Feels like the right time to start a new thread for next year's gigs.
John Mayer playing the 3Arena on 29 March 2024.
Big Country (sic) in Opium tomorrow.
Not sure. I found out last night when a pal tried to get a ticket but the listing had disappeared. I’ll see them again so not all that fussed. I’m much more disappointed that a decent Dublin band can’t sell out a small-ish Galway venue.
Oh, that's gutting news. How much notice did they give?
Curfew at 10.30 so 9.15 I’d say as they’ve not got 90 mins of good material. Galway gig tonight has been cancelled. Poor ticket sales I’d guess. A pity as I was looking forward to it.
Thanks have got a sense they are getting a bit later these days
They will be on around 9pm support on at 8pm like it is for a 1000 other shows in ireland every year
Anyone seen stage times for Melts on Saturday at TBF?
Really? Any idea when tickets will go on sale?
yeah they are on same days as usual before Christmas.
No Damien Dempsey Vicar Xmas gigs announced this year. Anyone heard of anything?
Brilliant Acoustic set from last week for anyone who was at libertines this week
Bass is fantastic
Twitter @Dubfanspage
what’s the page? On insta ? Or Fb?
Was anyone caught up in that dublin gaa fan page episode with coldplay tickets?
Hes obviously a genuine fella as he has been sorting out matches for years for people to buy and swap tickets.
But why in gods name would you get involved in trying to help people for coldplay??? Apparently the one guy who claimed to have alot of tickets was a scam and had already taken money off people......the dublin fan page claims to be the middle man in putting people in touch to buy and sell....
But does anyone have an idea of how much we're talking? Like did he think one person genuinely had like 100 tickets? Are we talking about thousands of euros?
Have a level of sympathy for him but don't know why you'd put your self through it. The page just posted saying revolut can't help him
Sleep Token will be worth the trip over too
Seeing them in the New Arena in Manchester in November
Linkin Park added couple of new dates. Paris la defense arena, nov 3rd. Sunday. 40k capacity, great arena, LPs 360 stage should play well there. some reasonably priced hotels 30min walk away like melia with a great city view and roof top bar or cheap novotels/ibis. Already have tickets to sum41 there, if i buy LP i might end up single after that. Decisions, decisions...
I'm again going to be a complete loser....anyone have a spares physical ticket from libertines gig last night?
Very true. And that was for a gig that was very mixed in age, lots of teens and twenty-somethings in the pit.
Very few people with their phones out at Ride in the Olympia too, I noticed.
The Libertines were in great form last night. Top set, pretty much greatest hits with the best few from new album thrown in. Crowd were cool too and really into it, very few people watching it through their phone but living in the moment which is a nice change from some gigs this year
Great reports from Dublin and Cork. Best of luck if at the Belfast show tonight and see you at the Big Top tomorrow.
Libertines absolutely brilliant last night
Very good report in examiner of last night's gig
Feedback please if you go tonight, am seeing them on Wednesday. Hopefully four gigs in four days and a fair bit of travel won't tire them out.
👍️Olympia - "quote" from their website
For which venue? Later curfew than Limerick so Dublin or Belfast I'd assume. Hotgirl recommended btw, caught them in Galway earlier this year as support and very good.
Two support acts in Limerick, doors at 7 and over at 10.30 so I'd guess the Libertines at 9 or shortly after.
Any idea of libertines stage times? 9pm?
Looked a long set in cork last night
I very specifically stated a 4/5k venue for Dublin. Why mention 2k when that's already catered for with the National Stadium, and Vicar Street only 500 under?
Nonsense re the three-week Gaiety residency for My Therapist Ghosted Me being to gauge demand. They'd already worked that out with their lengthy Vicar Street run. The demand for that would perfectly suit a few nights at a more intimate 4/5k venue rather than the cavernous 3Arena.
A mid-range venue of that size can easily attract enough acts to be viable. To pretend otherwise is entirely disingenuous. Acts that don't play Autumn/Winter/Spring gigs in Dublin (or do Trinity/Iveagh in the Summer) would be attracted by this size. See also the likes of Khruangbin or The Smile playing half the 3Arena. And those bands that play 3 nights at Vicar St or the Olympia. A new venue can also be multi-purpose, used for conferences, talks, club nights etc as is the case with Brixton Academy.
In terms of Galway you also mention a 1,000 capacity when I specifically said 2k/3k. The smaller number is already catered for by the Black Box (800) and Leisureland (1,200). The latter venue only needs 20 gigs a year to keep going so why the figure of 100 gigs a year. The Black Box survives on 10/15 gigs a year plus two annual theatre productions.
For the 2k venue that I posited the Saw Doctors alone could do 10 nights a year. The 17/18 artists that sold out 3.5k to 5k tickets this Summer in Galway could easily sell 2k tickets in other seasons. Jimmy Carr, Frankie Boyle, Dylan Moran, Jim Jeffries and others that regularly sell out LL can do a bigger venue. If we provide the venues in Ireland we'll get the acts. Many bands would be happier to do 4/5 Irish dates than just Dublin alone or Dublin and Belfast. It's again disingenuous to state that acts wouldn't play lower capacity gigs around the country when they regularly do. The capital gets the biggest gigs due to numbers as is the same with the UK. Artists playing Brixton Academy (5k) in London will play 1-2k venues throughout England on the same tour. Galway also caters for music fans from not only the city but throughout the county plus Mayo, Roscommon & Clare. People will also travel an hour away from Limerick and often Sligo.
You're also ignoring the Brexit effect where many acts prefer too play around Ireland rather than deal with the bureaucracy of dates in Belgium, Netherlands, etc. That has led to the likes of Paul Weller playing Galway in 2022 for the first time since The Jam did a set in 1977. See also Paul Heaton back after a long sojourn. Clannad did an 800 seated gig at Leisureland before ding 13k at the 3Arena. Heaton headed to the 3Arena after his set here. Those and other artists (Fontaines, Lankum, Waterboys, etc) sold out Leisureland rapidly and all could easily have done 2/2.5k in tickets. I'd assume the case could also be made for medium-sized venues in Belfast, Limerick and Cork. And please drop the requirement for 100 days of gigs. Not necessary with the Big Top in Limerick (though used throughout the year), Leisureland and other venues that are not in use for most of the year. These venues would work. The bigger question is how they would affect the existing venues and would we endanger auditoria that we would rather retain.
