Issue and solution explained here:
Ok, have you now. Hopefully the issue and solution in the post above sorts it @Basilio
As I suspected, faulty occupancy sensor. Replaced under five years Hyundai Warranty.

Have had mine replaced 3 times!
Interesting, at what mileage intervals was it done?
Now, after replacing a pad, I can put a small bag on the passenger seat and it does not trigger seat-belt alarm. Those pads are designed to figure out 1.No Occupant, 2.Small weight, 3.Heavy weight. It in turn impacts speed at which Airbag deploys.
I see that GoCar have an electric Kona. We were going to hire it to try it.
For someone who has driven manuals for 20 years how hard is it to drive the Kona?
Depends how quickly you can forget that you have a left foot. In all seriousness it should be easy. The transition back might be more difficult.
Exactly, there's nothing to learn as such - it's more about the habits you have to forget.
Is there much to it beforehand in terms of gears? I presume it's drive and neutral and reverse
It's easier than most cars. To start press foot on brake and press start button, just beware you may want to press auto hold, otherwise you need to keep foot on brake at traffic lights.
Thanks. I heard one pedal driving mentioned.
Does this somehow eliminate the brake pedal?
it takes less than a couple of mins to figure out once you're in the car, and it's easier than trying to figure it out from posts here. You'll be grand!
It doesn't have one pedal driving
This is the gear selector. Press the brake before changing. In 5 years I have never used neutral.
Thanks it's our first introduction to an EV
Regeneration automatically slows down the car when you let off the accelerator. It's adjustable and reduces the need to press the brake. The brake pedal is still there.
Hi people.. I am considering importing a Kona EV from the UK. May i know if the warranty is valid in ROI? also any suggestions on what to check for when buying a used Kona EV? thanks
Any concerns on the ev by long term users? I see that the bumper isnt alligned with body to begin with
Contact Kia Ireland for confirmation. It is for Hyundai. In the UK the warranty conditions may have different mileage and years. You may also need proof each service was performed at the correct mileage as needed.
Certain year konas were subject to main battery replacement, if done it's probably a good thing, if around same year as recall and not subject to recall then it may be a concern.
Uk specs can be different to roi. Many roi cars were very basic spec.
Confirm battery size 100% as there are different options and often dealers lie or get it wrong or dont know. A phone app and an old dongle will confirm battery size, check for crash damage, credit history and write off report.
Hi all,
My 2019 Kona is out of warranty since March 2024 and its due a service in the next couple of weeks.
I was just wondering if owners in a similar situation are still going to Hyundai dealers for a service or are you just getting an annual dealer battery check done to maintain the 8 year / 160,000 km battery warranty.
Thanks
In my opinion, if the battery is fine to this point then there is no reason to believe that it won't last to 160,000km. We'll go to an indy garage, if we can find one that's happy with looking at EVs. The service experience from Hyundai hasn't been great.
Hi,
I got mine done in John Earls in Arklow, v. knowledgeable about EV's in general. Changed reduction gear oil as was some noise from engine. ( darker than a pint of guinness :-) ). Explained motor / gears seemed OK, should be no issue, as the noise may quieten with the new oil. If it gets very bad, they can rebuild motor / recondition for a reasonable price.
Service was good value, will be back in 6 months.
this thread has probably made me park the idea of getting a Kona. It’s in my price range, it’s a good suitable size and my folks have a great relationship with their Hyundai dealer, they’ve been driving Tucson’s for about 9 years, think on their 4th now..and never had an issue. But the Kona….unsolvable knocking issues, infotainment software problems , aircon, clutch issues….and more besides….hmmmm lots of these indifferent independent reviews from owners online so….
Might just return to one of the old reliables…. Nissan / Toyota / Mazda . Doubt I can justify the Tuscon…
What clutch? This is an EV that we're talking about - we know nothing about the petrol engine one here.
I have been screwed by two dealers for kona service, lesson learned to agree price in advance.
They didn't even have to do anything outside the standard.
would be very interested in going to an independent garage if they were competent with EVs
Weight plate will also indicate battery size. Not every seller will want you plugging a dongle into their car.
looks like a decent price reduction for new Kona version, it was definitely over approx 44k, for the Platinum 65 when i checked a few months back:
Does anyone know why the main hyundai site does not offer the kona premium 64kw as an option but yet car dealers are selling them online?
All there on the website :

Yeah that just mentions the elegance and platinum models. But when you browse sites like carzone there's 2024 kona premium 64kw available.
