Back in the late 2000's and early 2010's Bill Cullen use to be on the TV all the time but now you never see him on TV anymore.
It's like hes been "cancelled".
if he was as astute as he portrayed himself then why did his business end up in the shitter? And I believe he lost a lot of personal fortune. Doesn’t strike me as being overly clever in business.
me beautiful legs😉
He's 82 (born in 1942)
I wonder how Jackie is doing.
I don’t believe the sweep the yard yarn-a good team and well run business would have that taken care as a matter of routine during the week. Only way that would happen is maybe in a very small family business or if things were going very badly and couldn’t afford to pay staff to do it. I wouldn’t regard that as the bet use of senior management time though I would agree appearance and presentation are important in business which was possibly the point he was to make
still available on YouTube!
Actually you'll find this one isn't really too bad.
Because Bill never really did anything too bad.
He was all about sleeping 4 hours, taking cq10 vitamins, not wasting a minute in the day - nonsense. Looking back he was a workaholic
Margaret Thatcher had the same philosophy only sleeping 5 hours a night and regarded sleep as a waste of valuable time, she ended up getting alzheimers, in fairness there was not as much known about it back in her day
There's some discussion about the link between very short nighttime sleeps & dementia. I believe Trump is also a fan of 4/5 hours a night.

Doesn't seem to mattered to other business people
he had a zinger of a line that night he was on prime time - something like
“yiz all love an aul Chinese takeaway on a Friday night dont ye? Don’t ye???”audience mumbles
“Well if Ireland doesn’t get up off it’s arse and work, the Chinese WILL *take away* our future prosperity - because the Chinese WANT IT MORE and WORK HARD like I do, that’s what we need more of!!”
It is good that he is so optimistic about reaching 100. However the way things are going he will be lucky if the hotel or bar is still in business come the big day.
Now, that man was the real deal.
If you're looking for a business role model.
agree- and his business is still going strong
China is an authoritarian society with legions of cheap labour who live in abject poverty. Not exactly what ordinary people aspire to. Bill seems to have very simplistic views on certain things
I’d love to hear more about this story??
I think I heard him on some program saying he used to stand in front of the mirror and tell himself how great he was . I used to get tired listening him telling how hard he had and then how successful he became .He used to arrive in a helicopter to things to show people what you can do when you work as hard as him .
Jesus, that sounds grim 😂
he is a great pal of bertie two lads well able to talk shite in fairness
No one should work for free.
There’s something so tacky and undignified about that kind of shallow behaviour
I don't have an issue with him being working class. I do have an issue with him expecting people to work for free. Also writing about yourself in the third person in your own biography. Is a choice.
I remember him once on some RTE show saying “anyone that arrives in to our office after 9.00 am we say good afternoon to them”. Total and utter horseshite and I’d say he ended up with some right disloyal turnips working alongside him- ever work with a plonker of limited ability but always obsessing about “getting ahead”? I imagine a team of those phonies surrounding him telling how great he is
I do remember this being part of the talk he gave. He would stand in the mirror every morning and tell himself how great he was for five minutes. Dave McWilliams was the MC and teased him a bit about it afterwards.
If I remember rightly back in the Tiger days big car dealerships upgraded themselves from being outdoor yard type operations to these giant indoor buildings all glazed in shiny glass. Land costs were high but the banks were throwing money at anyone who wanted it and someone like Cullen could borrow millions off the bat. And he did. But when the crash happened he and other dealerships were left paying huge loans on these flashy buildings when no one was buying new cars. So the deck of cards came tumbling down.
One thing that always struck me about him was how he filmed the Irish Appprentice from 2008 to 2011 during which Cullen would basically blow smoke up his own hole about how successful a businessman he was. However in those three years while he was filming the show in the background his businesses were crumbling and the banks were launching legal cases against him. He was giving one impression on tv but behind the scenes his businesses were crashing under the weight of huge bank loans that he couldnt service. He was ultimately part of that Celtic Tiger hubris that believed prices could only ever go up. And then when they didnt they blamed everyone else but themselves.
If they want to then what is the problem?
The tide of the celtic tiger lifted a lot of boats, big, small, good and bad. When it subsided many were left high and dry. Cullen included.
The circumstances were different.
In the 80s you had a long slow recession, with people who left school but no job to go to and you had workers who became redundant with factory closures etc.
But it was dragged out.
In the late 2000s recession you had a very quick rise in unemployment where thousands upon to thousands were without work in a matter of months as building and all that went with it stopped.
And this was all over the country.
Many people needed to retrain and doing free work was part of that process of finding new career paths.
Does wonders for the self esteem

Jesus had forgotten about The Apprentice. Actually quite enjoyed that. However it was a bit of a farce as each week seemed to be a “sponsored by” affair be it Cadburys, Ford or whoever doing a marketing campaign. None of it related to Cullen’s business from what I remember
I see the Rotten Apples album is up on Spotify and Deezer, have misplaced my original, some proper laughs in it like when he took a Renault Espace in to space 😁
