I don't really understand sports lovers who don't universally like sports. I don't follow GAA particularly, but a GAA pod isn't going to anger me, like some on here seem to get put out by Rugby or LOI, I just skip the pod sometimes..
Reminscent sometimes of the "GAA men" of old, the very mention of the existence of "other" sports would send them off into a rage
Lots of very bitter comments from that lot in the run-up to Euro 88 and Italia 90. The nation collectively told them where to stick that attitude.
Thank you!
I cheated by Googling, I wouldn't have got it myself
Hey all,
Sorry to interrupt the ongoing chats, but this is wrecking my head. This song popped up on my spotify Discover Weekly, and I know it's been used in a sting by Second Captains, but for the lift of me I cannot remember which one, can anyone remind me?
if you scroll up, you'll see my other post on it. Tucker Tim was the one being snarky about it where he criticised Branno. I was responding to him on the topic at the live gig. It was a joke.
I think Duff should win RTE manager of the year and I think it probably is the biggest Irish sport story if you classify the Olympics as several different stories intertwined.
You should really read stuff before going off on one.
Hold up, you can't use the word domestic anymore 😜
Be snarky all you like but it's a massive story and achievement for a club that came back from rock bottom league status wise and almost lost their ground. Chuck in one of the nation's best ever players at the helm and there's very little bigger in 2024.
League of Ireland fans are rightly accused of being snobs at times but Irish people are just as bad punching down on the domestic competition from their Premier League or Celtic high horses (and I support a Premier League team). More Shels content, more promotion of the league, more rattling the begrudgers. Please and thank you.
Just listened to it there. It's a brilliant story, not sure it matters what order the guests were in? They're all very good guests, sounds like it was a great show.
Biggest Irish sports story of the year, didn't ye hear?
They had the hurler of the year, an ABs legend and the best gymnast in the history of the island on the live show and they led with fecking Shels, and it’s not even the one Shels person people want to hear.
Rhys McClenaghan they said on today's pod.
Looks like he's been busy deleting old tweets.
Any one know who the guests were in the 2nd half last night?
I went, huge crowd. They started with 2 Shels players (they were OK) and then Shane O'Donnell (Clare hurler) then they said "we'll be back after the break with some Rugby chat". Me and my friend left.
Not for me.
it was a ridiculous statement from branno, surprised none of the lads picked him up on it. a single bronze medal in the olympics is a bigger story than a LOI win. not denigrating the LOI, just the olympics is so august.
i wonder if the olympics never happened this year, where would Duff's win rank in Irish sport stories? still not sure it's number one but I suppose there's nothing else
Personally reckon Duff has a great chance of RTÉ Sport Manager of the Year. Outsiders to league champions with a group of players largely not considered best in the league is incredible. As the Olympics isn't a single story but a series of individual stories woven together over a short period, I can see the logic. It's certainly up there but so is Rhys falling off the pommel 4 years ago to winning gold. I'd forgive any fan of any sport championing their sports the week after a big event happened.
I cant think of a better Irish manager this year. McGeeney? Maybe. Brian Lohan? Maybe. Farrell? Not for me.
Branno literally said Duffer frothing his way to a LoI title was the biggest sports story in the year we had our greatest ever Olympics, something that brought so many parts of society that don’t engage with any sport, into the fold for a beautiful shining moment that will be remembered by everyone who was there to witness it.
Jesus H. Christ. This is why LoI supporters are the butt of so many jokes.
Beware….Justin Marshall on the rampage tonight!
Michael Murphy playing for Donegal next year.
Poor Rocky, Eoin didn't even wish him well or good luck.
TIL there's a Second Captains subreddit
Some people on the second captains subreddit selling them

Go over to the current affairs thread on the election. A bunch of lads in there will be happy to tell you what has happened through their tears.
Tell me one non-mainstream political view Ken has. Hardly right wing given a chunk of my working life has been acting as a caseworker for asylum applicants, funny carry-on for a right-winger dont you think? I could make assumptions about you based on your posting style but i'll defer because that would be silly.
That Donegan pod looks even more out of touch this morning.
Im somewhat desperate for some kind of return at this point!! But selling 2 tickets for the Second Captains Podcast tonight in the Gaiety. Happy to listen to offers at this late point…

He wasn't up against much. Harris was dreadful.
Is Donegan going to come down from his Ivory tower to tell us all what happened?
He didn't guarantee Harris would win, he said there would be nothing in it, I've seen others be way more confident than him.
It really a shocking indictment of Americans that he got so many votes, he showed callous indifference during COVID and tried to stage a coup 'ah sure he's a grand lad altogether'
My faith in Lawrence Donegan’s political analysis has been severely undermined
Any tickets available for the show tomorrow night?
