Getting the free satellite channels...

I am already set up with a TV, a satellite dish and a satellite receiver with its own power that plugs into the aerial and also the TV.

I am wondering about getting a second TV and want to ask if,this time I can get one with the satellite tuner inside the TV?

I have seen that you can get Saorview TVs and also with Freeview but these need terrestrial aerials and I think you need to be close to the border with the North for Freeview to work.

Im using my old sky satellite connection screwed into the tv, most tvs have these now and I get all free to air including music channels. Use the terrestrial areal for irish channels but very rarely.

Yep, got rid of sky in March and the 2 connections at back of sky box i disconnected 1 was for receiving channels the other connection was for recording so didn't need it. We had an old 40" Sony bravia from 2005 so upgraded to 50" and I seen that it had same connection so I popped it in and went to settings and selected satellite and start scan and I got all channels plus some, we have a really old sky plus box in our other living room that has all the free to air , I'll take more pics tomorrow and pop up. W

There's plenty of brands out there that have a built in satellite tuner, just need to check the specs as versions will differ in what they have

You're next problem will be relocating the second cable you were using for recordings to where the TV will be

So you need to connect those TVs directly to a satellite dish and use a usb stick to record if the particular TV supports recording?

Btw it isn't me who had the old SKY box with 2 connections.That was the other poster @Madd002 .

Yes - you connect to the TV directly that has a sat tuner. No need for a separate receiver that needs plugging in. You will need to check if you have a single or dual LNB on the dish, if single it will need upgrading to a dual LNB so you have two feeds (cheap and easy enough to do) unless you want the same channel on both tv's

Most modernish tv's will have a USB port that can be used for recording. You could also go down the route of a receiver with an HDD - gives you a lot more recording space than a USB if you are a frequent recorder

So here's the steps I took, I'm not bothered by the recording side of things.

As you can see there's 436 channels alot duplicates just need time to sit filter and delete.

I think it was 30 for basic but I didn't find it worth it sky one and sky atlantic only 2 I miss.

I updated list in order and deleted so I've 93 channels in all 😊

That sounds about right.

Cutting out all the religious crap, the selling channels and unwanted foreign language stuff and +1s, I've got about 70.

With Sony, you can export your channel list to a usb, and use some Sony SW to reorder/ delete channels ,

Then reload the program list via USB.

On a sh itty Hisense TV that we have I just created a fav list of all the channels I want, using the remote control
