Starting a thread for 2025 gigs as they'll likely start rolling in.
I'll arbitrarily throw in Rob Beckett playing the Olympia on the 26th September 2025 which went on sale today.
As I stated above I don't know Tipperary very well but Thurles has two venues with regular gigs. Ennis has one with smaller venues throughout the county.
My suggestion was for a large venue within reach of several cities and counties to cater for the west and south of the country. It's a large enough demographic and I suggested Limerick (or close by) as a central area within easy reach of the second, third and fourth cities in the country. It's 60 mins from Thurles and 40 mins from Ennis, not a slog to do a return trip for either. Coaches from towns and cities could also get put on if an act was a big enough draw. For people who can't, or don't wish to, travel to Dublin or Belfast it'd be a helluva lot easier to get to see big touring acts.
Damien Rice announed Jan & Feb 2025 tour dates in Australia & NZ this week, so is likely to be playing live here next year.
His last Ireland gig was 2019 in Cork, at Sounds From A Safe Harbour Festival. and his last Dublin gig was 2015 at Iveagh Gardens.
Wikipedia as a source? Or the London Evening Standard and the company that did the security, health & safety for the venue?
Oh boy that would be awesome. They were so good in the 3Arena a few years back. Alison Moyet supported who was also brilliant.
Would be perfect for Forest Fest as well.
Hearing rumours of Tears For Fears , Trinity Series, July 3rd 🤞
the acts control themselves and sure if your an international band who can sell thousands of tickets in the south west of ireland then you probably have 30 promoters across europe and america chasing you for availability to play and make them money. A second or third Irish show in the south isn’t going to be as appealing as a mainland europe show in Belgium, the Netherlands or France
You clearly don't know Tipperary very well Ennis can mostly only be accessed on public transport via Limerick.
From Thurles you'd be in Dublin by train quicker than you would to the South of the county using the same method as you've to change at Limerick junction! Ya wild!
Nathan Carter and a bunch of cover bands isn't quite what I'd mean by touring acts nor reason to think something like 10k is warranted.
People would just love like an around 2k venue where a tour stop can be made it doesn't have to be even go too big. The 6k venue in Cork is ambitious enough as it is.
The promoters control the acts though and the are obviously well versed with the squeeze Dublin gives them I'd guess they are unwilling to delve into the unknown to ventures with no guarantee of success.
Yes. He got the crowd on side by doing Oh! Darling.
Was that the one where Tom Odell supported? If so it was a fantastic gig alright.
€82.10 to stand. And that was a really unique chance to see an indoor show here.
The O2 seated capacity is only 15-16k, standing layout capacity is 20k.
Look at the Pollstar guide, it lists all the attendances per venue per year.
Madonnas run at the O2 last year, all seated
O2 is the third largest for seating, not overall capacity. If you see the 20k figure it's for seating only. London Standard article:
The company who did the security, health and safety planning at the Dome/O2:
The figures for Prince's run of shows at the venue:
It doesn't matter what feels or appears bigger. The Dome has a greater capacity. For now anyway.
Have you seen the prices, they are just nuts, almost no tickets under £150.
I cant remember what I paid to see him at the point , think it was ~80 euro.
I don’t know Tipperary well but the Dome and Source Arts in Thurles have regular gigs. Same with Glór in Ennis and smaller venues throughout Clare. There’s an audience for this music in those, and neighbouring counties. Would they be willing to travel for larger gigs in a purpose-built arena?
It didnt, its still 20k at full standing capacity, might get more in there with a small stage in the round.
O2 full seated capacity is only ~15-16k.
Having said that the Principality has a roof! ( think the one at Wembley offers only partial coverage)
It is. It was the largest arena in Europe for a long time. I attended the then largest attendance Ice Hockey match in Europe over 2 decades ago. That attendance was well over 20k. The O2 is the 3rd largest indoor arena in the UK
Re open Millstreet …. 😁
Eurovision and Pearl Jam …..
Doubtful to have the scope for 10k though.
Venues that are barely tipping 500 let alone 3k, no venue in Clare or Tipperary reeling in touring acts at all let alone on a regular basis.
AO is 2k smaller by capacity. More floorspace at the O2. New Co-op trumps both and has standing for 9,300 people
All the aforementioned areas have venues. None have one that would offer the option of bigger acts for non-Summer events.
Kerry actually has a 3k venue and I don't believe you'd be calling for a scale up at a glance, appears mostly a hub for comedians and the one man guitar pouring his smelly soul out.
Having been to both those big sheds the MEN is bigger than the O2 I'd have thought.
It's always been 23k. The lower number is the seating capacity.
Not Cork but a venue for Limerick/Cork/Galway/Clare/ Kerry/Tipperary, as per a pretty clear post. A potential demographic to match that of the capital. Thus a capacity of 10k plus to attract those acts that don't currently do the south or west.
The country is actually the United Kingdom. Be out the door on pointless fairly sharply to claim otherwise.
Londons where the head of state resides, Scotland had everything to do with changing that and remained. Okay this is definitely not needed in this thread.
It was just for swift accuracy within the posters initial question...sure every tour goes to London...what have I got myself into now?!
Aberdeen even has an arena option over Edinburgh which is gas and gas and oil arena it was called at least at one stage.
acts that can sell 14k in Dublin won’t do more than 5k in cork or thereabouts. It’s hard enough for promoters to get big international artists for one night in Dublin in 14k venue, not going to get a lot to do smaller venue in cork area/Munster region. You don’t get a ton of international acts doing Belfast and dublin, it’s usually one night in ireland. you’ll get more Irish and uk acts maybe but that’s it.
When did the O2 go from 20k to 23k?
That's only 6k if I'm right? Not enough to grab most acts that play the arenas in Dublin and Belfast.
Hence I suggested somewhere larger within reasonable driving distance of three cities and several counties. Will it happen? Probably not. Could it work? I believe so with a large potential demographic, cheaper accommodation and the option of driving home after the gig.
