He's excellent. First caught him supporting Seamus Fogarty and he was very impressive. Nice guy too, sat down beside me before the main act and chatted away. He's done a few tracks with Kim Deal that are worth a listen. And didn't you also catch him before the Delines in the Pepperpot?

I've seen them a couple of dozen times at this stage and Thursday night was indeed up there with the best. It was great to see so many travelling from afar to be there. Down at our little section of the front there were people who had flown in from Belgium, Finland, USA, UK, Netherlands and Germany just to be at that gig.
January to November isn't much better these days!
Agree definitely getting worse. Crowd at St Vincent were brilliant though
If anything the An Taibhdhearc venue for Rachael Lavelle's gig was the most respectful crowd I've ever seen at a gig, you couldn't hear a pin drop. When I took a clip of the support act I whispered quietly that this was the support for Rachael, even that felt loud, it was that respectful. Much quieter than the ATN or BTP performances. Will throw up a small review and some clips later.
Nice. Crowd at Bill Callaghan a few weeks’ ago were also pristine. Great to experience it.
Probably unlikely, but if anyone has a spare ticket or two for MJ Lenderman in the Workmans I'd gladly take them off your hands.
Travelled to Wexford to see Kingfishr in the Spielgetent on Saturday
I brought the 16 yr old lad with me, hes a big fan of them …
We were turned away at the door by the security, Over 18s only….
Turned around and made the 75 min jounrney home…..

My relations were at them in a different part of the country. A 9 year old and two 12 year olds.
Official line from Wexford Spiegeltent seems to be:
The minimum age to access a performance is based on the act and time of the show. The minimum age requirement will be posted on the event page and visible before purchase

And the Kingfishr event page does indicate "Over 18’s show" so does seem a bit unfortunate.
I didnt even check the pages , as we were on the guest list via a friend….
How he can go into Green Day/Pearl jam etc with me, but not into a tent on Wexford Quay to see Kingfishr is a 'bit irish' as the saying goes… but anyway.

That seems too harsh. All the Arts Festival Big Top gigs in Galway allow under-18s. Same with most of the Roisín Dubh gigs where I've taken a nephew and niece but I got confirmation from the venue beforehand. The promoter just asked that the youngsters leave straight after the gig. Never an issue with any performance here but there'll obviously be exceptions with very loud events or those that are going too clearly be inappropriate for younger teenagers. It just takes a bit of common sense and you may have just got unlucky with an officious bouncer. Better luck next time.

Looks like one lad from Belfast, presume he'll just be behind a laptop and twiddling some dials but he sounds really good. Not much out there, but really enjoying the "Brace for Impact" EP, I'll definitely be getting there in time to see him
Caught him at Borderline fest in February and he was good alright. Didn't realize he was supporting, will definitely show up for him.
What is the Opium venue like? Thinking of seeing a DJ there next year. What is the crowd generally like?

In short, a terrible venue for live music, but, maybe it's better for a DJ.

I think Olympia downstairs is good. Maybe less towards the back, but decent overall. Circle ok-ish, upper circle not really.
I don't like Opium at all, been only a few times (once when it was still called The Village I think) and I would be very hard pressed to go again.
No, Opium is worse
At least there is a bit of space in the Olympia.
But both suffer similar issues because they are old buildings.
Pillars everywhere blocking views of stage ,low ceilings at back half where no sound gets to ( two thirds with Opium ) underneath an awkward upper level.
Last gig I was at in Opium we could not hear for the first 20 mins of the concert .
Bar area along the side where chatters congregate to make sound issues worse
It's primarily a nightclub
I love the Olympia! As long as you're not right down the back the sound is usually decent too
