where do all these stand ins disappear to when the stars decide to come back?
A lot of ‘never heard before’ newsreaders on the air.
Don't be expecting RTE staff to work a 5 day week. And it's a Friday 😞
there has been a right ragbag of stand-ins over the summer on both tv and radio.
It was funny seeing a rather bemused David McCullough been handed back to studio by some lad who just finished his media studies course.
Great to see they gave a new young upcoming talent a chance on Late Date last night 🤔 Shame that he crashed the pips and news at midnight but hey it was first day nerves…..
Who was that Losty
https://www.rte.ie/radio/radio1/clips/11658759/
He must have been the same lad doing the What it Says in the Papers segment on Morning Ireland this morning, very nervous, settled down eventually
Was that the dude with the Cork accent.
Blackrock Road Bobby, not a muck savage from Wesht Cark.
The kind of gimp who pronounces ‘very’ as ‘vurry’.
RTE Radio 1 news bulletin reporting that the Ba'athist with The Grateful Dead has died, will there be three days of mourning in Iraq ?
Its that time again……Goggins of Monkstown should be in full flow over the weekend.
Will Joe Jackson make a return… will The Carman make an appearance on Stephens day.
who will be most unheard of dude to show up while the talent rest up.
Will the tape recorders and the 'repeat machines' be in full flow up to mid January?
Will the owl eared denizens of this venerable thread unearth any future top earners from the back benches.
How is Derek getting on…. is he still on the big bucks ….. what is he doing now? ho ho hhho ho
Not a bad lad in fairness…..Meeeriam 250k for doing what?
I hear John ‘I’ll put the words into your mouth”’Cooke is on Drivetime today.
Looks like the Guffaw King and McInerney gone to ground early.
And they are off…
All the big hitters will be getting their fortnight off.
Yes N …Lookit we all know nothing happens that is news worthy over the ‘Holiday Period’
All the recordings have been done …. Even a cyclone in the Phillippines of epic destruction couldn’t wake them up.
Big run on the Hot Toddy’s over in Goggins I’m reliably told..
They have Michael Cahill on covering for Louise Duffy. Does he have a fully time job elsewhere, when not doing his normal few hours each Sunday on Gold?
Louise Duffy checking out for the last couple of days, Michael Cahill getting the call up. And a newish lad, Aaron McElroy, with a rare outing on the news on Drivetime. He's a multi-media journalist from Monaghan.
Tommy Mescal will no doubt get to anchor the 9 o clock news over Xmas.
Tommy was appointed London correspondent during the summer but was back for the election campaign. His predecessor in London, John Kilraine, seems to have disappeared
Aaron McElroy has been with RTE since the summer. He apparently worked with Northern Sound for a number of years also.
Louise Duffy struke down with flu
John Kilraine now part of the Nationwide team
Time to dust off the auld bingo card:
End of year news quiz
End of year sports quiz
Brenda Donoghue's heart wrenching stories from petrol stations
Neil Doherty laughing at himself every day between Stephens day and new years, featuring ABBA and Elton John
"Shur 'twas better"
"The county measure"
PBH
Rte concert orchestra play the songs of Queen, or Fleetwood mac or whatever
"Mise Freisin"
Repeats of Caravan radio, where the presenter references it being summer time, many times.
Repeats of "Doc on One" from only a few weeks ago.
Marty Morrisey.
....think that should cover everything.
Whatever way RTE is run over the next few weeks should be the way its run all year round....same presenters, shows , run time etc....
Huge simple savings to be made...
Brenda is lunchtime Christmas Eve anyway.
Marty Morrisey was already on listening the years gaa/sporting highlights.
I know that many of the Christmas filler shows aren't great but.... do you really want/expect shows like Liveline or Today with Claire Byrne to be back to business as usual on December 27th ?
Not at all...everyone deserves a break IMO, the thing is they have been re-hashing this same tired format during those days for far too long
you forgot the programme Joe duffy does with guests over 2 days, discussing those who died in the year past.
I like him. Refreshing to hear someone with an authentic "regional" accent, sounds like a normal lad. Good luck to him.
If you're stuck for something to listen to over the Christmas I heartily recommend Brendan O'Connor's show today.
Noirin niRian to the 2 Johnnie's
Mario's Gift Grub to real grub recipes
A tour de force from the Corkman.
