I had a issue when I was setting out on my own and trying to get the Single Farm payment sorted, there was an issue with the young farmers 25% top up. I was building a house at the time and I was under pressure for money and had banked on getting the payment to cover a bank payment. I got talking to a horrible woman in Cavan about the delay and put my case forward, well she was the rudest person I ever came across no reasoning with at all. There was few choice words shared over the phone resulting in me getting an 1 hour notice department inspection the following day. Now it could have been coincidence but ill let you decide. Be careful dealing with those cross women in Cavan they hold all the power.

    100% agree.

I've come across a few of them too in my time and the rudeness of them when I doubt they have very much education at all and just got lucky getting those jobs years ago and dept. can't get rid of them now 😤

We had a call from the department on Sunday to "finalise" our application. My oh missed the call as she was at mass. Asked her a few odd questions like do we have Livestock and then said all was OK for processing.

GOt a text earlier, I'd expect payment in account tomorrow or Friday

BISS arrived. I'm down 60% since my peak of years ago. How could any business be down 60% in 10 years and costs have sky rocketed. It's so unfair and they gave it to less productive land in other parts of the country.

I'm not in acres, I took one hard look at that scheme and didn't join. Looking back at Glas it was money for jam in comparison.

Anyway the cattle and sheep made a nice turn to keep the wheels going.

It's a disgrace what has happened to the payments there's a huge amount of money now going to unproductive and extensive sheep hill/mountain farmers. It's going to be a couple of generations before some of this money returns into circulation in the local economy 😳

Luke Ming Flanagan lobbied strongly for that change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,216 ✭✭✭✭Birdnuts

EU signaled that change nearly 30 years ago under McSharry due to Beef mountains, Wine lakes etc. With further EU expansion Eastwards the pot was always going to be stretched and there is little appetite among EU countries to further expand farmings 40% share of EU funding. The main industrial farming orgs didn't help the case when crying wolf about "food shortages" at the start of the Ukranian war, only to see the EU grain, poultry markets etc. flooded with excess production from same leading to bailouts for these sectors across many countries via the already stressed CAP budget

And yet idiots keep voting for him time and time again 🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,351 ✭✭✭endainoz

Nothing to do with him, no point blaming EU policy on one person. Same idea for a lot of environmental policies get blamed on the greens when it's usually EU policy.

Anyway new election just around the corner so the public can vote the same crowd in again.

He did definitely I have not and will never vote for that charlatan .......he got elected on the premise of legalising weed and other wishy washy rubbish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,216 ✭✭✭✭Birdnuts

He's pretty popular with smaller farmers in the West, plus worked hard on the Mica issue. I'd say the bigger idiots were the ones who voted for a celebrity jockey and washed up RTE Z listers who despite blowing hard on farming issues via their FFG handlers during the election, don't appear to be able to find the Agri Committee room in Brussels based on their (non) attendance records for key meetings…..

Are sheep farmer's not entitled to their share? Especially the hill men who are working for very poor returns.

Yea, we got away with murder the last ten years, I thought we'd be hit with reductions in 2013 at the last CAP reform. Commisioner Ciolos was pushing to level the payments at the time.

Exactly, it's been a big help. It and the national reserve.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭green daries

No Not the ones I know who do f all from one end of the year to the other drinking tea until it's time to drink pints ....... any of the sheep lads who were working hard had good payments...... as an aside my preference is for abolition of the payments and get a proper return for our produce

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭green daries

It's shocking what passes ad electable anymore 😕 😐. There were very few candidates of substance in any area of the country for the eu election

In fairness, I like to give out and I like a good bitch dnd a moan as much as the next man if not more but I'm in a similar boat...

Found them quite helpful over the years…always try to be polite...worked in a couple of customer service type jobs over the years so have something like empathy....

Now dealing with Eir a couple of years back...that tested my patience

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,681 ✭✭✭J.O. Farmer

Eir, the crowd that in 2019 needed a phone line installed to see if I could get broadband even though I had an eircode so they could see exactly where I lived.

Then they install said phone line, I ring up and they say I'll get fantastic broadbandand as there was fibre to the cabinet. Then the engineer arrives out he says there's no point as the cabinet is 3 mile away.

It then took a 3rd phone call with much waiting to cancel the broadband they couldn't provide.

I see how they could try your patience.

ECO showing up as paid in the BISS section of Agfood for me. Payment approval date of 15/10, so hoping it will be in the account in the next few days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭cap.in.hand.

My eco payment is less than last year for same land base...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 610 ✭✭✭StoutPost

What amazes me is the wasting of money that must have occurred by the 20% of farmers who received 80% of the CAP money. What did they spend it all on if their businesses are in such trouble now. Foolish to expect public money to flow forever.

We are the same as that on both herd numbers. Small difference only but a difference nonetheless
