Continued from the 2023 thread.
Four new Standard Definition tests with pattern and tone have appeared on LCNs 9, 10, 28 and 31.
yes I saw the test card channels and hbb tv test too
Probably need a 'box' with the DVB-I capability as TVs will have to serve their expected life. 😉
The test card is still only 1440x1080i.I wonder could we see a new channel .
Might be wishful thinking on my part but maybe 2rn and Virgin Media have agreed carriage of VM 1 HD. I realize it's only a proof of concept but in the video posted above I noticed the icon for playback on the Virgin Media channels when the epg was scrolled back. Would this suggest that VM Play along with RTÉ player & TG4 player will be incorporated into the DVB I version of Saorview?
I can't remember if we had a HD test card similar to the one that appeared yesterday in the run up to TG4 HD launching?
How are all these channels and test cards fit into two multiplexes. I thought a third multiplex may have opened.
Low bitrate on those test cards
Maybe we may get a new channel but who knows
They’re definitely getting their money’s worth out of the PT5300 anyway.
that’s a good question. How do we all know but we will have to find out
I don't know how having or using a Saorview streaming app is selling your soul to Google or Apple. Such an app could exist in parallel to Saorview or indeed a Saorview/DVB-I hybrid service, I never suggested that it would be a Saorview replacement.
I wonder will the DVB-I work on the Saorview Connect box
It's a new standard so no
I would say no. You will have to get another set top box
Thanks
Your welcome
Some more tests this morning on 26, 27 and 32
Some old B&W cards! Top one looks like an old Philips PM5540, bottom one seems to be an SMPTE card of some sort. Very odd.
Edit: Seems to be back to the usual Philips patterns now, just checked the live broadcast.
Looks like test cards from foreign TV stations
Maybe they'll put on Indian Head next 😯
Some 1960s RTE test cards had some resemblance to the third one above.
Don't see the point of putting these test cards on unless they are going to Launched some new tv channels
DVB-I/HbbTV IP channels will be allocated LCNs, a possible explanation.
For example we saw HbbTV content on LCN 32 previously.
It doesn't really matter either way. The full bandwidth of the mux is transmitted anyway so it's a choice of burning off the free space as null PIDs or putting something on it. It would be better if they used the free space to improve picture quality but the pricing structure would never allow for it.
Should have been done at launch - here's something brand new to warrant you all having to buy new tv's or a receiver, many years later I don't think anyone cares about Saorview
Your right there
Eamon Ryan a free black and white TV for everyone in the country 😃😃😃
That would be far better
Off topic but can anyone recommend a slim stick for saorview, preferably from aliexpress or amazon? Thank you
What's a 'slim stick'? various ideas come to mind … 😁 Do you mean a USB tuner?
