Following on from main thread in Current Affairs about Tubs in general (now closed and mod suggestion that Entertainment category is more suitable).
Indeed, entertainment in certain respects is what Tubs has provided, albeit perhaps in a way not intended. And still awaiting 150k payback to the licence fee holder.
And of course, his new career in Virgin Radio which is imminent.

There's a creative writing forum here on Boards that might be of some use.
https://www.boards.ie/categories/creative-writing
The most important thing for any aspiring novelist or writer is to read. Though some people here have knocked Dan Brown as a writer, examine how his books are put together. They may be formulaic but the formula works for his market. He also taught creative writing before becoming a full-time writer.
Tubridy really isn't a good example as his books, the ones aimed at an adult market, were capitalising on his fame as it was back then. His JFK book relied heavily on archive photos. That kind of book might be financially beyond a budding writer.
For writing tools, Scrivener is one of the best as it allows a writer to concentrate outlines, plots, text and research in the one program. It is much better than Microsoft Word.
https://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener/overview
Tubridy's efforts were heavily dependent on his fame. Most writers won't have that advantage or the connections.

He basically changes the character names!
My contributions on boards are infamous :)
I think it's fairer to say that his output benefitted from the tv license funded publicity department.
The main market seemed to be Christmas stocking filler for the grandparents.
It is a bit more than that and some of the characters are reused. :) Tubridy's books weren't fiction though.
That's how it works. Tubridy's brand recognition would have got his books reviewed. A less famous author would not be so lucky unless they had a good agent. For a publisher, a book by someone famous, as Tubridy was, is easier to promote than one by an unknown author. There's also a pre-existing fanbase who will buy their book.
Looking forward to it Bobson.
Perfect Xmas pressie for 2025 perhaps?
You wouldn't know judging by your content on here but thanks for the update.
Aren't you well over your "pop in once a fortnight" visits here? Be careful or the negativity might rub off on you!
Is a rare jmcc book from ~30 years ago a collectors item these days?
Forget about all them, get stuck into it.
I'm intrigued.
I'd buy bobsons book. I'd say it's the Irish RM crossed with GG Allin , the perfect book
If its about Bryan moving to london you could call it "great expectations". The prequel could be called hmmm….. "To catch a thief"
thats a bit long for a book title. Try again
Response to rightmove:
If it's about Bryan moving to london you could call it "great expectations".
Or maybe even another adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula? 😧
Sorry folks, it's coming up to that time of year, couldn't help it 😉
All the greatest hits being recycled today….waiting for the old classic #bekind to resurface
Vogue standing in for Bryan today? She actually sounded like an upgrade - coherent, not manic at all. Zero virtue signalling, name dropping or humble-bragging for the short while I was listening. Virgin could probably do themselves a favour by offering her the slot permanently. Would she take it, though?
She also seems to be in the right age demographic for the station while Tubridy isn't.
His JFK book is in my Dad's place. I had a look once. It's quite thick and looks very impressive on a book shelf, a bit like Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
The contents is a bit more like Wayne Rooney: My Story
The former Late Late Show host was asked to speak on his invaluable insights on achieving success ‘without compromising well-being.’ Posing in the venue, Ryan also wrote; ‘This conference was brought to you by the words ‘resilience’ and ‘can I have a selfie, it’s for my mam’.’

Wasn't surprised recently, when we were ranked as one of the most corrupt countries in Europe. Tubridy caught lying and cheating, and is still being used as a role model by Irish people.
every bit of research done shows Ireland to be one of the least corrupt countries on Earth.
It'll be a nothingburger story
Not surprised about Tubridy's book. It apparently had a lot of photos so that would have added to the printing costs even though it was only a 320 page book. It seems like Tubridy wanted to be considered an intellectual rather than just Gerry Ryan's tea boy. However, Gerry Ryan, as a broadcaster, was much better than Tubridy. Without the family connections, Tubridy might have ended up as a school teacher.
In RTE's latest financial report seems to be another post-Tubridy era document that features the LLS Toy Show and its achievements:
https://about.rte.ie/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/RTE-Annual-Report-2023-English-Final.pdf
It is almost if RTE doesn't want him back. The cover has a picture of Patrick Kielty and Sinead O'Connor. Page 260 has his 2022 and 2023 earnings.
I thought you only drop in once a fortnight to goad doomscrollers.
Sometimes I feel like we're your only outlet.
About once a fortnight?
If you witnessed someone having a heartattack in the street you'd try to make their resuscitation about you.
You're bringing "main player syndrome" to this thread.
so he’s an motivational speaker now? Dubai seems a bit far for a corporate gig to Irish expats. There are plenty of them in London but maybe that’s too close to home?
I know a couple of people who were paid big money to fly out to Dubal, do a gig (one was Irish Dancing the other play in their band) and fly back the following day. Big money, with all expenses paid for a hours work.
If I was asked to come up with a name for someone who fulfilled the brief of being a good public speaker, as well as being able to talk authentically in relation to resilience, I would not think of Tubridy. Not for a minute. And that caption reeks of arrogance, imo.
Bouncing back?
Virgin Radio related… Vogue Williams has landed a slot as one of the presenters on Richard Osman's House of Games on BBC2.

No-one will ever better the tales of Trent on Boards.ie. Unfortunately, the search functionality is not able to find this literary masterpiece.
In fairness, this is one of the two threads that always seems to be on the front page whenever I look in, so it's hard not to drop in. The other, which just shows how how bad the site has become, is about the etiquette of **** on a building site portaloo. I really hope it has evolved since the first post but I didn't want to continue past it.
