Stupid question, but why was this bullock cut 12cents?
Because he graded an O+ for conformation on the grid. If he was an O= he would have been cut 18 and cut 24 if an O-.
Is 5e the general run of bullocks this week?... I don't have a full load. There's 11 to go here.
510 I'm thinking
Thanks. New to finishing and mixing myself up between bord bia in spec bonuses and the grid.
I heard 5.10
I was offered 5.35 flat for a small bunch of mixed quality, 5.40 for the breeds with the bonus.
It depends on where you are, being near a factory is no advantage unless there is 5-6 around you. 5/5.05 if you have smallish numbers especially if plain stock is all that is available locally unless you are willing to put them on a truck and travel.
Two ABP and a Dawn plant. They sing from.the same hymm sheet
Yea, definitely, most of the time it's take what you're given and be thankful for it.
I'm getting a decent flat rate because they know I have the cattle ready and they are stuck this week, so I can push harder.
Thing's would be different if I was calling them.
Most plants in the West on €5.00 [blk] & € 5.05 [h] from what I am hearing
That's all I can get.
Watching the ennis mart here. Am I missing something but is there 2 rings selling bull weanlings? Ring 1 & 3 and then heifers in ring 2?!
Does that answer your question @stationmaster
Sound! I couldn't figure out watching it! A lot of the weights/breeds etc were very similar when bulls were being sold in both rings at the same time and I was wondering was it worse for the seller as the buyers were split?
This 400e diffential between Ireland and UK price is serious. The factories taking the P÷@÷ now. Larry won't be long recouping the 200 odd million he paid Bert for Slaney.
The farm organisations should take the fight to the UK buyers of Irish beef that would soften the factories cough. I don't want to hear replies 'that will damage our UK trade'. It actually won't because Irish beef has been on UK shelves for donkeys and used as a tool to keep the UK prices suppressed. Time to think outside the box.
It's the difference between worthwhile and not worthwhile for a lot of people.
Not much point worrying about the trade being damaged if keeping it the same is a big problem
Wasn't that king ago it was 250 a head difference.
Yes it was about that, it's gone beyond a joke now. It's corporate greed at its best. Beef plan in bed with them fir a few cent every load, so you won't hear a word from them.
Kepak athleague killing cattle 2mro saturday .Never heard of them killing on a saturday before.
The answer is cheap cattle for the UK. I heard 80% is going there now. Uk have a reduced slaughter. Madness how they getting away with paying a poxy 5e.
Last time Saturday kills happened was eu intervention cattle and we all know what happened with those.
Why are the UK down on cattle and will this be reversed? Is there any danger of some other country’s supplying them?
Going forward for the future what do you think the base price will settle at this time of the year? It’s not too long ago if 4e was got people would be happy, will 5e be the new 4e? With the rise of costs it will have to be and possibly more
80% of heifers and steers going into the UK market. If you allow for custom & admin charges of 50e and 100e as transport costs. That's been conservative. 350e is left and allow you selling at a less price than UK price. 250e and the standard margin that's already there whether your plant is UK or Irish, that's one hell of a profit for both the supermarket and the processor.
Costs of finishing cattle are massive incomparable to pre Ukraine war. I feel 5e is the old 3.80. Where the price settles in in the hands of the big processors, they set the price and we are price takers. Factories have recruited finishers since the strikes taking the power out of farmers hands.
I know two agents from two different plants who are very experienced and would finish cattle themselves. They never commit to a cattle price because simply they are never told. The closest I got to getting a picture was 9 months in advance. I was buying cattle out of a farm and made contact with a senior meat executive by chance. His prediction for the nine months were spot on.
Anyone know if Roscommon sales are available on-line still? Is it on today?
What were his predictions?
They can predict nine months in advance how hard they're going to ride us?
With 450kg fresian bullocks making well over e1000 how can a profit be made.?
Shipper buying every friesan in sight.
Yes but what does the farmer take then to stock up?
Agree, just bide your time, value to be got. There's poor done continental cattle around 350kgs that looks value. Probably better than friesans in the long run.
Yes thats all that can be done.I have never seen the problem so bad . At least there is nothing lost. Money still in bank
Oh its very bad alright, I heard they have monitors installed in the office and buying anything fleshy, a lorry is sent to the mart that evening. You couldn't complete with that.
There's going to be a scarcity of cattle next year with processors killing everything they can get their hands on and shippers exporting 2nd grade cattle with big orders.
There's some amount of cattle being shipped out...... and there's going to be less births next year from both beef and dairy
Breed them yourself
