Murph just doesn't add a lot in general. A lot of his interjections are irrelevant and ignored.
I like Murph, there's more to this podcast than just soccer.
Which I know is popular blah blah blah
Really wish Murph wasn't allowed on the soccer pod. He brings nothing to it except useless interruptions, which aren't funny in the slightest. Surprised he hasn't been offered an RTE comedy show yet actually, he's about the level they usually go for.
Only thing that annoys me about Murph is how he takes the longest route possible to ask a question. Apart from that, I think the 3 of them (and Branno to an increasing extent) work excellent with each other
Yeah, I'm a fan. I like the patter between the lads cause they're actually friends and know each other so well. The interruptions can be like a shallow stabbing in your brother's flesh. Probably too much but the bond is deeper so you get over it. It pushes the entertainment.
I love Ken, he's by far the best thing in the show but Ken on his own would be awful. Just listen to some of the bad politics pods. He needs to think he's talking to them.
And I would say Murph is more rounded than Ken, anytime Ken talks anything other than soccer it's usually nonsense (enjoyable nonsense, but still nonsense)
Murph generally has a well thought out and interesting take on a sport that wouldn't be his main interest.
The first week was bearable but last week was just poor.
I like Murph in smallish doses.
His timing can be bad at times and often interrupts the other lads, and when he does he often talks for too long which totally kills the natural flow of the conversation.
For example, he often interjects with witty jibes but, rather then leave it at that, he then goes on to unnecessarily explain the jibe in detail.
Sally didn’t appear to be willing to say anything negative about Hezbollah. I was hoping she might give some insight on the murder of Irish soldier Seán Rooney by members of the Islamist group and what has happened with that case since. Was it even mentioned?
They were like buns to an elephant!
She is probably more focused on staying alive currently in fairness.
As was mentioned in the podcast, she's over there since January and regularly writes articles for the Irish Times.
I thought she is there generally to write a book but maybe I picked that up wrong.
I'm confident it's possible to both work on a book and be a newspaper correspondent at the same time.
The reason I pay my subscription is to get a break from the world’s horrors for a short period. I really don’t need to hear Branno’s take on the Middle East.
I really don’t need to hear Branno’s take on the Middle East.
Simple - don't listen.
You pay your subscription to get access to all of their podcasts, nothing more.
Thanks, I didn’t
I’m aware how subscriptions work. I said why I pay it
I don't think anyone should ever come into any podcast or show with the expectation that every single episode is going to be up their street… love the politics ones myself (and would actually love more of them), but I'm not a big rugby fan, so i tend to fast forward a lot of the rugby ones. I'm quite grand with them still doing the rugby pods though, because their audience is larger than myself, and what I get from the rest of the pods is more than worth the few quid a month.
I wonder will Dian Fanning still be on the pod now that he's turned up on the Joe Molloy one. The only thing that makes international week bearable is Ken's chats with Dion & Gavin Cooney.
Dion is like Ken if Ken had no sense of humour
People complain about Thornley but give me a thousands shows with him over Dion’s sourness for literally everything in existence.
Also having not listened to it yet I’m 100% sure Branno’s take on Zionists trying to start WW3 by committing repeated genocides is entirely valid and correct.
Ruaidhri O’Connor was on earlier in the week so it doesn’t seem that the Indo is stopping its journalists appearing on other podcasts
Slightly hung over Ken on his travels. Excellent.
Not a fan of Dion myself, don't think he adds anything and he's quite dour
Be great if they could get Dan McDonnell, find him very good when he's on OTB
….<edit - wrong thread>
Daniel McDonnell is brilliant.
I suppose a late night pod today is out of the question? I'm not going to stop subscribing if there isn't or anything. Or even give out. I'd just like one after that.
Richie's in good form on telly anyway.
Think I remember them saying there would be a late night reaction pod alright. Here's hoping!
The good times are back, time to book an Air BnB in Boston for 2026
