Starting to do window shopping, was curious is anyone here has experience of the following perks , have a 221 ID3 Family, lane assist/rear camera/keyless unlock/matrix headlights are my really liked features. Anything else anyone finds amazing and 'worth it' ? 1) Area view, parking assist ?
2) (I forget the name) The fancy travel assist, i.e one up from lane assist.
3) Lumbar support
4) 'Discover Pro' navigation ? is this more than what my ID3 has ?
1, 2 & 3 are excellent. I only have area view though, not parking assist.
Agree with this, the area view is dead handy when parking. The biggest issue is remembering you aren't playing some flash game and the stake for game over are a bit higher
Travel Assist is brilliant for long motorway drives. Not really able to handle country roads but since most long journeys consist of both road types it'll take the work out for a big chunk. It's also good for traffic jams, can set a low speed and it'll start and stop with the car in front. ACC does that to but you need to handle the steering
Lumbar support is good if you need it, but pointless otherwise
Discover Pro is just the maps I think, can't remember exactly. As I recall it means you get the map updates included and don't need to pay a seperate subscription
I'm really confused about what 'travel assist' does in addition to lane keeping. I've searched for videos online but it just talks about ACC / lane assist and road sign detection etc which I already seem to have in id3.
Paying for subscription maps ? Never heard of this, is the map thing now a subscription ?
Okay so lane keeping stops you leaving the lane unintentionally, but doesn't do anything to follow the lane
So if you came to a bend and didn't steer (don't try this) the lane keeping would intervene when you got too close to the lines and steer to keep you on the line
But it's a safety system rather than a driving aid, if you tried to use it like an autopilot you'd end up ping ponging around the lane with the car screaming alerts at you
Travel Assist is much more of a driver aid, it'll proactively steer to maintain the position within the lane. Basically on a motorway, it'll follow the motorway around bends and such. Combined with ACC it'll also match speed with the car in front
In general Travel Assist seems to try and maintain the lane position from when it was started, if you're slightly to the right or left then you'll stay there. This is in contrast to Tesla Autopilot which will try to stick rigidly to the centre of the lane. Sometimes on suboptimal Irish roads it can be better to be slightly off centre I find
It can also do other things, like if it sees a bend ahead it might slow down to safely take the bend. The newer cars can also do lane changes to overtake, although you have to give it the okay first
It's important to remember that it isn't autonomous driving. For example if you're coming to your exit Travel Assist won't exit the motorway for you, you need to switch it off and do that yourself
One other thing to remember is that the thing can't see traffic jams in the distance. If you're doing the famous M7 120 to 0 sudden traffic then you'll want to take over and brake earlier, otherwise the car might leave it to the last moment
Another thing I've noticed is that the Lane keeping (Lane Assist) seems a lot better in cars with Travel Assist. Just noticed that the posters here who have it don't complain about the lane warning beeping nearly as much
Regarding the subscription thing, VW (and others) have been trying to sell customers on monthly subscriptions for years now. Unsurprisingly, no-one goes for it so they tend to end up just including the add on packages as standard
If the cars were significantly cheaper without the subscription then it might be worthwhile, but it's still a €35-40k car at the end of the day. Asking for €30 per month or something on top is a bit much
@the_amazing_raisin perfect, thanks for that. I have used lane assist only to ping pong around on an empty motorway. It's almost like VW have a lovely price ladder im tempted to climb
Price ladder should be the company motto 😂
Is it just me or does the online configurator not allow you to choose option packages?
If not, what’s the point?
It should be at the end, but I think some of the packages don't always show up for some reason
At the end of the day the configuration is only an indicator of price, not an actual order
Well folks, options for the ID.3.
Panoramic roof. Assume it’s fixed. Much point? Driver probably doesn’t get much benefit?
Heat pump? How much more efficient is it compared to “normal” heating?
Can't comment on the heat pump but I've the panoramic roof on my ID.4
You're correct, it doesn't open so you can't stick your head out the top unfortunately
Admittedly you don't get the full effect up the front, but it does open the car up a lot and make it a much brighter space
On the flip side, it can get very bright and warm in the car so you might find yourself using the sun shade. This is particularly true if you've kids as they'll probably moan about the sun in their eyes
At the end of the day it's a luxury, doesn't functionally improve the car. At €1700 or so it's up to you whether it's worth it. Personally I'd go for it again, but I'd probably drink a few whiskeys afterwards to help forget how much it cost
I wouldn’t bother with either. Would go for other options first.
Only other options are Bicycle Carrier Preparation and Type 2 Charging Cable.
Slim pickings.
which version are you getting? It has matrix lights. HUD travel assist etc?
I deliberately chose not to get a model with the panoramic roof on our MY22. Most of them had it standard at the time. Just seemed like something likely to decrease the solidity of the car. Also heard reports of squeaks. Plus my bald head doesn’t like the sun. 😝
VW Ireland have updated the ID.3 brochure. The first one was dated 1/10/24 and the new one is 3/10/24. The new one adds two "Pure" models, with the lowest-priced one selling for €33K. The GTX prices remain as they were.😎
Good news about the gtx, I have a build week of 47
which trim level of 1st do you have and what value did they give for it?
Sent you a PM
and 1st dealer advertising GTX Performance Plus, just a little above the list price including Kings Red paint option:
https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/volkswagen-id-3-gtx-performance-plus-79kw-326bhp/38080140
Well I guess we know how much the Paddy tax it, same car in Germany costs just under €30k because VW will give a discount of around €3750 or something to German buyers
Your post made me go look at the VW.de site and how the hell is the GTX Performance still cheaper in Ireland. I still do not understand it even as you call it the PADDY TAX doesn't seem to be there on this model.
edit: Unless the spec is different on the Irish model. Didn't look into it enough to find out.
I don't get it either, even when you subtract the VW discount it's still more expensive than here
As far as I can tell the spec of the Irish one is actually better since it includes the assistance pack as standard (and also floor mats, I'm still shocked they're an extra)
Regarding the Pure, I did a quick comparison and didn't spot any major differences. It is pretty bare bones as far as trim goes, but I guess that's what you'd expect for the price
It's worth noting that a lot of the add on packs aren't available for the Pure, like the matrix headlights or interior package. It makes sense I guess, although personally I'd say the extra €1300 for the Pure Plus is worthwhile to get the heated seats and steering wheel
I was getting the electrical drive error but suddenly during the week it disappeared and hasnt some back since but if it does reappear it it something that would fail an NCT which I think we are due to do by the end of next year
Just had a first chat with my dealer. Offering €2k below the GMFV, which just means I’ll get the GMFV.
This is on an immaculate car with only 36,000kms on the clock.
Very disappointing. Are any of you on PCPS getting offers above the GMFV?
I'd personally be very tempted to put it up on done deal at a couple of thousand over the GMFV
Best case scenario, you come away with an extra few thousand and someone gets a good deal. Worst case, you can accept a bid of GMFV and someone still gets a good deal by cutting out the dealership
Is the GTX, with the 77kWh battery, definitely a 5 seater?
The 77kWh variant of the ID.3 1st was a 4 seater only so just want to be sure it has been upgraded to a 5 seater before wasting time looking at it
no. We gave back car under half rule as no mileage penalty. Car cost us 6 k a year in depreciation but saved us over 3 k a year in fuel. Not too bad in the end.
Yes the 77kw is a 5 seater. They upgraded the rear axle and its now a five seater. It's explained in a video on you tube.
Hi Liam. If you could, can you send on the details also? Thanks.
