UK though.
Saw it yesterday at the motor show. It looked grand but I thought the doors felt very light and the rear door handle felt cheap. The sound of closing the door made me think the door panels were as thick as the aluminium on a coke can. Mind you it's great value at sub 20k. They will sell bucket loads.
how is this so cheap in Ireland? It’s £24k in UK and more expensive than Citroen eC3.
I'll be just glad if reduces autobesity that's really dominated in recent years.
We had thought about taking the EV plunge but I'm glad we didn't as something like this is more practical for our needs than most of the recent stuff.
Depending on the volumes Ireland gets, but this could push down 2nd hand values as well in and around that price range for other EV's.
It' not just that it's such a good price (and the difference between the base spec and the top spec is so low), it's that it's a well established EV brand that's got a very good reputation for quality and reliability and puts its money where its mouth is with excellent warranties. Really interested to see where this goes.
If they stay true to that price, these will be everywhere before long.
I'm in the market for a EV soon. This seems very well priced, for a brand EV car.
Definitely. The Spring felt cheap inside the Inster felt like a bigger car inside. A much nicer place to be.
That's a brilliant price for the Inster. If that is correct, the base Inster is only 500 quid more than the 65 bhp Dacia Spring and the Inster will be a far superior car.
That's a great price for a new EV with that range.
Feck, I thought it'd be about 25/26K. I'll need to bring it for a test drive and see if I like it, was convinced I'd drive my original Ioniq until it stopped but now I might sell that and trade up.
yes
The Inster is starting from €19K here?
Saw it at the motor show today, very impressed with the interior space, bigger than the i3. Some scratchy plastics but specification was very good. Entry price is 18995 and top spec is 21995. delivery and metallic paint would be extra. We’ll definitely give it a spin when they hit the showrooms.
Yes.
what like the WLTP?
Yes they have indeed.
