Got email from Sky https://www.sky.com/shop/pre-reg/mobile
Only problem is, it doesnt recognise Irish mobile phone numbers :-)
I was told it was unlimited in Europe as well with no fair usage policies
Not bad for 4G. Only 2 bars in my location. Not sure if 5G is supported on my Pixel 9 Pro Fold just yet.
This will probably be the same for all Pixels on Sky - Google have to whitelist any networks to enable 5G. Its the same situation with 48 unfortunately where we're waiting months for it but nothing yet
Wow. That's a serious plus
Min 12 months I assume means it'll go month per month after that, esp as it's for life. Anyone seen any T&C about the for life part?
Anyone know what the pricing is for data and call roaming in the US?
The link for roaming info in the FAQ brings up a page not found error.
https://www.sky.com/skymobileroaming
Did they remove the eSIM option? I’m at the final step choosing to pay with my regular direct debit and didn’t see an option for eSIM yet. Don’t want to hit submit if it’s been removed.
it's all linked in the tariff guide. https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-mobile-tariff-guide-roi
Call to get the esim option.
Thanks, yes data isn't great at €30 per GB, Vodafone do a Red Roaming extra for €3 a day that gives 500MB allowance which is normally enough for me. Perhaps addons will be available.
I gave them a buzz to enquire and you’re absolutely correct, eSIM is available. He was certain porting has to be done at time of ordering and cannot be done later.
Said I’d think about it because of the porting. I’d wanna be sure it’s decent before I give up my €8 48 plan.
Then the sales spiel about half price Sky Sports and Sports Extra started. Typical Sky. I’m actually surprised signing up to the mobile doesn’t recontract you for the TV.
That’s the thing with me, I’m on an old Vodafone plan that lets me use my whole allowance in the US and it was one of the reasons why I stayed with them. But it’s probably not worth it for the other 50 weeks of the year that I don’t need it.
Page 2 of the tariff guide, Roam 1 (EU / UK) shows a charge for calling and texting any EU country (except Ireland), AFAIK those calls / SMS are meant to be included at no extra cost when roaming in EU (as long as allowance hasn't been exceeded).
Who doesn't buy travel esims nowadays? Even the likes of GoMoWorld are better value than the red roaming packages.
In my case, I only got an eSIM-capable phone at the start of the year and I didn’t want the hassle of local SIMs.
I'm also looking for the eSIM option, let me know if you figure it out!
Any data speed tests on 5G?
If you want eSIM you can get it by calling Sky! They don't offer it online yet.
@Sierra Oscar @Mimikyu
Just taken now on Sky 5G. Didn't think it would be that fast, impressive.
Isn't that illegal in the UK now ?
Any telco doing that is a symptom of pure greed and probably cutting costs elsewhere to maximise short term profit at the expense of the future prospects of the company.
Anyone know how long this offer lasts? Have some credit to use up first!
I don't see the point of them launching such a service unless it undercuts or betters what's on offer from the likes of GoMo or 48.
Does the wifi calling work with sky mobile?
❤️ my €7.99pm 48 plan
WiFi calling works on iPhone. Not currently working on my Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
That old €7.99 48 plan is great if you don't want access to 5G. I personally never would have kept it, because I like to have that access.
Yeah working for me on iPhone iOS 18.
Confirmed 5G working, Speedtest on par with Vodafone in same location. VoLTE (4G calling) and wifi calling working. Handoff from WiFi to 4G calling working.
Tethering (personal hotspot) working after manually setting the APN to mobile.sky
eSIM working fine, had to place the order by phone. Was up and running in 15 minutes.
SMS over WiFi calling not working, this doesn’t work on Vodafone either.
I'll be especially curious if Wi-Fi calling works while roaming, that would probably win me over.
@Cork981 Can you check the IMS status on your iPhone? Go to Settings > General > About and double-tap on the Network Provider name.
Yeah voice only when on WiFi calling but SMS and voice when on VoLTE.
Three had a similar issue up until recently.
Hopefully they expand the range of handsets, they had a Xaiomi tab on the website but that has been removed now!
It says on the website that iPhones are coming in December.
I’m having issues receiving service messages like activating iMessage and receiving SMS from Microsoft for phone number validation for 2FA.
