Streaming should be brought back for secondary school and students allowed to move from one group to another based on ability, rather than one class having a mix of students for foundation, ordinary and higher level - no one is really getting what they need. I'd say that's more important than at primary level.

Nowadays parents are just relieved if they manage to get their child into a school in some areas.

Don’t agree. My kid is in first class and there are 5 grown ups in the room, teacher, assistant and 3 SNAs.
It’s probably a different story at secondary level though. Those hormones kick in and boys with macho dads start thinking they’re all that.

Is that in England, or up north? We don’t have teaching assistants here, as far as I know anyway.

Or is it a DEIS school? I, personally, think all schools should be run like DEIS schools. Would certainly help with the inclusion model.

It’s an educate together in Dublin. I don’t think the person refers to themself as assistant, that’s my term, but it’s what they are.

That's kinda different to the problem you talked about in your previous post though - kids with behaviour issues and kids who might not be as intellectual holding others back - and this solution does nothing to address either.

You can't sort primary school kids out by trade or aptitude - how do you know an 8-10 year old is going to be good at cookery or art or carpentry or even interested in any of those things? Secondary school - maybe, but I think there are trends towards that anyway with transition years.

Classrooms and school also help with social and emotional development and learning how to be part of a group is an important part of going to school.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

What kind of different system? This was pre junior cert years where the classes were differentiated based on (I think dropping a language as a subject). Going into the leaving, the classes would then be determined by chosen subjects and English, Irish and Maths being broken out by level.
Aside from having a lot more teachers/classrooms and maybe threats of expulsion/parents being forced to intervene more, I can’t think of a different way.

I get the logic to why Hitler did what he did.

Not sure the phrase "ends justify the means" applies here! Logic is one thing, but Hitler, like all far right wingers, trades that in for emotion and it's usually all downhill from there. "Populism" is the modern parlance, I believe.

I'm disgusted by Israel's (and anywhere's) mass slaughter but nothing justifies hatred of all Jews. It's fkd up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,785 ✭✭✭The Golden Miller

Does anyone hate all Jews though? Seems like people being anti zionist is confounded by the media as anti semitism

Oh I know there are constant false claims of anti-Semitism for merely criticising the mass slaughter of children, but there is actual anti-Semitism too, and it's disturbing.

So what do you have to do to deserve a bad rep, kill a billion people rather than a few million?

I didn’t know they did away with that . Seems ludicrous that they’d have a class of 30+ children with vastly different abilities

Don't know if it was mentioned before:

    1) Smoking ban would ease health care burden, therefore should be implemented

    2) Mothers should be encouraged to stay at home and most importantly they should be supported and valued. There should be at least 4 years of paid(min basic income) maternity leave otherwise.

Ireland should demand the return of Roger Casements diaries as a matter of national importance.

Watching CL highlights and Kelleher should be Liverpool goalkeeper no 1

It is giving free rein to the antisemitic losers to THEN claim they are merely protesting Israel. Attacking synagogues, assaulting anyone who, to their limited intellect, looks Jewish.

And the UK police let them get away with it.

The so called palestinian flag should be banned.

Those who espouse Russian/Chinese/Iranian/Hezbollah/Hamas talking points should be sent on a one way all expenses paid fact finding trip to these places.

Only someone who doesn't know the difference between Anti Zionism and Anti semitism would have an issue with the Palestinian flag. Isreal love pretending that the people against their slow genocide are against Jews when really they just don't want genocide

Being anti mass slaughter is very fair - in relation to any case, including that of Hamas.

Well capitalism is an immoral abyss. From the foundations of society, a Jewish construct. They'd be sending people to break your legs from the start of time if you didn't pay debts etc.

There's a reason they have probably never been well liked but play the victim card. And Jews around the globe generally turn a blind eye to what Israel does.

No smoke without fire. I've nothing against any Jew on a personal level, but to be honest, can't say I particularly like them tbh, for some of the stuff outlined above

Well it is a controversial opinion thread after all… sure finance and lending was brought about by the Sumerians before Judaism was established properly but don't let that get in the way.

A lot of dislike just stems from envy of substantial wealth and accomplishments by a small group of people.

Yep them too, tho now that Putin’s puppy has won again and Biden no longer has any reason to restrain them (all them Lefties and Arab Americans voting for trump or staying at home must be kicking themselves now)

I fully expect to see Trump Resorts stretching from the river to the sea

I don't get the West's love affair with Ukraine. They were selling weapons to the Myanmar military, they're just another dirty player on the world stage.

First they came for the socialists...
