Got email from Sky https://www.sky.com/shop/pre-reg/mobile
Only problem is, it doesnt recognise Irish mobile phone numbers :-)
No international minutes like Eur or Vodafone. That is no minutes to the likes of the US,Oz,India,Brazil, anywhere when calling from Ireland
It's a fixed 15euro price promised for life if you sign up now for a limited time. No nasty price hikes every year.
Check if you can access all content on RTE Player & Virgin Media Player? Sky broadband customers are currently being geo-blocked from these services, because Sky treats them as being in UK! Also curious to know if WiFi Calling works when roaming? (Currently Eir & GoMo are the only providers that allow WiFi calling when roaming - saves a fortune outside of EU)
Reminds me of 48 who tried to reduce "their month"
I was thinking more the handset olans being open to the yearly in contact increases , after all Sky like to increase their tv plans yearly! And as others have said the 15e off is only a introductory offer! If they offered a discount to existing Sky customers I would seriously consider them as an option, one bill for tv and mobile would be appealing
If that was to happen with the handset plans they have to let you go without penalty because it's not mentioned in the contract.
Download and upload speeds from T&C's.
Holy s...e
That's standard across all networks, it looks bad when you read it.
They all quote relatively low download speeds so that you have a very difficult case in trying to get out of contract for non-performance. The figures Sky quote are exactly the same as Vodafone while
Eir… 5G = 50Mb/5Mb, 4G = 10Mb/1Mb, 3G = 1Mb/0.1Mb
Three… 5G = 25Mb/5Mb, 4G = 10Mb/2.8Mb, 3G = 2.5Mb/0.49Mb
clearmobile must be crapping themselves……..
Has anyones mobile numbers ported over yet? Submitted at 10 am and still nothing. Usually it takes around 30 minutes max when I'm porting a number.
u sure about that? i have sky broadband and never have any issue with the RTE player
Ha! I moved my primary number from GoMo to Sky. My number transferred around 13:20, I got an email from GoMo first, then a text from Sky saying the number is ready to use.
Mobile data still did not activate, so I called support. The agent's first response was that porting could take 2 days. I explained the temporary number's data didn't work either, and my port is now complete with calls and texts but no data. In the phone settings, I could see it said the phone number of the SIM was unknown, which led me to believe it might not be properly provisioned.
I spent a lot of time on hold while they discussed in the background. They also cancelled an order I placed for a second (physical) SIM line without asking, I was notified of this by email and not by the agent.
After about 30 mins on the phone, they finally said eSIM was not supposed to be offered yet, so the reps offering it today should not be. She said they will need to work on a resolution and in 24 to 48 hours someone will reach out to me.
There's a few posts and threads on it. Most likely isn't affecting everyone.
Sky use big proxy-pots for lack of what they actually call it.
I had it before, i dont think its something they want to fix. 9 times out of 10 you'll be in the proper pot, i wouldn't mind it.
Maybe its just me never wanting to watch rte or something tho.
I kept a temporary nunber with e-sim and data is working for me with that. I had to set my APN to mobile.sky
5G is working on iPhone iOS 18 RC along with VoLTE and Wifi-calling.
check the APN settings on your phone, Mobile Data APN should be mobile.sky with no username or password
What is roaming like on Vodafone / will be like on Sky?
48 offer a crap allowance, if you can actually get the roaming network to work….i wonder would this be the same?
I tried this, but my phone won't save the APN. The only one there is called "internet" and I can't tap into it to view its settings.
EDIT: Actually, I was finally able to get it to save! Connecting to LTE now, no 5G even though the setting is on. Could be my location. No WiFi Calling options on my Pixel 9 Pro Fold either.
Is it possible to get a temporary new number and then port over later or do you have to choose to port when ordering?
This happens from time to time when a provider either purchases a block of IPv4 address space or moves a block if ip addresses from one geography to another.
Content providers like RTE / Netflix etc etc typically use third party services E.G. Maxmind to provide additional intelligence on the geo location of any particular IP addresses connecting to its service, however these third party databases can sometimes take a while to update the geo locations.
The process typically starts with the provider updating the RIPE database tagging it as Ireland, this then trickles down to the commercial geo location providers.
For what its worth, Currently watching Mr Robot on RTE player on Sky Mobile, works fine
That looks to be an option, in the My Sky app there is an option to port a number onto an existing SIM
I'm all set up now. It's working perfectly, have to say well done to Sky for getting it 99% perfect on launch day.
Some things that you all may find useful is that when activating your SIM card there is an option to set up a spend cap, which can be very handy if you don't want to rack up a bill. I set mine at 10 euro so I cannot rack up a bill of more than 10 euro weather it's for roaming, international calls or sms competitions. Another thing is that, on an iPhone anyway you can manually select to enable/disable VoLTE and connect to each of the 2G-5G networks so you have more control.
Also the APN settings don't seem to automatically fill (yet) so if you have no data make sure to pop in
mobile.sky
Hi
How do you get the option for esim? I'm trying to do it online and couldn't find the options.
Thanks
Had to manually call in and speak with an agent
Is there any advantage with sky over the Gomo 15 euro offer?
Yes. You get actual unlimited data in Ireland and all around Europe + UK. There's options for a spend cap so you can set an amount to stop your bill at. A mobile app which is very neat and full of options. A reward loyalty system where you can get free stuff in the MySky app, a voicemail feature that has more options than GoMo. A generally better coverage network (Vodafone) and faster 5G. Oh and the esim feature which some people may need/prefer. Haven't said that it is a brand new network so it's obvious some people may run into bugs while they're being ironed out.
Unlimited EU roaming? I find that hard to believe.
It is true. Check their website.
