Duffy is from that vintage that after saying a blatantly racist joke aloud confidently proclaim that “I’m not racist, it’s only a joke” and give you a dirty look to indicate that to them you are the problem. I’d imagine his defence of his “comedic” pal is grounded in this type of thinking.

Is O’Carroll a racist? I suspect probably not. Does he tell racist and homophobic jokes? Yes.

I’m assuming he didn’t actually say the N-word aloud, but even still, it’s pretty stupid to think this would be acceptable in this day and age. O’Carroll’s material would be outdated in 1970s English working men’s clubs, yet somehow he’s given some sort of pass pedalling it today on mainstream tv. You don’t see anyone else doing Bernard Manning tribute acts these days except O’Carroll. Quite bizarre really when you think about it.

Duffy’s double-standards are laughable when you see the unprompted defence he launched for O’Carroll compared to how he treats caller with whom he has a difference of opinion. It really is Duffy’s Circus.
