More of a Murica thing in general I think. Anything that's anti-Arab, pro-Israel is fair game even if it's as tasteless as enjoying seeing people being mutilated.

New study finds that about 10,000 daily active accounts on Twitter/X use AI-generated profiles that spread spam & scams and even amplify coordinated messages. ~~ Threads source of link.

I was helpful earlier in getting a bogus imposter politicians account suspended, within an hour of it been reported by myself and others. See how they misspelled the account name. Account was shadowbanned before hand so hard to find the actual account.

Musk going back on his word and backing down in Brazil, and cooperating with the laws there!

Elon Musk’s X Backs Down in Brazil
In an abrupt reversal, the social network’s lawyers said it was complying with court orders that it had previously defied. Brazil’s Supreme Court could allow the site to return next week.

Musk in the (bad) news again...

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said on Friday it intends to seek sanctions against Elon Musk after he failed to appear for court-ordered testimony for the regulator's probe into his $44 billion takeover of Twitter.

I looked at a Barack Obama tweet just now. He was speaking at a Kamala rally. This is who twitter think are the most relevant replies. Every single one is pro-trump.

I’m so grateful for this town square, otherwise I wouldn’t gat hear the thoughts of Randy Quaid, Dinesh D’Felon and Marjorie Taylor Greene.

    https://futurism.com/the-byte/more-advertisers-to-leave-twitter

X/Twitter user numbers now down by almost a third over the last year in the UK, and by almost a fifth in the US.

    image.png

Source and was retweeted by Adrian Weckler

    image.png

Source and verified reply by musk on 'X'

Wondering does that mean, accounts we now block will be visible again in our feed?

Honestly no problem with this change tbh if it only allows blocked users from seeing the posts and not actually interacting replying etc. They can already see them if they simply go to the profile page or search via incognito or while logged out etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,614 ✭✭✭corkie

@VinLieger Are you happy to see post from @consciousphilos in your feed, if you had chosen to block the account?

No id like them to still be blocked but dont mind them seeing my own posts without being able to interact with them as thats how i understood it would work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,657 ✭✭✭✭Quantum Erasure

That's not how it works, if you block someone you can't see their tweets but they will be able to see yours. Like the ignore feature on boards

I presume not, you'll be able to see but not interact with someone who's blocked you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,743 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Is Musk only doing this because he has copped how many people have blocked his racist drivel?

Google and Apple app stores require a block function, not sure how this plays out, space Karen is just p1ssed that everyone is blocking him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,781 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

    Let's say you blocked me.

I write "Quantum Erasure eats their own toenails". This gets brought to your attention.

You can now see that I'm saying made up stuff about you.

A: you can't respond as you blocked me

    Or

B: You can respond, but I can't see it as you've blocked me.

Sounds like another well thought out plan for the Charlatan.

I cant believe this joke managed to pay off so well this many years later, wish id bought into it back then.

Twitter is fucked..I stopped using it once they blocked api access and I couldn't get over how bad the official app was compared to echofon. I just gave up eventually and deleted my account. My missus is a hardcore x user which she used a lot and even she's finally stopped using it. She complains its just a cesspit and full of utter dickheads and fake news so she's basically dropped off it as well.

Unless someone else takes it over twitter will be dead completely in another year or two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,657 ✭✭✭✭Quantum Erasure

You've got it backwards, the person who blocks has the power

If I block you I can't see your posts, unless I seek them out, or someone say quote tweets it and i choose to click on it and click 'view'.

Then I can reply, and you'll be able to see it. That's the way it always was and won't change.

If that's the way it always was and won't change, what's Musk on about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,657 ✭✭✭✭Quantum Erasure

Previously if I had blocked you, YOU wouldn't be able to see MY posts (unless you logged out/ used a different account). Going forward, you'll be able to see them but not reply/ like/ share

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,625 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

Exactly its not that big of a change considering you could previously just go in via incognito browser or simply logged out with the profile or tweet URL to see what someone you were blocked by was saying.

HOWEVER if it turns out they can interact with the tweets in any way, like quote tweeting etc, then i'm against it

    https://apnews.com/article/x-elon-musk-transparency-report-01ecfaaca4701a7c399efbf1401ef76d

The report, which details content moderation practices, shows the company has removed millions of posts and accounts from the site in the first half of the year.

X, formerly Twitter, suspended nearly 5.3 million accounts in that time, compared with the 1.6 million accounts the company reported suspending in the first half of 2022.

When Musk was trying to buy Twitter in 2022, he said he was doing so because it wasn’t living up to its potential as a “platform for free speech.” Since acquiring the company that October, Musk has fired much of its staff and made other changes, leading to a steady exodus of celebrities, public figures, organizations and ordinary people from the platform.

So more moderation than previous owners? AP post so doing the rounds on media sites.

    Another from AFP: -

The EU vs X: How big could the fines be for Musk?

In other words, the EU could hold Musk himself liable and the six percent could be levied against all the companies he controls — not just X. That would potentially increase the penalty around thirty-fold, up from $200 million if only X's revenues are targeted to over $6 billion for each of the separate charges.

    https://themalaysianreserve.com/2024/09/25/the-eu-vs-x-how-big-could-the-fines-be-for-musk/

On the changes to 'Block Function' I could possibly see account user's protecting tweets, so stalkers can't get at them to screenshot and repost.

Handy feature if you do the above:-

So Musk suspends the journalist for the JD Vance dossier leak… you can be sure if it was a leak of dirt on Harris he'd be tweeting it himself.

    Something something free speech eh.

@odyssey06 Last nights news and a reason was given. You can find a link to dossier on threads? If anyone wants to see it I can track it down again.

Even meta is removing links to dossier. Not going to share a link (cause of doxing in it)

Mark Zuckerberg and Elon musk don't want you to Google "ken klippenstein jd vance dossier", which means you should definitely check it out.

However, some experts see the report as little more than a shallow promotional exercise designed to assuage advertisers’ concerns.

Some better reporting on the transparency report. As the saying goes, the devil is in the details.

"With these changes in mind, it’s somewhat unsurprising that among the most drastic shifts seen in the new report are found in the platform’s handling of hateful content. Under Twitter’s previous management, action was taken against 1m accounts for posting hateful material in the second half of 2021. But in this latest report, X says that just 2,361 accounts were addressed for hateful content in the first half of 2024.

“I found this report to be surprising in how transparent it [is] on the sheer volume of malicious content being posted to X and shocking at just how little is being done by the platform to remove and prevent such content,” says Mike Allton, a social media marketing expert and head of strategic partnerships at social media management platform Agorapulse. “The numbers speak for themselves … Over 81m posts that were abusive or harassing, [yet] only fractions of those were actually suspended or removed. Only 3% of abusive posts were removed.”

"A closer look at the report reveals that most of the 224m global user reports concerned abuse and harassment (36.5%), hateful conduct (29.9%) and violent content (17.9%). Over 100m posts were reported for being hateful or violent. Disturbingly, more than 8.9m reported posts concerned child safety, but only 14,571 of these posts – 0.16% – were removed."

Where is that policy written down?

In January, Musk temporarily banned Klippenstein, who worked for The Intercept at the time, and a handful of other journalists. The only connection between them: their left-wing politics and their criticism of Musk

So nope, not yesterday's news. Part of a pattern of Musk pretending to be in favour of free speech but abusing his position to favour one side over another.
