Reported missing on 30th August after not being seen for 2 days. He’s 8 years old. Why would you leave it 2 days before reporting it?

Mod - Move on from the statutory rape comments please, it's not relevant
That's true.
But a person with a mental health issue that substantially affects their ability to relate to others is unlikely to be able to parent effectively.
And so they kill their child?
Mental health apologists sicken my hole.
Yeah "fallen between the cracks". Funny that it's always the most difficult cases, the ones in sink estates and halting sites that happens to.
Regular families that have unfortunately ended up on their radar, they excel at making life hell.
As a state, we have never been good at taking care of the most vulnerable in society i.e. children. And I am not just talking about the church. Mental health services here are a disgrace. Look at CAMHS. I believe community psychiatric nurses were on strike very recently over lack of resources and funding. But bike shelters...
They are but I would think trying to kill a child would stop you ever having custody again
The granny , obviously lied to Gardaí .
People shouldn’t just sit back and let their suspicions remain. If bystanders see something which does not sit right with them, they should report it to the Gardai or ideally confront the family themselves and point out the suspected mistreatment of a child. Cases like these reinforce my view that the Chinese surveillance society could be a very good thing to prevent children being abused. If a family goes on a Tusla watchlist, they must allow cameras in their home and do daily check-ins.
Drogheda boy may have been killed over two years ago - gardaí
This is getting more and more disturbing as it develops. I don't know, but it sounds like extended family members may have been involved in a cover-up. And the State's various institutions are going to have a lot of difficult questions to answer as well.
Certainly but there seems to be a lot more people in this story than one. Whatever part they played, at the very least is is horrific neglect and disinterest
Read that article from August. Granmother said he was sleeping on the couch, so if garda are right in saying he is dead two years, then more than the mother is involved in this
10yr old killed by her father in the UK.
This 8yr old killed by his family here.
Another young child killed by their family in Dungannon.
Wtf is wrong with people? Killing your kids. If you're depressed, go and throw yourself off a bridge , but why kill your kids?
They never deserve to see the light of day again in their lives.
They can recover all they want. But if my neighbour tried to kill my child twice during breakdowns, I wouldn’t be calling them up to babysit. If someone has tried to kill a child TWICE they should not be able to have any access to that child, mother or not. Disaster waiting to happen.
I hope any kids in their care are taken off them all, a disturbing case
I suspect this will turn out to be a case of multi-generational addiction, abuse, violence and trauma. His mother was only 16 when she had him, let us not forget. There seems to be an entire family involved in a cover-up spanning years here; that's not just one person snapped/had mental health issues territory, it's Kerry Babies/Cork "House of Horrors"* stuff.
*I hate using such a tabloidy term, but it's how people refer to the case.
I agree with your point......in many ways its a terrible world we as a species have inflicted on ourselves...
Yet spending millions investigating things which happened over 50 years ago, unorthodox burials etc while ignoring children who need help today.
These children's parents, siblings & other relatives are probably still alive & keenly feeling the effects of the actions of others all these years later
It shouldn't be an either/or scenario. The same attitudes that saw mother & baby homes widely accepted back in the day enable an environment where children like Kyran can be abused and made to disappear seemingly without anyone even noticing.
When the only photo of a missing 8 year old is one of a 3 to 4 year old , you know that the poor little fella must have had it tough for a long time alright . Most of us these days have hundreds of pics for every year of our children's lives, every memory is so precious and they are cherished .
Hope they find out soon what happened, poor little boy .😔
The mother has two other children so she had 3 children by the age of 24.
Mother and baby homes were actually an attempt to provide support when those mothers would otherwise have been destitute, disowned by their families and no social welfare then. There is only a limited amount of money and I think it should be spent on children who are alive today and may benefit from intervention. It’s much easier to bang on about what happened years ago rather than intervening in what is happening today.
It's a huge problem and one successive governments have ignored and couldn't care less about. The lack of structural supports in place is shocking. We're stuck with an incompetent government who think throwing a double children benefit payment at families like this is going to solve generational issues of abuse and addiction.
Yes, exactly. If ever there was an argument against that stupid give away budget, this is it.
You cant blame the government for this one. I have issues with them as much as anyone but this is pure evil at play.
We're veering off-topic so I'll leave it at this: if you genuinely believe the mother and baby homes didn't have a punitive mission at their core, then you're either incredibly naive or deliberately missing the point. Either way, I'm off to bed. Have a lovely evening.
If it turns out to be the mother, she'll likely be placed in a mental health facility until she's deemed as not a treat to anybody.
Probably be out in a few years.
Yet if it was the father it'll be a full life sentence and rightly so.
She'll never get out if the cmh though.
Oh stop with the drum banging. We read it the first time.
Well its not a sickening as the mental health drum banging.
"Ahh must be mental health bla bla bla"
Not many would do that job, and many of those who do don't do it for long.
