Spotted this on public building in Galway City.
For dimension, the letters are about an inch in height.
Anyone know or guess?
Anyone else feeling free to post stuff.
Stonemason's initials and the year ?
I reckon not.
Building well predates 1926.
Ok so.
No craic or guessers here.
It's carved at left side of external entrance at train station.
Never spotted it!. Nice catch.
Love it, because it tells a story.
Just what story.....
Hard granite, so took time.
Were they porters who stood in that corner?
Easy one, where's this?
Lough Atalia.
What's the history there do ya know?
Supposed to be a healing well though given the state of the water there the miracle would be if you survived exposure to it
So, anyone guess where this waist-level window opening is and what it's original purpose was?
Faces a main road in Galway city/suburbs.
Dublin Rd, Rosedale School. Something to do with TB and isolation.
Yip.
Window for coffins from old TB hospital to slide directly out into horse drawn hearse.
Im enjoying this, might learn a bit!
There is also an old Mile stone in that area. I think there was once a plaque but was removed when the place was lanscaped. It was also Galway's smallest Townland "Cloch Milé" I think thes kind of things are significant and should be marked.
Dublin Time…

From back when the Dublin was on a different time zone and the train schedules were Dublin Time, handy reference on your way to the train station.
Nice nugget
Coffins? What is your source for that?
I'm enjoying this so i wanted to contribute.
Grounds of NUIG ?
Yes!
It's a sculpture of the Royal Coat of Arms, which was originally placed on the pediment of Galway Courthouse. Considered an "anti-national emblem" following independence, it was removed and stored behind the Quad for safekeeping in 1936.
88yrs and still safe and has its own Car parking space.

They opened the wooden Gate wooden door onto Lower Newcastle Road recently so it's a bit more accessible to the General public these days.
