Starting a thread for 2025 gigs as they'll likely start rolling in.
I'll arbitrarily throw in Rob Beckett playing the Olympia on the 26th September 2025 which went on sale today.
Maccabees a very decent band, far from the landfill of the Kooks & Pigeon Detectives. Excellent at EP 2012 in the EA after Granddaddy and Grizzly Bear.
manics doing a spring uk tour new album announced
Green Day are definitely around in June. Already playing Hurricane, Firenze Rock, Tons of Rocks and Southside with a very good chance of a Glastonbury booking. Also playing Werchter in early July and several other standalone gigs. Not my taste but I’d happily check them out at a fest.
Also a strong chance they turn up at Download
the discussion was about primavera going pop and supposed absence of rock headliner. primavera has grabbed three of the biggest artists about as headliners. Good job on that front.
A few years ago I would have 100% agreed with you but like you said with capacity increasing they are booking a lot more mainstream acts that sell tickets.
I went 10 years ago Volcano Choir and Slowdive were headliners, I went again 2 years ago and Calvin Harris and Skrillix were headliners....
Still an amazing festival just the main stage area is liable to have some absolute shite on it now.
sure capacity has grown from 30/40k back in 2009/2010 to 90k a day now. Has to appeal to the masses and does the balance really well I think. A lot of great acts on the undercard. Nothing to do with the festival but habit of fans of lana del ray etc to camp out at main stage all day and be totally disinterested until her slot is bad.
Ah yes, my misunderstanding, thanks. Three big headliners for sure but it skewers the festival a bit. Some great sub-headliners but I too am surprised at the lack of balance with the top three. Still, like Glasto, they’re managing to provide artists for (almost) all tastes. A recipe for longevity I believe.
Blossoms announced as support for the UK dates for Stereophonics.
The Darkness playing chq in Belfast August 9th
kneecap for fairview
Maccabees announced as first headliner for All Points East festival in London's Victoria Park. Sunday August 22nd.
Dean Lewis for Fairview - 24th June
Early days yet but think the outdoor summer gigs announced so far are fairly underwhelming. I get the economics though and cost of touring for international acts so understand why more Irish and UK based acts would play.
big international acts who are popular have little to no availability in the summer and what availability they have they want mad money. Mcd goal for its summer shows is to not lose money and make a decent profit. It’s not to curate and book an exciting array of acts.
Do you think we have any chance of LCD Soundsystem again next summer?
They'd be perfect headliners for Forbidden Fruit or ATN. Zero chance of them going with a different promotor to MCD?
Like I said I get the economics if it. Just think the gig calender suffers for it. I'm sure they've crunched the numbers and know the booked artists will sell and that few thousands will get to see acts they want to. Think for anything outside the ordinary realistically need to travel outside Ireland in the summer which I think is a pity. Would be interesting to see if there's something like In the Meadows again. Definitely think there's a market for a few day festival over a weekend like All Points East, not necessarily with exact same calibre of acts but still.
Yeah, although the Lankum curated event wasn't exactly my scene, the idea was great.. A few of those kinda curated events would be lovely. Doesn't demand a massive headliner, more a solid bunch of acts throughout the day.
Little to no availability in the summer ?
Is that a joke because since Covid most acts tour during the summer months.
Its looking like being a lean year next year, 2024 was overpacked.
LCD would be a great headliner for ATN but the fact they've worked with MCD the last number of years doubt we will see it
Think there'll be a lot more gig announcements in the next 6 weeks to be honest - priming up for the Christmas present market.
Would love to see LCD back doing something like ATN next year.. they're touring given Primavera announced last week and new album next year.
I must've misheard.
Manics are an amazing band. I saw them a few years back in the Ambassador. Couldn't believe I got to see there - 2007. Have seen them quite a few times overth years.
yeah a lot of big international bands have little availability in the summer. They have probability 4X the offers than dates available in europe so it’s a combination of luck and timing that we even get the number of big international bands doing shows here in the summer. Hence the likes of fairview, iveagh, st Anne’s, LATM utilise Irish or uk acts to the degree that they do.
I’d agree with you, summer 2024 (especially June) was absolutely packed with gigs from big acts doing both indoor and outdoor shows. 2022 was not as full, but still packed.
2023 was relatively barren though.
Ghost announced a European and USA for 2025, no irish dates.
Are we thinking we might get a Paul McCartney gig any time next year? Could do some European stadiums surely?
Did they sell well the last time they came here? I only ever saw them when they supported Metallica at Slane and thought they were class
No they sold about 5k tickets in the Point. Top tier was closed off.
A real pity!
I see from their tour poster that it's a "phone free experience" so all concert attendees will need to lock their phones in a pouches. Seen it for comedy gigs but not large scale music concerts. Interesting to see how it plays out
Bob Dylan had that in place for his last tour I think?
Wish it was feasible to ban phones for concerts in general. It’s interesting that most artists don’t really care because it definitely has a big effect on the atmosphere.
