Following on from main thread in Current Affairs about Tubs in general (now closed and mod suggestion that Entertainment category is more suitable).
Indeed, entertainment in certain respects is what Tubs has provided, albeit perhaps in a way not intended. And still awaiting 150k payback to the licence fee holder.
And of course, his new career in Virgin Radio which is imminent.

A bit of a strange photo that.
If you were at a book launch, you'd think you'd maybe post a photo actually at it, rather than what looks like a photo showing you on the way to it, and you're late and panicking.
He looks a bit hassled. Perhaps someone mentioned 150K. They may only have been talking about book sales.
Regards…jmcc
Does anyone really believe that if Tubridy was invited to a book launch with the likes of Stephen Fry and Helena Bonham-Carter, that he'd rush away from the event in a hurry? The man is obsessed with celebrity, so it's not likely that he'd only pay a flying visit. Sounds like a load of bunkum.
Maybe soneone asked him how he ended up in London?
I agree but I also think he would be well out of his comfort zone, meeting them in that scenario. It was a very different kettle of fish, meeting celebrities while sitting in the LLS studio, with his prepared cue cards.
He also wasn't the centre of attention and would have been largely unknown.
"I didn't stay long" + Hassled photo. In my mind it means he arrived very late. No selfies with himself and celebs. Is Tubbs not self confessed famous for hassling celebrities for photos?
I didn’t stay long- security threw me out! 😉
"Another book launch in London"
No finger pointing pics.
Looks like he's not happy to be attending, or is that a picture of him leaving!?
This is the book tour schedule for Precipice:

The reviews are quoted on the book's page on the Penguin website. There's a notable absence of the illustrious 'Bookshelf' podcast and its host.

I didn’t stay long but offered my best to Robert who was asking about the Irish media world vis-a-vis books, which I was happy to discuss before I headed back into the still-bright London Evening.
I doubt it was vis-a-vis public service broadcasting and the mismanagement of the national public service broadcaster.
Think that Dublin is listed on the book's tour. There will probably have been interviews set up with the Irish media. It is an interesting sory and maybe one of the interviews could be on the LLS. Book launches tend to be quite hectic and the conversation between Harris and Tubridy problably didn't last long.
The parallels with Fr Ted never fail to amaze me!
The pretend nerd and bookworm who owns many weighty tomes (bookmarked on page 5) but who really just craves proximity to celebrity in the hopes some might rub off on him.
Just looked it up and saw that he was actually in Dublin last Tuesday. If Tubridy was there, in London, it seems more likely that he was there as a punter, not an invited guest. The idea that Robert Harris asked him about the book scene in Ireland, is fanciful, at best. He's very familiar with Ireland. The whole thing seems a bit off.

"The parallels with Fr Ted never fail to amaze me!"
Do you mean Alan Partridge?
I am being ironic.
there is the episode of Fr Ted where he meets the authur of the romantic novels, he has Dostoevsky's novels out and she starts to talk about Dostoevsky.
BTW I recommend The Gambler by Dostoevsky, its a short novel and a funny read. And you can say "Well I enjoyed The Gambler I know it wasn't critically acclaimed as his other works but he really is able to satirize European upper classes of the day".
Probably closer to Partridge alright, but Tubs running around to book launches and getting caught out being completely in the dark about works of literature while professing to be a book nerd is basically the Polly Clarke episode of Ted!
Tubs looks like the epitome of an Angry Middle-Aged Man™ in that photo upthread. Nice “salmon” shirt too.
'Father Curley'… 😁
Won't be surprised if this is the only way back to Irish national airwaves for him as a rage jock on ShoutTalk.
Don't think he'd manage it as he'd still want to stick to cue cards.
Perhaps calling Tubs deranged is a bit strong. Deluded certainly, but that is a very accurate gif for how he comes across.
Apologies, I had completely forgotten about that episode of Fr Ted.
Probably why RT loves to read his books.
Perhaps the celebrities and reviewers got advance copies of the book and were familiar with it. Tubridy isn't really a UK celebrity and may not have been on the review copies list. The Times (London) had a mention of the book launch.
The only caveat with the Father Ted analogies is that at least Father Ted is likeable and somewhat relateable. Father Ted was bluffing to try to blend in in that episode while Tubridy is bluffing to everyone all the time.
Although he has a formula I did enjoy the one book in his Cicero series that I read. It's all very british though, he knows his audience.
Robert Harris' house
That might have been funnier in your head, dude.
you can tell it’s September and everyone is back at their desks
