Waze V Google Maps

Just back from a long road trip.

1/2 way through the journey, on a recommendation of a friend, I tried Waze.

Its way ahead of Google, particularly as it gives your current speed as well as the speed limit for the road you're travelling on. It also gives you warnings about obstructions coming up. It then asks you to confirm if the obstruction is still there.

Also better at advising you which lane you should be in in advance

All of those features you mention are in Google Maps too.

Obstructions, traffic jams, roadworks, etc. Ask to confirm road works occasionally. They have been there a long time.

Some app must have been telling everyone on the n4 today to change lanes in heavy traffic all the time because the other lane was moving marginally faster at that very moment.....they were all at it this morning changing lanes and back again for no reason at 20kmph

Obstructions, roadwork, traffic, etc have been on it years for me might depend on area in terms of coverage. But traffic data was first was introduced about 15 years ago.

Speed limits were 5 years ago. (here is a mention of it online in 2020).

If may be that Ireland was only added recently, I live overseas. Anytime I'm here the car I use has onboard navigation with speed limits so I don't use google here.

Does google maps let motorist report live traffic conditions in real time the same way that waze does?
This, for me, is it's true value.

It is also waaay more accurate than my dashboard nav at estimated journey duration

the only thing I don’t like about Waze is a multi waypoint journey. You can only have one destination and one waypoint, not multiple stops.

Having said that , I always use Waze ahead of google maps

Yes Google Maps (on iOS at least) allows you to report live traffic conditions in real time.

Has anyone else noticed that sometimes the icon for reporting doesn't appear when using Apple CarPlay, but does appear on the Google Maps app?

My biggest issue is that saved locations in Maps are not available in the Waze, despite both being owned by Google. There is also no web enabled version to preplan on.

If this was the case, I'd use Waze wholeheartedly.

I always use the satellite view in Google maps and the view in waze feels very cartoonish or something. Don't like it at all.

Regularly plan routes with multiple destinations too

GPS speed is more accurate. Your speedometer is designed to over read. A lot of the cars I drive show 120 km/h on the speedometer but are actually only doing a GPS speed of 112 km/h. So it means you can increase your speed and still be within the speed limit

I know now that 127kmph on my dashboard is 120kmph GPS speed so as long as I keep the dash below 130 I'm grand

I switch between both and am currently using waze. My dislikes on Waze are it slightly heats my phone and it doesnt offer alternative routes at junctions with a time estimate for the alternative route.

Mine did show current speed and the speed limit in that particular area but it seems to have disappeared.

Only want to glance down once and see everything. Not look at speed limit on phone and then look at speedo on dash.
