We're talking about "soldiers" which have deliberately slaughtered tens of thousands of civilians in a killing rage over the past 12 months. Firing at armed men - even if peacekeepers - that might shoot back is probably the bravest thing they have done in that time. Unarmed kids are more their style.

Just to add to my reply. If you're Issac Wilson from Co. Down you identify the IRA as a terrorist organisation, and you see the the Palestinian liberation movements as the same.
Meanwhile the IDF are the defenders of people rightly settled there, in 'Issac's view. Colonialism is viewed differently, depending which side of it you're on.
And it's bring both sides together and finding the middle ground, the two state solution, which is the aim of moderates on all sides.

Where someone stands on the Israeli/Palestinian question usually comes down to the following.
If you're from a settler, planter background and also take a lot of the Bible literally you'll be pro Israel. Britain, so much of the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand.
If you harbour present day, or historic grievances over plantation, expulsion, exclusion from education, professions and so on you'll favour Palestine. Like the majority of Irish people.
This isn't news, however, it's remarkable how clearly the division seems to be, along the lines mentioned.
