Another starter question please - if I want to get a few bits (thinking cattle scales, creep feeder & calving gate and maybe a few other small bits) is it that I have to apply to TAMS first, then wait for approval (which is often 2 months after the scheme closes), then buy the stuff if I get approval and then submit paperwork for payment? The whole thing I'd imagine so if it works that way could take the bones of a year or a bit less?

Also, when it reopens (which I think is next week) how long does it stay open for usually?

You need professinal certs attached to the electrician portion of the claim which I imagine can only come after the job is completed

I’m building one myself at the moment, my guess is once you have receipts etc. to get you over the €90k threshold (I’m assuming you’ll reach this) you should be able to draw-down. If you’re not reaching the €90k threshold then pay the electrician and get a receipt from him. My guess is that you need a new connection and will be waiting 2 months for the ESB when your Sparkie sends in his cert, that’s the situation I’m in at the moment so if I’m not right with my assumptions above I’d be delighted to be corrected.

Hi, just starting a TAMS grant aided shed. Just wondering if the electrical work for lighting has to be finished before drawing down the grant. There is no reference to electrical work in the application.

Fair dues for that response. Suppose it depends on width of crush or if there's obstacles that am animal can put its foot on and throw it off weight. A perfect width to match scales should eliminate awkward standing animals I expect

I have an O'Neill scales the last 8 years with ridges on the side and up the middle and no issues with it. Once the animal has all 4 feet on it it'll weigh them, positioning in the crush is the most important part. For a lively animal you might have to be quick enough about reading the weight but I've never not been able to get a weight for one. It all just depends on how much you'll use it and how much the information you get from the scales will benefit you, when you decide that its just a decision on whether its worth 1000 or 10000 to weigh your animals.

Affter reading the scale thread on here, I now don't know.

Simple, cheap but quality would do me well but then reading it telling us be better going for a crate version, I'm. Lost.

Amy scale is better than nothing atm so I'll see over the next week or 2, especially if grant can still be received months later.

With items like that if it’s something you were going to buy anyway regardless of the grant then once you apply for the grant you can buy it the next day. If you do get grant approval a few months later you can claim the money back. The risk is if for some reason they turn you down for the grant it’s tough s**t and you get nothing back but as I said if it’s something you were going to buy anyway then it makes no difference.

There is a min application amount of i think about 2k. So what you do is apply for your crate, and another expensive item say a mobile crush to get you over the threshold figure, then if your approved just buy the crate. That's how my advisor has explained it to me so hopefully he is correct

I went back and this was the reply I got from TAMS inspector:

"Anywhere that a tractor/machine may travel over a slat requires a Heavy-Duty slat and /or where slat/slabs/manhole covers are outside of the building. Most suppliers only supply slats that are rated HD anyway"

I'd say you're fine. Seems to be the heavy duty distinction that's key, not the slat/slab

the agitation point will still be located externally, the only difference would be it will be a slat with a manhole they’d install instead of the normal external agitation point i.e. the full pre-cast slab & manhole.

Yes but it's the 6' post not the eco post. Strainers qualify as well. Fencing grand is quite adequate to cover costs in most cases

It depends if the wording was the shed must have an external agitation point, as opposed to must not have an internal agitation point.

It's no harm to email your TAMS contact in your local office. I phoned mine on the regular and they were very helpful on how to approach things

does anyone know if it’s ok to install an internal ag point externally for a grant job. Basically I want one of my ag points to one side, the crowd supplying the slats just do the agitation points in the middle for the external ag points, they’re proposing to install an internal slat / ag point. They said they’ve done it before and didn’t have a problem with it but they’d say that anyway.

I used GPS Map Camera. It saves the photo with the coordinates on the bottom. Turning on location access on my phone and following the guidelines set out by the dept on how to save the image didn’t work.
