More than likely it goes to an incinerator, like the vast majority of plastic.
Not an argument but, a serious delay in Aldi - machine outside and stopped working so, had to go in store to get assistance - shop assistant came out to see the machine wasn't working (just as I had told them it wasn't) and then went in to get someone else to come fix it. They restarted the machine but, I asked for my previous receipt, I was told to come into the store as a manager needed to do this. Manager told me they had to check the CCTV (presumably to confirm I was at the machine) then they headed to the machine and ran the receipt for me - no exaggeration, it took 15 minutes - I DRS at Tesco now, when the machine fails (which it often does) Customer Care fix it quick.
Imagine tho, checking the CCTV over a few cent.
It is all a big secret as to how much money Return have in the bank.
Who do they think they are ?
The public and the minister have a right to know this information

As if Ossian couldn't find out. He already knows. Panto stuff while the deposit kitty builds up. Laughable carry on.
Imagine bringing two bottles on a 10,000 mile journey just to get the refund. And then writing to the Minister with the tale of his odyssey.

Imagine charging a deposit to people who are leaving the country.
Reading this on RTE.ie shows that the plastic bottles collected by Return may not be recycled…
TLDR: As the caps and bottles are different plastics they need to be separated mechanically/by hand to be recycled.
It is a short opinion piece, and I did read it. I can see no reference to separating caps from bottles by hand?
Although RTE did insert a couple of graphics relating to Re-Turn into the piece, it has nothing to do with our scheme.
Its a valid question regarding Re-Turn.
Are we recycling caps and bottles separately or is it all recycled together to make lower grade recycled plastic?
The only way it definitely has nothing to do with Re-Turn is if the plastic collected is being incinerated or dumped. Do you know something we dont?
Since we have no idea of where the plastic goes after its baled up in Limerick how can we know. So it's disputed.
Saying this has nothing to do with our DRS is not true. At present no-one knows.
This link describes a cap removal and recycling process
https://earth911.com/recycling-guide/how-to-recycle-plastic-caps-lids/
Very suspect! Somebody doesn't want us to know how the process works…😄
Well that's unfortunate 😊
I'll update later.
It's back now.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Of course it has something to do with our scheme. What happens to the bottles and caps that are collected by Return? Are they recycled.
I didn't think I'd need to explain my addition of by hand. Either you have the means to remove them mechanically or you would have to do it by hand. You do know that some recycling is sorted by hand right?
Is there anyone who knows if there's a re-turn return station on the south side of Dublin that is accessible for wheelchairs? I would like not to keep looking for and ask store staff to help.
I think the best people to ask would be Re-Scam themselves. Email them. They might answer.
Maybe someone on the Dublin City or South County Dublin forums could help.

I was in Tesco this morning and I noticed that their own brand one litre Soda Water has come down in last few days from 69 cents to 65 cents. Still not matching Aldi 59 cents. Plus 25 cent deposit of course.
The CPI for September shows Mineral and Spring Waters up 5.7% in the 12 months. Soft Drinks 2.6%. Showing no effect in the overall from the supposed "opportunity" taken by the supply chain to sneak in big increases along with DRS. The big shocker in the Food & Non Alcoholic drinks category is Olive Oil 21.3%. Milk and Butter have increased very recently, so that will be reflected in the figures as time goes on as well.

I see a DRS machine is the latest addition to the Fair City set.
Greyhound bins are imposing a price increase of €2.99 a month, citing “changes in nationwide recycling processes” among the factors contributing to the price increase.
The article notes recycling companies in Ireland will lose €15m in revenue annually as a result of DRS. These losses are now being passed on to the public.
We need to bring waste management completely back under state control.
Surely the waste companies should be reducing their chargrs, since they are not collecting the same volume of waste anymore.
Is Leo still in it?
I'd love to see him kicking the crap out of the machine when it doesn't work 🤬🤣.
I seem to remember certain posts that bin charges would not go up, and when they did, it was questioned if DRS was the cause of it! I got a answer from a Waste Collector employee that of course its because of DRS which some posters did not like, and now we have a clear statement on the matter.
Walk into a shop and have a look at small bottles of coke, club, etc, all over 2 euro in most shops before DRS. These were almost all below 2 euro this time last year. Lucozade Zero which had it's price stamped on was 2 euro now 2.20. multipacks of most drinks contain less units etc. there are endless examples of piece rises and or/shrinkflation in the drinks side of things.
My 14 year old has noticed the increase in costs for these types of drinks - its pretty much all he used to buy in the shop yet others don't seem to want to admit it.
Plenty people were looking for proof alright. In black and white there but no doubt the same people will deflect or worse again, ignore and continue with their long held beliefs.
This is where our money is going. Paying for product placement. Never once spotted a regular recycle bin but I can't say I watch every single episode..
This was discussed when the thread started. Aluminium cans were the one thing in the bins that they got a decent return on. We were always going to end up paying for them losing that revenue stream.
Hard to argue with that. Other bin companies will follow now that havent hiked already.
Cant wait to read the stat gymnastics on how it's still the "bad binmen" robbing us and nothing to do with Re-Turn.
Remember there was absolutely no reason to take aluminium into this DRS. Besides greed of course.
Im off to buy some soda water to offset this price increase. That should cover it 🤣.
