If October 7th was planned for years, then Hamas managed to kill just over 1000 Israeli people (military and civilians) in one day. Doesn't that make a nonsense of the claims that Israel faces an existential threat and is "fighting for its very survival"?
The Oct 7th represented the most Jews killed violently in a single day since the Holocaust. Hamas have sworn to repeat it again and again until Israel is gone. During the attack, Hamas were able to advance far into Israel, which should be extremely worrying, but not particularly surprising given how small Israel is.
And while the October 7th attacks were horrifying, they were simply an escalation of terrorism inflicted on Israel on a daily basis by Hamas - many if not most Israeli civilians have to live with a 15 second run of a bomb shelter given the constant missile, rocket and other forms of attacks that occur constantly on an ongoing basis. You cannot be surprised that Israel have finally reacted. FAFO.

Any thoughts on how a nuclear power is facing existential threats from groups/states that aren't even on par with Israel in a conventional militarily sense? Israel are not 'defending themselves', they are aggressively waging a war that they feel beyond reproach for. The notion of self defence is pathetically risible at this stage.

Prior to Oct 7th Israel was getting relaxed, enjoying peace and trading more and more with Gaz and all it's neighbours, they had other ideas though.
Gabor Mate, Ilan Pape and Gideon Levy are worth listening to on the Israel/Arab conflict. Mate was talking about how Israeli's are doctrinated as children to hate Arabs. This helps to desensitise them to killing Arabs as they learn to view them as sub human.
The Third Reich viewed Jews as sub human so the parallels are frightening. The founding of Israel in 1948 on Palestinian land was a recipe for disaster from the get go. It is true that Palestinians have carried out attrocities against Israel down the years. But it is equally true that the Palestinian people are oppressed by occupiers of their land. Those who live in Israel are second class citizens in echoes of pre 1994 South Africa.
It is deeply depressing that the U.S, the supposed beacon of democracy around the world, supports, funds and arms Israel to oppress Palestinians both inside and outside Israel. It has caused America to lose any moral authority it has in the world. Their politicians are too dumb and lacking in statesmanship to realise it.
Israel as it currently exists needs to cease to exist. It is a poisonous entity. Only a free Palestine from the river to the sea where Jews are welcome and free to live can truly work. Israel will not tolerate or facilitate a free Palestine state.

It certainly needs to cease to exist in it's current format. If there was an option for a renewed Israel that wasn't a genocidal apartheid state then that would be the preferred option. Hard to see that coming to fruition as the hardliners are at the wheel and have no intention of letting go.
