I misinterpred what you meant at the beginninng, hence why I said 4 sides. The terrace along the sideline should be done at some stage. Yeah there is umbrellas but they block the view of others.
I see you have gone from "it should be roofed on all 4 sides" to a roof on the terrace along the sideline. Just for context, PUC cost €100m and they didn't roof behind the goals. The works proposed for Breffni aren't going to cost near that but it would definitely be tens of millions. Kildare are building a smaller overall structure with less "amenities" but the main contract there is €12.9m plus VAT. Unless the County Board has €50m available, they aren't going to be roofing the other sides of Breffni given the scale of what they have applied for planning permission for.
I'd rarely sit under the roof, like a lot of people I'm quite happy on the terrace the majority of the time. Umbrellas are useful for those who don't like getting wet. A roof over the terrace is a nice-to-have but the value of it v the cost is very questionable. The County Board has obviously decided to focus attention on the other side of the stadium.
Over 20 years since it was redeveloped ,so why would be out of the question to have a roof on the terrace along the sideline? Look at the Athletic Grounds a roof over the terrace side.
Maybe you have a grand seat in the stand but lots dont like getting wet in Breffni
When I said "put a new roof over the whole lot", I was talking specifically about the seated stand. Putting a roof around all sides would cost a fortune and have no benefit. A roof on the terrace along the other sideline would be a nice-to-have but isn't realistically going to happen for a long time.
The first rule of setting goals is to make them achievable, setting an unachievable goal for some vague notion of looking like a modern stadium is pointless.
Would agree it should be roofed on all 4 sides. Make it look like a modern stadium then focusing on one area.
Documents for Breffni are up now;
Looks way OTT. Knocking the uncovered stands either side but keeping the existing covered part. Not sure why they wouldn't save a fortune and upgrade the existing seating and put a new roof over the whole lot. Highlights include;
A handball court is fair enough but why only 1 and why make things difficult and put it on the first floor? Mens and Hens Sheds rooms are grand and help cover off the community angle but why have them in under the stadium? I have been involved in mutli use facilities and the goal was always for the various things to be able to operate independently. Mens/Hens Sheds and the Handball area should be on the perimeter and have their own entrances so the rest of the place can be locked up and not have potential for people wandering round the rest of the stadium.
No parking for team buses seems like a big miss. I don't see how you can build this in phases, it basically all has to be done in one go. Suffice to say nothing will happen.
Regarding the proposed Regional Sports Campus also mentioned in the Celt article, details are available below. Another huge project which will cost 10s of millions of € where the funding model is simply to beg all and sundry.
Planning sign i think only went up so probably 10 days before its online to view
The second picture I the article is actually a gallery which you can scroll through.
Me too!
I didn't see any pics in the link
I meant the pictures not actual architectural plans or anything like that.
Where can you see the plans?
I couldn't find them in the article.
Ide say the pricetag will take some of the flourishes off those plans but fair play to them for going with a proper main stand with modern facilities.
Breffni Park in for an Upgrade with planning submitted.

In the article from the Irish News i posted Burns says now it about getting Antrim a County Ground.
Well the Facebook post with the video said "a vision" was presented. I think everybody, including those promoting the project and those who created the video, know that STP will never be all seater. It's a promotional video, they obviously thought it better to render in nice white seats than the dirty benches/terraces that are there. It really makes no difference anyway, the level of funding attainable will not go close to doing that.
Yes it was another poster who recently said that they hate going to Thurles.
Well if they are meeting government ministers and other TDs I'd imagine it would be better for them to clarify what they realistically want to do in Clones. I get the feeling they would like to do everything shown in the video but they may get a reality check.
No it wasn't me that said that about Thurles.
That's my understanding of it. It's just a 'what's possible' video. It is by no means the final plan, that would be contingent on how much money can be raised.
double
The seats in the video are just dropped into the rendering, probably easier than doing terraces. it doesn't mean there is a genuine intention to do all the works that it would require (nevermind the fact that they wont get that kind of funding and many of the fans would prefer if terraces remained).
I thought it was you who posted; "I absolutely hate trips to Thurles which Im constantly told I have to love because of "tradition"!
Nobody is talking about all all seater? The video shows an all seater so clearly someone is. If it becomes all seater with all related redesign and necessary replacement of all the concrete to provide sufficient gradients, new floodlights, new stand, rear paved supporter zone, what appears to be offices/corporate facilities and resurfaced car park it will be expensive.
Quite an obnoxious baiting comment to suggest I hate Thurles. I only referred to being, IMO, in the wrong location, fine stadium and all as it is.
They haven't even squared off the corner between the Pat McGrane stand and the Gerry Arthurs stand.
Given that they have not had floodlights so far, then these were not urgent. However, they may find a role, for instance in Ulster club championship games or the McKenna cup.
Nobody is talking about an expensive all seater stadium in Clones but improvements are certainly needed. It will continue to host big games in Ulster for the foreseeable future.
The Casement site is terrible for a large stadium, have you ever been there (or Belfast for that matter)? You should stop projecting your hatred of Thurles onto Clones.
Agreed. Ambition needed for proper sporting facilities.
One with 3.5 sides of it open to the elements certaintly doesnt make sence.
I think Belfast will get a large stadium but even if had a similar capacity to Clones with that level of spec and cost it wold be better in the capital city. An expensive all seater stadium in Clones makes no sense.
Belfast getting anything more than a county ground is off the table now I would say.
The way football is going I'm not sure spending loads of money on a big provincial final ground is that important anyway.
By all means upgrade parts of it but that looks like a design to maintain Clones as the main provincial ground into the future. The town is far too small for such a development - another Thurles effectively. Belfast city needs to have the main ground. It appears that's what Jarlath Burns wants as well.
Yes of course, redevelopment has been talked of for a long time with nothing on paper. This is the first time we have seen an actual whole stadium proposal/plan.
The rendering is new but the plan has been in discussion for a while now.
Yeh, I agree on the pitch and seating. I think this is a pitch to get started. Final plan would probably be different.
