Would love to see him run, the absolute car crash of him taking part in debates with other candidates would be great viewing. Unfortunately he'd never get the nominations needed to run.
Was looking forward to seeing him step back in the cage and getting a beating but looks like that's not going to happen either
He might wear the poppy again, will help him get some of the FG lads onside for the nomination
Trump benefitted by a partisan system. Any GOP candidate automatic picks in 40% support. That would not apply to McGregor. And even if he did have 50% support. The side of the population that support him are not exactly known for actively voting
when one goes to war they all go to war Mellor
I wasn't comparing numbers, I was talking about the love vs hate similarity.
But it was in reply to my post, about numbers are how many people will vote for him. As I said, he'll get a few scrote votes, but as Mellor pointed out it's not as if he's part of a party that has a large chunk of built-in votes. American politics is a bad comparison because there are so many people who will vote blue or red no matter who the leaders of the respective parties are. He'll get votes from the Coolock Says No crowd and a few session heads whose cocaine expenditure is only matched by their 2005 Louis Copeland bills and money spent on trips to Vegas.
But the rest of the country can't stand the guy. And certainly would not see him fit to be President.
I don't doubt they would turn up for a guerrilla riot if asked. But I'm questioning if being registered to vote is part of the wartime manifesto.
…underestimating how many people would vote for him…
I'm talking about the how many people part. Whatever number would support him, a significant number wouldn't be the voting sort.
I'm not comparing politics at all. I'm comparing individuals who are loved by many and despised by many.
I'd prefer if nobody voted for him, he might learn you need to respect others.
What I'm saying is his name is known in every household in Ireland and the vast majority don't follow MMA and a lot of those people would think he's the best that there ever was in the UFC. These people know nothing about him only that he's Irish and famous. It's entirely possible he'd get a decent amount of votes from people like that.
I never said you were comparing politics. But you said you were not comparing numbers, which you indeed were because you replied to a post about the NUMBER of people who would vote for him. If you weren't talking numbers then your reply is completely irrelevant.
He's no stable genius
Now you're talking numbers.
If you asked me to guess how many votes he will get from the people you suggest above, those basing their vote on the fact that they've heard of him and think he's really good at fighting people…………. i'd imagine not many. And certianly not enough to win a presidential election.
He'll need close to 1 million votes i'd imagine. His alleged fondness for a certain substance must be much worse than we think if he genuinely believes he can get 1m Irish people to vote for him.
I said I wouldn't expect him to get enough votes to win or anywhere close.
Things get so pedantic in here that it appears you have to spell out everything in great detail these days, not just in the MMA forum but everywhere on the site.
So I'll try and make clear what I'm saying.
His support would come from those who know he's famous but know nothing about MMA other than he was a champion.
That doesn't mean all those people would vote for him, I'm saying that any votes he would get would come from those people. Many of these people will be staunch political party voters, others will vote for who they know best.
I think it'd be more than a lot of people expect but I wouldn't expect him to make 250k. I do think he'd beat 100k easily though.
He has to get on the ticket though and I can't see how that happens. Where he comes from might support him and maybe he could work a way to get one in Kildare where he now lives but I don't see that happening, there's no way he'd get a third nevermind a fourth to back him and no chance he gets enough TDs.
He isn't running for president lads. It's a piss take.
If your first post you said "…you are underestimating how many people would vote for him I think".
We are saying you are overestimating how many would vote for him. 100k is a lot of votes.
As @monty_python said its obvious not real
The pretty much unknown independent anti-abortion candidate Joan Freeman got 87k votes. I think McGregor would get a lot more votes than her.
That was in 2018 right? The same year that ~750k people voted against repealing the 8th amendment. Hardly surprising that she picked up 10% of the No voters.
What are opinion polls on immigration and the like looking like? he'd fairly easily hoover up some of those votes
That's not the only thing Conor's Hoovering up!
But not enough. Despite these lads being the most loud and obnoxious, the recent local & European elections made it pretty clear that Ireland doesn't back the righty types at the ballot box who base their policies off rumours on Facebook about Polish people eating swans in Sligo.
Whole not voting for anyone far right is a good thing it still showed how stupid the electorate has become.
So Chandler vs Olivera now in November. McGregor in no mans land.
McGregor is absolutely done and has been for a while, can’t take anything away from what he achieved and is probably under appreciated for how good he was in his prime but he just isn’t at that level anymore, you just can’t turn it on and off, thank god Chandler moved on, it was getting embarrassing for him
mcgregors ego believes he can turn it back
Its the ESPN deal holding it up, once it's renewed or a contract with a new broadcaster agreed a fight will be booked. It's a huge carrot in the negotiation knowing that rubes everywhere will pay for that fight
I think he was overrated myself. He was excellent at cutting weight to fight against smaller men but his record after that is very poor.
Overrated because he was able to cut weight and beat lads at the weight he had no problem cutting to….. so kinda like 90% of the roster How do you rate Holloway?
Nah, he's not overrated but he's nowhere near the conversation for the greatest fighter but nobody comes close to him for what he's done to elevate the sport to where it is today.
I don't think anybody would have him anywhere near a conversation on the greatest ever. He is a double weight world champion though and there's less than ten of those.

On a recorded bender last night, my word.
