Starting a thread for 2025 gigs as they'll likely start rolling in.
I'll arbitrarily throw in Rob Beckett playing the Olympia on the 26th September 2025 which went on sale today.
The Arctic Monkeys and Fontaines ain't heading to Thurles or Ennis. But music fans in either town would surely consider travelling an hour or less to see them in Limerick rather than the trek to Dublin or Belfast. Those acts that would play an 11k arena in Belfast would also do an 11k arena in Limerick. Logistically three dates on this island makes more sense for them than one or two.
A third Irish show for a UK acts is a hell of a lt more appealing than a gig in Belgium, Luxembourg, etc. Brexit innit!
The Lowlands are a hell of a lot more bureaucratic and expensive for those acts since January 2020.
You brought Ennis and Thurles to the table and come on those acts are too big.
Examples; OCS could have easily done 4 dates particularly with Kula Shaker on board but opted to repeat the Olympia and do Belfast and not bring them as they don't need them to sell there that's kinda what I mean.
The Libertines could've played to more there recently than fits Cyprus Avenue.
sure live nation/mcd are going to be running cork events centre if it opens. I’d be doubtful of their ability to program it and selling it out on a weekly basis with acts of international calibre. I think they be relying on Irish and uk acts to keep the lights on. live nation/mcd will be competing with themselves, why put an act in cork and make barely any money whilst they can put them in 3 arena for another night and make a lot more money.
This is what I'm saying. No surprise re Cork pure monopoly but as it does not happen without and that's where we are elsewhere.

Fontaines playing to 13k in Dublin in December.
Both would play an 11k venue in the west or south.
The demographic numbers are there. The audience is there. When people go in big numbers to nights at LATM, GIAF, Galway Airport, King John's Castle, Thomond Park, Pearse Stadium, Pairc Ui Chaoimh, Musgrave Park, etc then they will also go to other stuff outside of the Summer months.
And if people will travel to Dublin for gigs then they'll certainly head to somewhere a lot closer.
In fairness the INEC in Killarney has a capacity of 4,100 but looks pretty empty bar the run upto / after Christmas.
I guess the fact it's not an MCD / Live Nation venue does itself no favours but even still, a modern venue with a (small) airport beside it and relatively unused.
I'd be skeptical of a 10k venue anywhere outside Dublin / Belfast, sure it would be filled on occasions but I doubt the economics add up, otherwise LiveNation would already have their shovels there, because, let's be honest they don't seem to miss a monetization trick

I don't disagree. It's more a case of balance, same with Galway Arts. By all means put on some crap but please reserve a couple of spots for decent acts. The bland stuff is also relentlessly recycled and surprises are rare. The lack of variety in the last few years is not impressive.
decent acts don’t sell out 5,000 tickets in cork or the ones that do won’t accept the fee such a venue can offer. LATM is to sell tickets, it’s not to curate an exciting cutting edge line up that loses Aiken a ton of money.
standing €77.55 inc fees, seated €5 more, they are also defaulting to collector tickets for another €5, but easily removed, think they will struggle to fill Both nights, at that price point.

Whilst I wouldn't be a SM or TFF fan myself, that's a nice interesting start for Trinity, some contrast to the Marquee announcements

When is the marquee finishing up? I recall talks of it ending during covid but it's still limping on. Is the site not sold?
In the past three years the following have all sold between 3,500 to 5,000 tickets in Galway - Pixies (three gigs), Flaming Lips, Pavement, Kneecap, Waterboys, Two Door Cinema Club, Sineád O'Connor, Madness/Lightning Seeds, Leftfield, The Stunning/Something Happens and Jon Hopkins. And that's with more conventional curation post-lockdown,
I refuse to believe that they couldn't sell the same number of tickets in a city three times the size.
That's what happened with us this Summer..great week .
I dunno man, Cork is weird when it comes to gigs. When i lived there i couldn't figure out what people actually wanted to go and see. I'd be very surprised if some of those acts pulled the same numbers you mention for Galway.

the waterboys played the marquee last year, sinead o’Connor was suppose to back in 2022 and then cancelled it after her child died. For last few years the pixies europe run was too late for LATM. August this year and mid July Back in 2022 when they did Galway and iveagh. The likes of Jon hopkins had festival exclusivity here the last few summers. And some of those only work with MCD so nothing aiken can do to book them.
yeah and at least there for another 2 years and can easily be extended
