Got email from Sky https://www.sky.com/shop/pre-reg/mobile
Only problem is, it doesnt recognise Irish mobile phone numbers :-)
It took from Thursday evening until Wednesday to get delivered to me. Ordered in-store.
Does it work for Apple → Apple messages, just not SMS? Is there any way to reset the app to factory and just set it up as if it were the first time on an iPhone?
SMS works. iMessage (Apple → Apple) does not work. The iMessage / FaceTime / iCloud service will simply not activate.
It does not send the text to the UK phone number to activate iMessage, that is the issue.
Just my 2 cents but iMessage and FaceTime has enabled in the first couple seconds for me when I used my sky sim for the first time. It worked the same with my family and kids too. Maybe it’s an issue with your iPhone or your specific account? I feel like it may have something to do with your spend cap, or a bar on international sms
iMessage (apple to apple) works for me. I didn't have to reactivate though - I guess cause I ported my number in. Tried logging in to myGov as well and received the text. I don't receive authentication texts for much else that I can think of.
Did you use eSIM or physical SIM? I automatically lost my iMessage activation once I removed my SIM card and put in the new one, because the old number was still on the SIM card until the port went through, then it updated, and then iMessage refused to activate on my number.
Defo not an issue with my iPhone, my brand new Three eSIM activated iMessage just fine. I have tried disabling or enabling the spend cap to no avail.
my SiM arrived yesterday , took week to arrive. I’m going to stick to my current PaYG plan still lots of issues I see on here
it's a new network. For the majority it's working fine and as intended. There will of course be a handful of people with some issues, it's just teething problems as it's A new network. Some have already been resolved.
Take it with a pinch of salt but I went in store today and the "team leader" said that iPhones are coming in the next few weeks, not December like the website says
Yeah I will hold my breath.
I have a physical sim. Although I activated it in a spare phone and only moved it to my main phone after I ported in my number.
I have noticed today that I am getting a lot more UK ads while on chrome.
Hi guys did anyone receive their new number from Sky Mobile, what prefix is it using Vodafone 087 ?
089
That's a pity, the other VMO on Vodafone is an post Mobile and they give an 087 number. A lot of people don't trust 089 numbers.
I just completed porting over from a Vodafone PAYG Registered account with no issues.
iMessage & Facetime activation worked straightaway and so far so good with 2FA messages.
does anyone know if you have to sign for the sky SIM cards or do they just leave them in the post box?
Mine was just put through the letter box, nothing to say that I had to be signed for.
Yeah standard An Post postage. The "envelope" is tiny too!
Speedtest today when I was out n about...
5 days waiting now for my SIM. How long is everyone else’s taking?
Same.
Ordered Sun.
Voicemail left Wed asking me to ring. No problem and it was awaiting dispatch.
Not arrived yet.
Doesn't bother me if it's late as I'll avoid activating for 20 days until mid Oct
I was going on the next day delivery and I moved house so I had to cancel my sim and order again on Friday so I’ll likely be waiting even longer. Absolutely nightmare
What do u mean "people do not trust 089 numbers"?
And how many people do not "trust" 089 numbers?
👀
There's definitely a snobbery of mobile prefixes out there, especially when dealing with businesses. 086 and 087 are considered trustworthy, while 083 and 089 are often seen as for burner phones. Not sure about 085 nowadays but I remember when it used to be looked down upon as being a kids network in the Meteor days.
There is definitely some truth to this. The company I work for uses Three for the company mobiles. But any new numbers we get from Three are 086 not 083. I suspect it is for this very reason.
Oh ya, if my phone rings and it's a number I don't recognise I likely won't answer it. But if it's an 089 number I definitely won't answer it.
Three business gives out 086.
Nearly all the younger users are getting 089 numbers nowadays.
AFAIK, it's the only way to get a new 086 number.
