LHR is served by the BA/AA/EI T/A JV via a daily AA 772 service. BA codeshare on the route…
Also, DFW has direct flights to SYD, BNE, AKL and MEL on either AA or QF metal. Might be a welcome alternative to the ME3 in these troubling times for the Middle East.
I’ll get off the hobby-horse now….
EI already code-shares on AA’s direct flight which is on a 772. The joint business arrangement means that revenues etc are shared on transatlantic flights.
Yes I know, but it’s currently only a summer seasonal route reportedly due to AA’s lack of airframes caused by Boeing delivery delays…
Do they? Can I earn EI points on kt? I flew it recently and there was no option to do so.
EI's partnerships seem overly complex and confusing
Yes you can, but only if booked via EI on a EI flight number
Does anyone know how SNN CDG is doing? CDG-SNN is showing on a Tuesday aswell for random dates in 2025 aswell as Thur/Sun. Just wondering could they ever increase it to 3 weekly?
To each their own. I can't imagine many things worse than extending the already 23-hour journey to Melbourne by another five hours in the air – plus the trip to US pre-clearance.
+ 1. Agree on this
Capacity should be there to increase it. I think the frame just sits at SNN if it isn’t flying to Paris. The other A321 goes to LHR every day in between BOS/JFK flights.
Its mentioned elsewhere that EI are looking at SNN ORD seasonal service. Has anyone else heard anything?
Would have thought PHL more likely, I know both ORD & PHL are AA hubs but UA are on ORD already.
Maybe theres more demand for ORD. EI did SNN ORD years ago aswell
Will 2025 be the year we see Aer Lingus expand at MAN and launch ORD and BOS maybe?
Its just one 321 thats free so unless its 3/4 weekly each highly unlikely. Unless they just do one route.
When is the rumoured second destination potentially being announced ?
This might have come up already but does anyone else find the days EI fly to Vegas a bit odd, especially the Saturday flight? Is there a reason that these days were picked as arriving into Vegas on a Saturday evening kind of goes against the weekend in Vegas mantra! The Saturday flight lands around 1700 and it could easily be 2 hours before you even make it to the hotel and some of them have long lines to check in so that could be another hour.
Every night is Saturday night in Vegas! When I was there, you couldn't distinguish 4am from 4pm in the casinos on any given day of the week...as the crowds, gamblers, music, entertainment, lights, buzz etc were constant!
I don't think anyone flying from Ireland to Vegas would travel 8000kms for just a weekend, would they? I'd imagine a 4 night minimum...
You might have the weekend to Vegas gang but you would have more of the going to Vegas for a convention gang which would start on a Sunday/Monday. Swings and roundabouts I guess!
To be honest, I may have gone there for two nights in the past, but that's another story!! But yeah you are not wrong, everynight is a party night there but you do know when it's the weekend as it's a lot busier. The last time I was there it was for CES during the week and left on the Sunday and everynight had the majority of the shows on, and the hotels were not as expensive. Still, it's great to see a direct route as it makes it a lot easier to handle the trip.
The OP is right, the weekends in Vegas, especially Saturday's are MUCH busier, you can be waiting a few hours to check in to your hotel, especially with check in times generally being 3/4pm. I have been in a queue for more than an hour to check in on a Friday early evening (Aria), but on a Tuesday similar time checked in with 10 minutes (Venetian)
Anyway, direct flight EI have is too long for me. I'd sooner do one connection via somewhere like IAH or MSP
would a flight to IAH not be the same amount of time though? Checked flight times from London (serves both direct) and they’re similar
Not too far off actually, it's a really nice place to visit though 😁
Ok But flying from Ireland via IAH to Vegas means 2 transit stops as there are no direct flights to Houston. Surely that starts getting very cumbersome and riskier when factoring in potential transfer delays etc? I'm just back from a 10 hour to and from SFO and was not looking forward to it...but it was surprisingly fine. 2 movies, 2 meals, an hour of reading and an hour of dozing and didn't notice the time really at all. Give me a direct option any day.
On a side note, return to DUB from SFO was only less than half full. Quite a few empty middle section 4 seaters. Having the extra space and leg room probably enhanced my journey experience. I thought Ireland's solitary direct service to SFO would have higher load factors?
I spend a lot of time in England so it would be one connection.
I find it quite difficult to sleep unless i'm pissed which i try and avoid at all costs………
Anyway, i digress, i wonder what load factor will be like on that route. If they could get to 90%(and 90%in bus) it will be viable.
It is not the load factor that determines viability, it is the yield. They could send a plane over daily at €10 a ticket and fully fill it each day but it would lose them a fortune.
I am sure they have crunched the numbers and will see quickly how well it is doing.
Re SFO load, I had that in an ORD flight recently. Great for me. I asked the staff about it and they said very unusual. You sometimes get days like that but very rare. From what I have heard SFO is a cash cow.
SFO has been a huge success, good premium loads and good cargo and high load factor in J. There was talk of going to 10 weekly before COVID.
SFO is normally full. But from time to time you’ll get quiet days! Like any route. I’ve been on a 105 with less than 100 people before!
so 4 320’s and 1 330 due to leave the fleet now
Obvious why SFO a success(SV) and yield probably excellent. We are a hub for tech companies here, always pax flying back and forth, SFO would cover, any connections to San Jose, LA etc
