Following on from main thread in Current Affairs about Tubs in general (now closed and mod suggestion that Entertainment category is more suitable).
Indeed, entertainment in certain respects is what Tubs has provided, albeit perhaps in a way not intended. And still awaiting 150k payback to the licence fee holder.
And of course, his new career in Virgin Radio which is imminent.

A 4 billion childrens hospital in realto is not in any way remotely competent, it's treasonous
Couldn't think of much worse than Tubridy interviewing Harris. Bland platitudes. Positive spin for everything. A titantic battle of the virtue signallers.
Two cynical, ruthlessly ambitious operators having a Mother Theresa off. Spare me.
careful there you used the words "virtue signallers" - you might "trigger" Emmet 🤩 Between mehole martin mouthing off at a book launch which the corrupt media seems to have ignored by and large and harris going on tubs podcast, we are a great likely farce of a country altogether.
If the Virgin Radio gig doesn't work out and ends in December, is Tubridy hoping for a job as a press advisor with a possible FFG government after the election?
Is this latest podcast just a bit of electioneering to be followed, possibly, with Martin, Catherine Martin (minister for RTE) and perhaps O'Gorman?
Is the spike in viewers of the latest podcast just FG faithful watching their dear leader?
Regards…jmcc
I think given the audience figures for the average Tubridy podcast it’s safe to say it won’t swing the election….. It’s a bad look however for the Taoiseach to associate himself with the face of a national scandal and a name as tarnished as Tubridy’s but our political leaders are rather tone deaf at the best of times and perhaps he’s courting the voting power of South County Dublin/Wicklow and adopting a “there’s no such thing as bad publicity” approach to this.
I had, given your username, assumed you were a middle-aged man. The level of excitement conveyed in the post above however is more akin to that of a teenage girl being gifted VIP tickets to Taylor Swift, so perhaps I have misjudged on this occasion.
I do hope you’ve had a chance to watch or listen to it by now and that it delivered as much as you were expecting.
Jeez, steady on there Emmet! A search (rather than use my own words) defines a "coup" as "an instance of successfully achieving something difficult".
Looking at that Instatubridy photo that I posted on this thread regarding his first guest on The Bookshelf podcast a couple of days ago, one can read into it anyway they wish, but for me I cannot help but to see an image of Tubridy oozing with smugness especially towards RTE and as if to say look who I have in my corner. I don't particularly care if other posters on Boards.ie disagree with my take on it, I firmly believe RTE is a bought organisation and all Tubridy needs to do is to keep a FFG Taoiseach onside as a major stepping stone to getting his cushy job back, as he doesn't care much for that London gig on VRUK and you can bet NewsUK will dispose of him at some point.
Or basically they work in marketing, which is where who fail to get into a psychology course go.
Think that D'Arcy studied psychology in Maynooth and is still in RTE. Tubridy didn't and isn't.
I think it was Trinity D'Arcy went to. He used to bring it up a lot on the show.
Not a fan of the podcast. But I belive it is 13th in the Irish Spotify charts. Might just be because of this weeks guest.
TBH I find the first two choices more cynical. One a Dahl book were Tubs can gush over Harris for selecting his beloved Roald Dahl. The second one lets Harris talk about why he got in to politice initally and talk about his brother.
Say Nothing probably a good choice for a little SF bashing. But it is always very well written and researched. As well as being one of the best Non Fiction books in the last five years and the recipient of much critical aclaim.
Thanks.
I wasn’t even aware there was a Spotify Podcast Chart (I’m not a Spotify subscriber). Does this chart give audience figures, listens/downloads, or any useful audience demographic figures - would be interesting to see those but I assume Spotify keep that data for themselves and advertisers. At least with YouTube you can see how many people have watched for example.
Also, is 13th his usual ranking for these, or an outlier (either up or down).
And is this chart like a lot of popular charts where the Top 3-5 account for 90% of the total number, and anything below that is separated by single digit metrics?
Apologies for all the questions - and appreciate you may not have any answers, just not au fait with Spotify.
No apology neccessary there Peter, have asked questions in other threads like that, " silly questions " but I won't apologize for proferring them.
Just like Joe Duffy. Perhaps Tubridy wasn't posh enough for Trinners? :)
Depressing? Horrifying more like.
There really is no accounting for taste. I feel dumber after reading that list tbh.
Thanks for the reply though, much appreciated. Though in hindsight, I wish I hadn’t asked!
I wish I hadn't answered.
But it must be a kick in the teeth to see Nathan Carter ahead of you in the podcast charts.
That chart is a real insight into Ireland isn’t it? “rural Ireland” represented on one side with The 2 Johnnies, Nathan Carter, and the I am Delicious guy on one side, and D4 represented by Doireann, Tubridy, and Vogue on the other.
I can’t imagine who would possibly want to listen to any of those personally, but it does appear there is a market for this low-involvement fluff.
I feel we can’t be too far away from a Marty Morrissey podcast at this stage.
They look like Clontarf chiropractors.
Or an aging boyband…..like a posh version of BoyzLife (not sure if that’s the correct spelling, I’m of course referring to the Keith Duffy and Bryan McFadden amalgamation).
I see Harris has opted for jeans to give that more down to earth, everyman look. It really doesn’t suit him tbh, would look much smarter and dare I say more professional in trousers/chinos etc.
Neither man looks terribly relaxed in that photo though.
If ever there was an advertisement against FFG, there it is
very disappointing, Tubs isn’t pointing at him.
It looks like his right hand is holding his left hand back from Pointing.
Same hairdressers too.
May I ask as to what the rather pointed references to pointing relate to? Does Ryan have a tendency to point in pictures or at people or something like that?
He used to point the finger a lot in photos, It’s like his way of saying, hey, look, I'm with this big star here.
Enjoy
These are all Irish based podcasts. Some UK ones would have a lot more listeners than them. The Overlap would easily beat most of them. Bit clever of them not to put on exact listening figures, very convenient for everyone.
