Farm to farm movements can be done using the AIM sheep app
Thanks. Handy app. Sorted
Does anyone on here have any experience or opinions on galway sheep?
blunt needle could be the issue. Check point is sharp
How long would you need to leave weaned ewes and their lambs separate before re introducing them without the lambs trying to suck the ewe etc….
I have ewes weaned about 6 weeks and I want to put my replacement ewes back along with the main group of ewes for ease of management for a few weeks would anyone see an issue doing that
hi what would the rent be normally on winter grazing have some fresh reseeding done and wondering what a fair rate would be from Oct -feb. Was debating buying some store lambs for it but this may be handier as I never had sheep before. There is some rape in with the grass
Id say go ahead there will be issues. Ive done it before after a month with no problem
just wondering is it okay to dip ewes straight away after injecting them with hepavac p thanks in advance
for ewes on well fenced land anything from €3.50 a month up
Where are you based?. Someone on here might be interested in "collaborating"
@wrangler just looking for a little guidance on what to dose with.
The combined worm count is only 400 so you could wait a fortnight to dose for worms. A yellow dose seems to be the surest but it's farm specific as regards wormer resistance so the yellow dose might not work for your farm. I'd advise a yellow dose and test again in a week after dosing. At least you'll know whether it's working on your farm.
Regarding the coccidia, it shouldn't be affecting the lambs but if they have symptoms , baycox is the best and vecoxin has a short withdrawal if lambs are near slaughter weight
Thanks wrangler. Will go with that advice
I thought the advise was to ignore strongyloids as they don’t effect thrive generally unless in massive numbers?
Like tapeworm, we'd dose here for parasites, I can't believe any parasite is harmless.
Opinions differ though, we started dosing for coccidia three years ago and it has made a difference to the thrive of our young lambs even though the advice is not to unless they show symptoms because there are seven species of coccidia in sheep and only one is pathogenic or causes disease
i would be in agreement, but know 2 vets that advise to totally ignore strongyloids under 1000 epg
I bought some 2 year old ewes at the mart 10 days ago. One of them has mastitis now. I'm going to the factory tomorrow evening with other culls. Is there any reason I can't bring her? Does she need to be on my holding for a minimum number of days?
Dont think so, only if you a quality assured and want the QA price they have to be a certain number of days on your farm
Ram effect question, how far do the rams have to be kept away from ewes, I have a field 800m away from ewes, surely that's far enough.
Thanks Jonny. Can you put cull ewes and spring lambs on the same dispatch document for the factory?
Yes you can all in the one docket
Saw sheep schools video today. His lambs had a count of 3950 strongholds 😬
Another "ram effect" question. I still have ram lambs running in the flock. They'll be gone Saturday at the latest, 21st September.
If I want to turn the rams into the ewes on November 5th have I left it too late? Or is my turn out date too late to have any benefit from the ram effect?
I don't have a teaser ram but could buy one.
He dosed after too…… with zolvix
We constantly have farmers we test for being advised by vets to use white doses.
We're lucky to have a vet that's interested in sheep, he invited us to a lunch meeting lately where he had industry and farmers and despite the expertise there in the discussion they couldn't tell us how to deal with triple resistance
I reckon triple resistance is only around the corner for a lot of sheep farmers , hopefully another class of wormer comes to the market soon , otherwise zolvix will be over used too.
how much are 4th crop ewes making ? Selling a few here to a neighbour.
All llynn x ewes perfect for breeding again .
Do you do a worm count and only dose if needed
Sheep Expo 9th October.

Anyone know how you go about testing or trying to get a ram qualified as SIS Approved as will be selling mine after this year's breeding season and see there's a premium when selling SIS Approved rams versus non approved rams ?
Was a plain to see the difference at the Texel sale in Athenry last Friday night.
Anyone ?
