As the title says, this is a new thread for chat about Dun Laoghaire in general without the traffic & transport nonsense.
Enjoy.
The owner was useless. Never invested a cent in the place. Staff kept that place going when it should have closed down years ago.
That's terrible news, and quite surprising too. I haven't been there for a while, but it always seems packed whenever I pass by
I was told by the people who work there. They are devastated
Where did you hear that? No word on their social media or website
The Lighthouse bar in Dun Laoghaire closing down for good next week, for anyone who would like one final drink in the place.
Thanks. Opportunities for Austria, Poland, Indnesia to claim territory by stealth too…😛
cuala flags. The colours have red and white. No specific flag
Anyone know the origin of red-and-white flags that have been at various junctons in the Deansgrange/Glenageary/Dalkey area for a while? I though it might be that Cuala GAA club, but their flags seem to be checkered, or red-white-red vertical sections with logo in middle (white bit)?, and these are single red on left, white on right
They are building a new installation as part of the Harbour masterplan, to accommodate up to 60 personnel and with administration, stores, workshops and leisure and dining facilities.
For the interim, the Lake Class ships have on board accommodation for 20 crew each.
what’s their plan for staff accommodation?
Is the print and go service available in the Lexicon on Sundays and do you need an up to date library card to access the Lexicon?
Seems like a logical move for the Navy, mid way down the Irish sea, and the writer class of ship are already regular visitors.

I was thinking it's why we can't have nice public amenities like other countries
The incident was in Cualanor. The dogs have already been destroyed.
Gathering area for the wanderers.Pidgeon sh1t,rubbish etc Or was the case
Can't argue with either of the above. I suspect we'll always have cases like this, as awful as they are.
Gardai won't do anything, and when you do get in touch with the dog warden they say they'll be over in a few days
it’s a certain type of people that keep bully’s. not only do they need a muzzle in public they need a short metal chain and no under 18s to walk thEm, but the type that keep them don’t really listen to rules.
There's a few people I see wandering Dun Laoghaire with these dangerous looking dogs (usually without a muzzle), very unfortunate, but when will people learn?

I was thinking about why it was relocated and it's possible that the apartment owners may have got fed up with the noise of bouncing basketballs so close to their windows/doors, especially on long summer evenings……if we ever had any !!!
Yep, and a picnic table now located where the basketball hoop used to be. My guess is that the apartments right behind the court complained and had it moved. This should probably have been foreseen. Hopefully they'll put a proper court nearby soon to correct the error.
Finally spotted this on the access road. So strange to take the hoop off the court and put it on an access road.
Anything west of the Irish Lights building is €4 per day
I see the Harbour one is 8 euro a day.
there’s a daily rate in the harbour car park under the open space beside the terminal
Am I allowed to ask about parking in Dun Laoghaire here? I was hoping to use the Carlisle pier for parking as dont want to be limited by time on meter. There was a 5 euro daily rate there but Google maps tells me it is closed. Is there a daily rate for the Pavilion car park?
OK I must have another look. Bizarre to separate the hoop from the court
Not another court as such, just a relocation of the hoop itself.
I looked out for it on the dart earlier, there's definitely at least a basketball hoop beside the track, facing North
They made a second basketball court on the other side of the pump track? Are you sure? I cycle through there a lot and I haven't seen it
